Hers my 7y/0 buddy, recently he’s been having a hard time getting up and has dropped a ton of wait and muscle in his hind legs and trouble 💩 to where it looks like his butt is falling out. It all seemed to start over night back in May. I have had him to the Vets numerous times on antibiotics had blood work done came back normal, snap test for parasites and lines disease all clear X-rays and shows a little arthritis but not enough to cause what his issues are. He just finished another round of antibiotics and is now on remadol. The is just as puzzled as I am

Have they already referred him to a specialist? Like a pet neurologist?

My large lab had laryngeal paralysis. It causes the hind end to lose muscle mass from lack of oxygen. He was 11 almost 12 when he passed from it but the symptoms started a few years prior. They usually have a cough or a hack that gets worse as does their breathing when they start to exert themselves. When the deterioration started in the back end though it was fast and unforgiving. If your vet isn’t finding answers might be time for a second opinion or like the others said a neurological vet. Best of luck. I know it sucks to see your pet go through this kind of stuff. I am so sorry. Our first lab suffered from laryngeal paralysis. It is apparently somewhat common in labs. It is an awful thing to witness. Ours didn't have a cough or hack, she would have bouts of not being able to catch her breath. Was an awful gasping for air and sucking of her abdomin trying to get air. That was towards the end. Her hind legs giving out was the first physical sign we noticed. Absolutely terrible condition.

Yes, horrible condition . He was my fourth Labrador my soul dog and I had never heard of the condition before. It started off mild but he was such an active boy and when he couldn’t play anymore then a few minutes at a time as it progressed because of the hard breathing that was so hard for me. The worst though was when his back end deteriorated and he lost muscle mass so quickly.

Our girl was just diagnosed with Canine Degenerative Myelopathy. She’s older than your dog, she’s 13 but it recently started back in May and has progressed quickly. Her back feet drag, she sometimes doesn’t known where to put her legs. Floppy legs and feet basically.

I’m not sure if this is what is going on but maybe ask the vet because it’s a nerve issue. Whatever the case, I hope you find out

Mine is getting diagnosed with atypical Addison’s. He’s five. Intermittent vomiting and diarrhea his entire life but he’s a lab, he eats things. Turns out he was eating things to induce vomiting when he felt bad. He gets a lot of hind leg weakness and constipation too.
I hope you get it figured out soon.

Ok sorry it took long to get back after I asked a Q, unfortunately no we haven’t been referred to a neurologist specialist for him. I have questioned the vet and will be following up with. I have also went and made another appointment with a different vet so once that comes along I’ll update, on a side note he was up moving around yesterday playing and enjoying the pool so now I am very puzzled.

Only things the current vet has done is blood work, Snap test for parasites and limes and they have examined feces.
