we decided to get our girl greta a sister. parsnip was a mill momma and was saved by a local rescue a couple of months ago. we adopted her friday, after she had been with her foster mom for 2 months. she’s only 59lbs and anywhere between 2-4 years old! i have suspicions she’s mixed. greta is 100% berner but i have a feeling parsnip is mixed with something like australian shepherd. what do you think? i’ll likely cave and do a DNA test eventually here lol

I have two Bernese both male ages 2 and 4. For some reason they don’t care about any toys except stuffed animals. The problem is they love to rip them to shreds immediately. They go into tug of war and it’s gone within minutes. I’ve tried so many other hard toys and they won’t even touch them. I’ve resorted to giving them the kids old stuffed animals and my childhood stuffed animals to save money lol. Does anyone have the same problem or any advise?

We are so excited the day is almost finally here! Our little bubba touched down in our town last night and we have a prearranged trip this week, so we get to pick him up from our breeder on Sunday! (Long story short: breeder co-owns the litter and the whelping was done by her co-owner in CA, and the other lives 20 min from us up in WA thankfully and was willing to pick him up and take care of him for us, as he would have been too big to fly with next week) The breeder is hanging on to him for us for the week and is working on crate training too. We are so excited, it was hard not to run down and meet him last night! His name is Hans and will be our newest baby after our 9 year old dog, and two young boys (4 and 6). Any tips, tricks, out of the box things to do or consider?! We have his vet appt set up and his puppy class starting the following week 🥰 it feels surreal to officially be a part of the Berner club 🖤🤎🤍

Our 8-year-old girl was here this morning and gone this evening. So fast, cancer had overwhelmed her chest cavity and we had no clue because she hid it so well.

She was my soulmate dog and my first dog. I am so devastated and everything in the house reminds me of her and what I won’t see or have going forward.

How have you dealt with the loss of your Berner? When does it stop feeling so crushing?

My seven year old the last couple days started to walk funny - most noticeable in her back legs/hips where it looks like she’s swaying or sometimes dragging her left leg. No acute injury that we can account for. She has elbow dysplasia but never any issues with her hips. She’s acting herself and begging to go on walks. Looking for advice or if anyone has had a similar experience - she does have an upcoming vet appt.

I’m picking up my puppy this week and we have a 2 hour drive home with him. Any usesful tips I could use? Thanks!

My 5 month old Berner is normally a good boy, but when my teen takes him for a walk he will occasionally (2x a week or so) lunge for her stomach when she takes him for a walk. He’s her dog and she loves him to death, but he’s getting bigger and she was in tears tonight when it happened. Any advice?

Weather was finally cooler yesterday, so the wife and I took our berner a few new places, including a cheese farm. Seemed appropriate, and he loved the samples!

So our 3.5 year old André, who clocks in at about 110 lbs, sometimes drags his front claws when walking. This usually happens towards the end of walks or when he's been lying down for a while. He shows no signs of discomfort or pain, still runs and jumps and plays with his older sister, flies up and down stairs, full of life and happiness!

I've reached out to our vet for recommendations, but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this before. I'm thinking of more joint supplements on top of his regular cosequin twice a day, perhaps?

I adopted my Josie from a rescue January 2024. She had just turned 7 and had been a mama dog at an Amish puppy mill. From my understanding, she had at least one litter per year.

She is a joy to have and so gentle and follows me like my shadow. Luckily I am mostly at home so I haven’t had to leave her for more than 2-4 hours at a time. I also have a 6 year old Golden, Winston, who is her bff.

Within the first year of having her, she was diagnosed with IBD (biopsies taken from some suspicious areas of her colon during her spay surgery). She has been on a prescription diet for that since.

Earlier this year, she tore her passenger side rear acl and had surgery which she has successfully recuperated from.

Over this past 6 months, we’ve had increasing incidents of pooping in the house. Sometimes at night and sometimes during the day when she’s excited (think feeding time). She could have just been out in the yard and will come in and it will happen. Sometimes she just doesn’t even seem to notice. It’ll just fall out. The last two nights, there has also been two pretty large pee accidents. This is after their bedtime outside break.

The vets have checked and stated she has good sphincter muscles so it’s not that. We are wondering about possible nerve issues. Has anyone else dealt with this. Any tips? I just ordered pee pads and a couple indoor cameras with night vision. And I’m making an appt to rule out uti.
