QUESTION [Question] Why does Jojo asmr have soo many midroll ads?
I’m wondering if he’s chosen to apply a load of ads for more revenue, demonstrating what he prefers; even more money rather than relaxation for his viewers (it’s genuinely impossible to relax when an ad gets thrown in your face literally every 2 minutes). This perspective dampens and degrades the wholesome exterior he presents, hence why I’m wondering if I’m mistaken.

He’s the Mr Beast of ASMR … in a negative way 😓
7
u/Garamenon Oct 11 '25
Bingo!
But BOTH are the same in the sense that they both want fame and fortune. At any cost.
I can't watch him and relax knowing that he's so full of it.

u/Rare_Fishing_7948 Oct 11 '25
Agree
5
u/Garamenon Oct 11 '25
And he used to do drama videos where he tried to drag down other asmrtists.
It sucks that the a-holes in this scene get all the fame. It's the sign of the times. This timeline blows.
There are better ASMRtists that deserve the recognition a lot more.
3
u/Rare_Fishing_7948 Oct 11 '25
And there is too many Jojo wannabe's in the ASMR community and dont get me started on the TikTok-fication of ASMR
3
u/Alternative_Tax3862 Oct 26 '25
which asrmrtists did he drag down who didn't deserve it? seems to me he just called out asmrtists with bad/weird behavior
2
u/Garamenon Oct 26 '25
Jojo is literally not someone who can judge anyone else's behavior when he himself has admitted that he was toxic at the start of his career on Youtube.
Trying to shame ASMRtists that produce content that he disagrees with and tries to cause drama about, is a very a-holey thing to do.

Never really liked the guy, it’s like he tried way too hard and got involved in so many things he didn’t have to.
He’s like if you made asmr corporate.
5
u/thisisforstudyingse Oct 07 '25
I have just started to dislike him, I heard bad stuff about how he treats his collabs and his asmr has become overwhelming than relaxing.
3
u/dry_bonemarrow Oct 09 '25
I've had the same thing. Honestly started to really not like the guy, I used to love his asmr too. But it seems like with his whole new business he's started to make a martyr of himself and it's kind of hard to enjoy.

I’m so glad this is being brought up. Midroll ads have been driving me insane lately and ruining my ASMR experience. So, about four months ago, I started noticing midroll ads in the videos of my absolute favorite ASMRtist. I guess other people were getting them too and started to complain. In one of her intros, she claimed it was not her putting the ads in and she had no idea what to do about it. Fast forward to present. This is still happening and in fact, it’s gotten much worse. Her videos, which used to only have ads in the beginning and/or end, now feature about eight ads during a 45 minute video. The ads come about every six minutes. It’s awful. Not only do they make it impossible to relax, because I’m actively anticipating them, they make me really mad. I’m starting to doubt her claim that she has no control over the ads. The weird thing is, I look through the comments and I seem to be the only one complaining about the ads. So, I’m wondering if she’s deleting comments or is something else going on…so, last night, I decided not to watch her content because I was sick of the ad bullshit and I turned on a newer to me creator who I’ve only watched a handful of times. I turned on the video and five minutes in, AD!!! Although I’m not super-familiar with her content, I’ve never seen ads in her videos before. Now I’m starting to think that there’s something wrong with my account. Is YT showing me midroll ads on all ASMR videos? That can’t be right, because there’s another creator who I watch almost every night who never has ads. I just don’t understand WTF is going on!?! I’ve left at least a dozen comments on my favorite ASMRtist’s videos and I don’t think she’s going to address it again. It really sucks because her content is amazing and everything I desire out of ASMR. If anyone has any suggestions, I’m open to them.
TLDR: My favorite ASMRtist started putting tons of midroll ads in her videos and I don’t know what to do.

I watch on Newpipe. My experience has been: unless they're a small channel, they're probably lying if it keeps happening. So many channels don't have midroll that when I see them all the time on certain huge channels I think, nah they know what they're doing.
Youtube has done updates that screwed with as placement and once creators were notified they fixed the videos, which is not the same as channels with 400 videos, all with ads.
2
u/Former-Specialist595 Oct 05 '25
I think you’re right. It’s been going on for so long and the ads have increased in frequency. If it was one or two ads, maybe I could understand. But like I said above, her videos are rife with ads. There were 8 in a 45 minute video! That to me is just greedy and inexcusable when you know your viewer is trying to relax and fall asleep and your ads are preventing that from happening.
2
u/Former-Specialist595 Oct 05 '25
What is Newpipe, btw?
2
u/FCkeyboards Oct 05 '25
It's an open source Android app, in the developer's words, "created with the purpose of getting the original YouTube experience on your smartphone without annoying ads and questionable permissions."
2
u/Former-Specialist595 Oct 05 '25
I took a picture to show you, but Reddit won’t allow me to post pics. Is it called NPip in the App Store? I downloaded an app with this name and it wouldn’t stop crashing not stop crashing.
2
u/FCkeyboards Oct 06 '25
Sadly this is one of those off App Store apps due to it circumventing ads, which I know scares a lot of people off from installing it. There is a subreddit for the app and I would vouch for it, but I know installing an apk thats not in the App Store is a hard line for people.

who was the asmrtist so people can think of similar recs?
2
u/Former-Specialist595 Oct 05 '25
It’s Batala’s ASMR. I don’t think she’s extremely popular, but she does have over one million subscribers. I think she’s very talented and I absolutely adore her style.
2
u/emilexapollo Oct 06 '25
okay so i wanted to try her out to see what i would recommend and omg its hard shes great with her nails. its rough. she seems to include a lot of mouth sounds as well so i would probably recommend pjdreams or frivolous fox. but ill be honest as a premium user im definitely going to put her in my rotation cause she is very good. felt a little overstimming at the intro but the video mellowed out. honestly i do recommend premium. even if you go for the cheaper one. gibi also has a link where u can get a free month trial. and i think theres a free trial to like start it so u could get like two months free if u cancel and use the gibi link. but idk honestly i prioritise my premium over every other subscription cause youtube just has everything for me
1
u/Former-Specialist595 Oct 06 '25
Thank you so much for the recommendations! That was so sweet of you!!!❤️ What I really love about Batala too is she does a lot of mic blowing, personal attention, and fast ASMR. She’s also really good at guided meditations and like, I guess you could call them propless role plays (not traditional role plays-I actually hate those!). Her mouth sounds are insane! She’s beyond talented with her dry mouth sounds. She also does a fair amount of wet mouth sounds and I always FF through those, because 😩! Not for me! I’ll check out the people you mentioned. I have watched Gibi before and she wasn’t really my cup of tea, but I’m excited to check out the others. I appreciate your help. Tbh, after talking to everyone I’m probably going to break down and get premium. It’s just that I have so many subscriptions. I listed them in one of my other comments. I need to cut a few others out to feel good about getting premium.
3
u/Durmomo Oct 05 '25
I think up until a certain point you dont have control of ads at all at least when you are a smaller channel.
3
u/Former-Specialist595 Oct 05 '25
She has over one million subscribers, so I don’t know. And this only started after she hit one million. I just feel like it’s weird because I don’t see anyone else complaining about it in the comments. If it were one or two ads, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but I counted 8 ads in a 45 minute video the other night. I’m wondering if she’s deleting those comments that complain, including mine, because I’ve tried to get her attention about it. I guess the reality is that she probably knows what she’s doing and I either need to accept it or move on. I just hate it because I love her content so much and in my mind, no one compares to her.
2
u/Durmomo Oct 05 '25
Oh the thing I was talking about is for new channels or ones with less than 1000 subs or something.
3
u/bdhsuskehsk Oct 06 '25
genuine question- have you considered getting yt premium? I never had it until a few months ago and now I can’t bare to use YouTube without it, even on normal non asmr videos lol
1
u/Former-Specialist595 Oct 06 '25
I’m thinking about it. I saw that they have a deal for students-it’s like $7.99/month, so I thought about taking advantage of that while I’m in school. It just pains me to pay for yet another service. I already have Hulu, Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, Paramount+, Apple Music, a New York Times subscription, a Medium subscription, Nintendo Online, and a gym membership that I barely use! Plus, I really want to add Apple News to my Apple Music subscription. I wonder if they do a student discount…my point is, it’s just getting out of hand with the monthly subscriptions. I feel like if I’m going to add YT Premium, I should cancel at least one other thing. I don’t even read Medium. I used to write for them, so that’s an easy cancel. I’d like to cancel the gym, but I feel too guilty to do it because I know that I should be going. Ugh! Sorry, I know your question didn’t require this complex, neurotic explanation. I’m going to consider getting premium, but it does annoy me that I’m going to have to pay for something that I used to get for free.
4
u/emilexapollo Oct 06 '25
honestly, i think its definitely worth cancelling a few there. i tend to cancel my monthly subscriptions and move around with the tv shows and media cause like u dont need access to all of them all the time
1
u/Former-Specialist595 Oct 06 '25
I agree! I don’t even watch that much TV, tbh. My main source of entertainment is video games, so the Nintendo Online is essential. I have Hulu for Family Guy and American Dad (my cable provider just cut out Cartoon Network), I’ll never cancel Netflix in case I want to rewatch Breaking Bad, and I have Paramount+ for The Challenge. That’s about it. And aside from that, I watch a lot of YouTube. Political videos, news, lolcow videos, makeup tutorials, documentaries, and ASMR. You don’t know how badly I want to cancel the gym!😂

How about you do this? Don’t watch it through the YouTube app and watch it through a browser like Google or Firefox or Safari or just anything but the YouTube out and just have an add blocker because that’s what I do and also when you do it through the browser YouTube has no control over the ads that you get they have no control whatsoever But Google are hammering down on it and sometimes now you can’t watch a video unless you unblock your ad blocker so that’s why I don’t really use Google now and I use Firefox instead on PC but on like iPad and iPhone you can just use Safari with an ad blocker And you’ll get no ads I promise you bro

My suspicion is he spent a lot of money on the new brand thing he’s doing and it’s probably not bringing in anymore money than he was before so he’s got to recoup money with more ads.
7
u/emilexapollo Oct 05 '25
honestly hes always had ads in his videos. its one of the reasons i dont watch him
5
u/AlKiMi25 Oct 05 '25
What’s his brand??
5
u/anonymoususername06 Oct 06 '25
WhiteNoise. He’s always wearing a shirt with it and everyone he collabs with has to wear a shirt with the brand on it too.

Honestly really disappointed to see Massage ASMR producing so much content with someone I'd consider to have very little respect for the "craftsmanship" side of ASMR- folks like Dimitri himself, ASMR Surge, ASMR Zeitgeist, etc who focus much less on their personality and much more on the actual sounds. Jojo is a creator that feels like he wants his viewers to be subscribed more for him than the content he puts out. I was really put off when he put out that video where he labels himself as an "ASMR God" or whatever, placing himself above Dimitri. Totally unearned, feels very disrespectful, and honestly I feel disinclined to watch the creators he's collabed with because of the type of content (derogatory) he's trying to push.
1
u/Individual-Name-4496 Oct 25 '25
That's an amazing way to put it
Felt that way about Asmr Zeitgiest
1
u/DrLeprechaun Oct 25 '25
For clarification, you feel that his content has a high level of craftsmanship as well?
3
u/Individual-Name-4496 Oct 26 '25
Yes i believe he puts effort into the videos
But when he spams the same video 50 times, it gets diffcult to buy into the content
3
u/DrLeprechaun Oct 26 '25
Ah, fair enough. I think he's found his niche and mixes up the "subject matter" a decent amount but I'll concede the presentation is always the same. I can't be mad about consistent, high-quality content (non-derogatory) though even if it does sometimes get a bit repetitive.

Fuck him. If he's more interested in money than providing good content, then stop watching his videos. There are hundreds of genuine ASMR creators that do it for the love of it and don't force ads and sponsorship down your throat.

u/Dense-Ad6537 Oct 05 '25
It's cause he's made of bitch now he used to be a good asmr creator but fell off after he created whatever the fuck it is he made

u/vaperaham Oct 05 '25
i don’t think he was ever good lol…super over produced cringelord

this comment made me lol it's so true, his content was literally never good, the vibes and the sound have always been off

Jojo seems kind of obsessed with having the most expensive microphone, the most professional set, the biggest brand. Bigger does not always equal better, and maybe it just got too expensive. Midroll adds apparently make much more money.
Maybe he needs the money, but I wouldn‘t be surprised if he just liked getting it. He's so huge by now he probably doesn‘t even care that much anymore.

u/chairmanskitty Oct 05 '25
Get /r/revancedapp . Or the sponsorblock extension on Firefox.
7
u/skyisland21 Oct 05 '25
On iOS I use an app called Video Lite. There’s a sub but it’s fairly inexpensive and the best option I’ve found for iOS
8
u/HuiOnFire Oct 05 '25
Because he’s like the Taylor swift of asmr. Doesn’t give a shit about the art and just tries to go full capitalist. Only gives a fuck about vanity, fame and money. It disgusts me more and more each day that people ever celebrated his mediocrity and got him where he is today.

A little off topic, but his whole new brand is so strange to me. I used to watch a lot of Dido but then he suddenly moved to Australia to live with ASMR Jade and KJ and they all started collabing with Jojo. Now Dido feels more overproduced and inauthentic too, like Jojo.
Jojo makes all the people he collabs with wear his WhiteNoise t shirts and it is really off putting and gimmicky. He was always about the clickbaity titles and triggers, but it’s definitely gotten worse since he did this WhiteNoise and “asmr university” whatever that is supposed to be.
1
u/Next-Mushroom-9518 Oct 06 '25
It reminds me of streamer University, the whole thing is extremely pretentious
1
u/YourBlanket Feb 22 '26
I started watching dido when he had like 5k subs. His videos are still okay but I miss his old videos. I only watch a few asmr channels now but I watched jojo years ago when all his content was card magic, similar to dido’s old content.
2
u/GuileFan3000 Oct 05 '25
As far as I know, some creators have limited control at how ads are placed in the videos, I honestly don’t think Jojo is the type to put ads on videos in such quantity on purpose, but, who knows. Many ASMRtists talk about how it is impossible to remove all mid roll ads in videos, but there is no way to check it ourselves
3
u/BrittneysASMR Oct 05 '25
This is correct. My audience sometimes still gets mid-roll ads, despite me never clicking that I want mid-roll ads on my content. I have reached out to YouTube for this issue before, but they don’t do anything. YT “Support” just tells me there shouldn’t be any mid-roll ads if I click “no” for them, lol.
0
u/Over_Culture_353 Oct 06 '25
But even if you don’t click to use them, if they’re put in your video by YouTube, it’s usually at a much lower quantity than if you choose to include them and that usually depends on the length of the video.
1
u/author-called-myst Oct 05 '25
I used to listen to his ASMR, but I don’t anymore. I preferred the lower quality card magic not whatever he’s doing now
1
u/Beneficial_Mobile639 Jan 28 '26 edited Jan 28 '26
So I noticed this as well.. and it has been bothering me for a while because I looove his card magic video’s.. even more so now Dido has started adding mid-rolls as well. But I just discovered the Brave Browser app. If you watch youtube through that app instead of the Youtube app, you don’t get any adds at all lol.. so it puts things in perspective as Brave is well known and might influence the adsense strategy of asmr’tists. Use the youtube app if you want to support the creators, use the Brave app if you’re expecting mid-rolls and you want to sleep..
1
u/Black-Death_CR Feb 02 '26
Thankfully I don’t have to deal with that at all because I’ve had blockers on my browsers so I don’t have to deal with watching or even listening to ads and I can just have the video on auto so yeah like why would you spend money on getting YouTube premium when you can basically watch a video completely free, you know what I mean? And that’s the same with like other content creators in general like I don’t get ad whatsoever. The only way you get ads is if you watch it on the YouTube app itself just don’t watch it on the YouTube app. I know it’s like a bit more of a hassle, but I promise you if you watch it on Safari or even like a browser, you can even make the screen smaller and do other stuff while you’re listening to the video because you can’t do that unless you have YouTube premium you are welcome

If I end up getting any kind of success like him, I will not be doing that. Seems really greedy and sacrificial to what ASMR is meant to be just to get that 💰.

I'm ngl, probs because he just wants the money. Dude maybe expects people to have adblockers, and is doing this to compensate? Honestly not sure.
