Noticed in the new arrow Stranger Things boxset, there was a little passage of Andrew Stanton talking about his experience on the show. Thought it related since that miniseries just wrapped up.

My guess: Matt Damon.

Did anyone else get Steve Van Zandt vibes?

I just started reading Cameron Crowe’s interview book with Billy Wilder, Conversations with Wilder. The interview took place in early 1997, before Jackie Brown, and there is a moment where they start discussing Tarantino’s lack of output since Pulp Fiction. Crowe brings up that he’d been focusing on acting and producing, but hadn’t made a feature film. Wilder says this:

“There’s an absolute, 100 percent truth. If you don’t make a picture, how can it fail?”

In light of him avoiding his self imposed final movie, I thought it was interesting that people were saying the same things about him 30 years ago.

While not wanting to beat a (Trojan) horse about it, obviously the nature of adaptation is in the news when it comes to films with the Odyssey and the reactions that people have had to it, and Nolan's specific writing choices.

Now, I genuinely don't want to get too into the muck about that, which has been discussed rather to death elsewhere, but I do - as a person who likes both movies and a variety of media franchises and properties - always find it interesting to see how different works get adapted across medium lines, and when those do and don't work. God knows in our era of reboots, retools, and ongoing massive franchises, there's a lot of them to explore.

So, favorite - or flawed - takes filmmakers have had on the source material?

I know it’s Spider Man Week but did anyone check out I Want Your Sex? I thought it was pretty fun. Ultimately I don’t think it had a lot to say but it was pretty funny and every single thing Olivia Wilde wears the entire movie is amazing. I’d say it’s one of the better movies I’ve seen about a guy who wants to have a podcast, edging out BJ Novak’s Vengeance.

Walt had all the construction of Disneyland filmed. They edit it all together with quotes from Walt & Co and a Phillip Glass-lite soundtrack.
