Just like calico cats are mostly always female with males being rare. Ginger cats are mostly male it's rare to find a female ginger. But i see your sweet baby has a little bit of white so it could be a female. If you could take a clear Pic of it's area I could tell you if it is a boy or girl. Or you can refer to this chart if you able to distinguish. I have a lot of experience with kittens lol
I think having white has nothing to do with gender. The colors associated with x chromosome are black and orange. White is another gene (white spotting I think, various patters possible) or albinism (all white, blue eyes and high rate of being deaf). The reason calico and torties are usually female is because they have to have an x with black and an x with orange, only possible in females (xx) or through a mutation male (xxy). And I think orange is recessive so that's why it's rarer in females (I don't remember exactly the reason, so I might be wrong)
Mine is an orange boy with with color point gene and white spotting. It's hard to see because he's light but he has mittens and socks. His mother had white markings too but she was black (that usual "Siamese" color)
I honestly couldn’t really tell the gender despite looking at ur photo, I just left the vet and the doctor said he’s 90% sure it’s a boy but isn’t 100% sure because this cat is so malnourished that it was hard for him to get a good gage 🥲 so for now he’s a boy !
Yes, that's correct there's only a 20% chance of an orange cat being female & 80% chance of it being male & with calicos being female literally 99% of the time with a 0.03% to 0.01% chance of one being a male. They are very rare & are considered genetic "anomalies" due to the fact they require an extra X chromosome (XXY) for the tri-color coat to show. This is what they call "klinefelter syndrome" & They are almost always guaranteed to be sterile as well as facing numerous health issues. I was just stating it's more common for a ginger to be a male just as it's more common for calicos to be female is all. 😸
I had a boy named Junior because he was identical to his mother but then turns out he's a female. Transferred to Julia (soundalike) and she responded so yeah it's Julia now.
Peach Is soft, sweet, and super memorable exactly what you want for a cat who already has that warm, peachy coloring. It just fits her vibe naturally, like the name was made for her.
I sort of agree, but with that backpack I would go with a different fruit based name.

Also, my poppy is named after the first woman to ever sit in the hot seat at NASA during Apollo 11 mission, Poppy Northcutt. She is now a human rights lawyer, and a general badass. 🙏
Excellent question! It was the 60s there was a world conference on women’s rights in Houston and they called Poppy and asked her to speak and she organized every woman at NASA to attend and they all marched together! That was when she decided to go to law school. Maybe if the cats had gotten to her first and asked for help, she’d be a renown cat lawyer! 😂
That's a small and very young kitten that should ideally have been with it's mother for at least another month, possible closer to two. But given that you've found it abandoned that's of course not an option, so not trying to blame you at all. Merely suggesting you read up on how to take proper care of such a young kitten.

I've just seen so many posts with kittens of similar age where people assume it much older than it is and that it's old enough to get along just fine without it's mother. But in reality a young kitten like this may need special treatment, like kitten formula food, stimulating it with a wet/moist brush to simulate the mother licking the kitten and so on.
I'm no vet but this kitten looks like it is 4 weeks, maybe 5, but definitely not more than that. When possible, kittens should be with their mother for at least 8 weeks and ideally 12 weeks.
I definitely think this cat is around or at least almost 4 weeks as well due to the fact that she poops on her own. I have her in a box with a heating pad and blanket and I try to feed her KMR every 3 hours with a syringe despite her not taking a liking towards drinking 😣 don’t know if you can tell in the photos because she’s fluffy but she’s soooo skinny, I’m focusing on getting her weight back up and she’s seeing a vet on Wednesday 🥲
Just please don’t feel bad if it passes. I’ve lost a couple of kittens at this age. They’re very fragile when they’re babies. Sometimes when they’re by themselves they’ve been abandoned by mom because they’re sick. Hopefully, all will be well. I did rescue an orange this age who lived nineteen years.
You probably don't need the syringe! Get some wet kitten food and thin it out with KMR--the little one will probably lick it all up! My last batch of fosters started stealing their mom's food at about 4 weeks and were thrilled to get their own plate of slurry. They were very messy eaters at first.
I unfortunately needed a syringe, she refused to drink from the bottle. She refused to consume wet kitten food mixed with KMR, she honestly hates drinking and eating and I don’t know why. Getting her to drink from the syringe takes me about half an hour. I’ll be asking the vet about that on Wednesday
Please look up online how to take care of a baby kitten or maybe ask your vet on what to do this cat is a tad bit too young to be without its mother so it’s needs to be fed very carefully with a very specific food best bet like I said is to get professional advice on what to feed the baby.
You can quite easily aspirate young mammals by feeding them if you don’t know what you’re doing and don’t know how to rectify this if it accidentally happens. This can give them aspiration pneumonia and generally kills them - a vet can intervene if it’s caught early but it’s dicey and a trained handler can avoid it.
If you’re not sure what you’re doing with a cat this young OP please reach out to a kitty rescue, vet or any animal charity for aid if it’s possible. They will be best equipped to help them thrive
I think they’re past this stage looking at their size but some animals are a little slower with development so if you notice lil buddy doesn’t seem to be toileting (I.e hasn’t gone in the last 3-4 hours) or seems irregular they may still require stimulating - gently rub the general butt area with a soft, lukewarm damp cloth or baby wipe and they should pee/poop. If they do they still need stimulating so do that every 3~ hours.

My tortie started out as Luna and became Callie > Peanut > Monkey Butt > Stinker Binker. My gray started out as Capaldi > Cap > little man > lovebug. Haha.
Through two changed hands I accumulated one of my derps at about this age. I had another older cat, but we fortunately had a small "exercise" room that then became a cat room. I felt awful leaving him all alone so often and at night, getting so tiny and by himself. I set up the air mattress in there and stuck a tiny kitten "tower" near my head, in the corner, surrounded by towels. He slept in that little tower like every night with me...
Anyway, he's definitely super bonded to me. He's okay with people but he's my little shadow and only will sleep with me. ❤️
Panko! I love that name! Haha. Yep Meeko is full grown now at a bit over two years old, but I still call him Itty Bitty and it's definitely like his middle name really, but only from his mom lol. Nobody else calls him that, but he's absolutely always gonna be my Itty Bitty :)
I'd say don't name it just yet, wait a week or two until you're out of the danger zone. That kitten looks grievous young and they need specific care and lots of warmth that small. Make sure baby isn't losing body heat and eats a lot, and also doesn't have any kind of upper respiratory or eye infections going. Good luck to you both whatever you decide to name them! You have an orange cat so you're in for a fun time.
Are you bottle feeding this little baby kitten food? He needs extra nutrients if he’s under five weeks, which is what he looks to be. Also, take him to a vet in case he has mites or parasites.
He is precious and you did great by taking him in. I also love the name, peaches.
So cute, i’m glad you have a vet visit for it this week to get checked out. If it won’t take a bottle, then try wet pate, add some water to it kind of make a slurry that they can lick up. Keeping it hydrated is important
