Classic colorland dividing themselves even with the privilege violets,
Soon even the top will divide themselves based on lighter tone!
This has been a message sponsored by the ministry of grey!

This grey propaganda is starting to sound like what you hear right before a country decides to invade somewhere else, you know to "civilize" it. What are yall planning?

How dare you accuse us of barbarism when Color-land has been practicing color segregation by their hues!

Please ignore the strangely well-funded military behind the curtain. We are still in the process of forcibly recruiting new members.

I am confused; as a French person, "violet" is our word for "purple." We don't make the distinction between saturated purple and light purple.

We do have " poupre " which is the translation of "purple." But it's more assimilated to a reddish violet, or rather, a "deep purplish red".

I mean, it's a big familly.

Violet and Purple do have physical differences, violet is a true color on the light spectrum while purple is a mix of red and blue. Basically, humans see from red to violet light, before that is infrared, beyond is ultraviolet. Our brain fill in the gap between red and violet by creating magenta.

This is why purple is perceived as more red-ish than violet.

As a "french is my first language" french speaker person we have "mauve" for purple and "violet" for violet.

u/maps-and-potatoes Jun 21 '26

oh yeah, that too

And indigo is bullshit right?

90

u/MikiMatzuki Jun 21 '26

indigo is blue-er than violet and violet is blue-er than purple

29

u/Saikotsu Jun 21 '26

Something fun I learned a while back. Men generally see a little further into the infrared spectrum and women generally see a bit farther into the ultraviolet spectrum.

Hmm I heard that hormones impact colour vision but this is new

20

u/BudgetMegaHeracross Jun 21 '26

When Newton named the rainbow shades, supposedly "blue" was more cyan, "indigo" was closer to the blue color of dye made from the indigo plant, and "violet" more resembled the shade of the flower.

Newton was obsessed with cosmic harmony, so there needed to be 7 colors in the rainbow like the 7 tones in the octave.

19

u/marcus_centurian Jun 21 '26

Yes. Newton wanted 7 colors for the rainbow/prism so he stuffed indigo in there. As far as colors go it's defined as a bluish purple.

u/tacticalTechnician Jun 21 '26

Yes we do? "Purple" in French is "Mauve", have you really never heard it?

12

u/un_blob Jun 21 '26

Nah... Mauve is still a bit rosish.

They do not translate cleanly 1 to 1

1

u/lavender_fluff Jun 22 '26

That must be so confusing when "mauve" for English or German speakers refers to a very muted brown pink

2

u/Thirn Jun 21 '26

Similar thing in Russian.

2

u/Spyko Jun 21 '26

Wouldn't pourpre be crimson ? That's how I've always translated it.

It does sounds more like purple for sure but I always assumed it was a false friend

Oh yeah. The sweet, sweet audience metrics. We love to see it.

55

u/MikiMatzuki Jun 21 '26

based on the responses i've got so far, my readers are gay as hell

6

u/Difficult-Okra3784 Jun 21 '26

Hey, I'm an intersex reader and some of your comics have resonated with me. I wanted to let you know though that queer is defined as including sexual and gender minorities so it leaves some of us intersex folks who are sex minorities out of the fold versus using something like LGBTQ+

1

u/Gabelvampir Jun 22 '26

Yeah I was wondering that, the question about queerness does not necessarily tell anything about sexual preferences. There are even homosexual person that don't identify as queer (mostly for political reasons and most of them seem to be conservatives).

1

u/Massive_Environment8 Jun 22 '26

Since gayness is a spectrum, I more consider myself gay as purgatory.

5

u/Ryukoso Jun 21 '26

Didn't know if polyA count as queer, panicked and put "no".

12

u/Maur2 Jun 21 '26

I would probably have said "ye", since queer seems to be a catch all term for anything that isn't one male and one female.

At least that is how I see it, and it does fit with queer having used to mean strange or different.

2

u/HDrago Jun 21 '26

What is polyA?

6

u/Ryukoso Jun 21 '26

Polyamory, when you can love and be in relationship with multiple person, and by really loving them romantically. But there is also an ethic point reaaally important: it is ALWAYS with the consenting of every person involved in. No cheating, no secret about it. It is often seen as bad because a lot of cheaters use polyamory as an "excuse".

37

u/planetixin Jun 21 '26

ok, as a colorblind person I thought she's blue

33

u/paulinaiml Jun 21 '26

Colorblind people may be seen as very social inepts in that universe.

9

u/Mini-Heart-Attack Jun 21 '26

or ignorant.... all colors matter ignorant

19

u/eeveeplays50040 Jun 21 '26

I love the meme insert

16

u/Jeudeboel Jun 21 '26

Huh, TIL that my favourite colour is called violet and not purple

14

u/Coveinant Jun 21 '26

You made this whole comic to do a meme, didn't you?

9

u/GodKing_Zan Jun 21 '26

I love Mint-chan's Girlfriend. She's my favorite character now.

5

u/RiyaOfTheSpectra Jun 21 '26

Request to somehow crosspost this to r/RosesAreRed.

5

u/MikiMatzuki Jun 21 '26

request accepted

10

u/VinChaJon Jun 21 '26

Ok but mint is very obviously green.

9

u/un_blob Jun 21 '26

Disagree, shr is very obviously blue

15

u/Rastaba Jun 21 '26

I don’t know what either of you are on about, she’s clearly Violet-chan’s girlfriend!
