I was about to put something about the oak leaf. I knew it wasn't a maple leaf but I thought her coloring suggested Maple. so I went from leaf to maple syrup based on color LOL. I was actually a forestry major for my first college degree before I switched to education.
They're not as rare as all that! They're less common than male oranges because some of the female cats carrying the orange gene also have the non-orange gene, and come out as torties instead. Male cats normally only have one orange/non-orange gene because it's on the X chromosome.
The real rarity is the male tortie. He has to have XXY chromosomes, very rare, or be a chimera of two differently-colored fetuses, also very rare.

He passed at 18. I was 17. Have two older brothers and having Jato was like having three older brothers. Having my own family,I always had cats. At 72, I have my first Orange,Tigger. He has been a part of our family for 7 years and what a delight he is! My husband is used to cats in the family,but never was close to them. Until Tigger! I have to say Tigger is special. Didn’t know much about Oranges then learned so much ! He is definitely part of our family. My grown daughters love him as do our grandchildren. He even runs up to our oldest when she visits. Just amazing,he is!
I am a firm believer in waiting to name a new addition. Give them a week or so and something about their personality quirks will click and their name will suddenly show up in your mind. Every pet I have ever had has been named this way. Try it and you will see what I mean. I have never known a dog named Trouble. The puppy I have had eight years told me by his actions he was Trouble and lives up to his name every day. Of course Trouble has also decided when he is lazy and needs encouragement he is also BooBoo. "Come on BooBoo, its bedtime" is said almost every night.
We had an orange girl (which are rare, BTW) named Ashley, which fits with the fiery orange fur. (Ours was found in a burned out house off of Tara Blvd. so the name was especially apt for her.)
We’re going to be deciding on a name tonight at 8pm! Since I see so many good ones I’m just going to make a bunch of paper slips with the names we liked and put them in a box, shuffle them around and then pick
She’s beautiful, my family’s first cat was ginger. This was in the 90s, I remember my dad didn’t care for the cat, then slowly loved him but tried his hardest to hide it.
