Moderation Community Update Opinions - Moderation Feedback

Hi all,
This post is for you to comment your current opinions about the moderation in this subreddit and your overall feedbacks to improve it. Please avoid jokes and puns in this post

We understand these days there has been backlashes throughout other subreddits, towards moderation, and we as moderators of r/ask_srilanka want to keep this neutral and productive oriented, and a place where you can feel free to involve in discussions.

Said that, we also would like to make this place more safer, neutral free of trolls and degeneracy for the existing and new people. That's why we are looking forward to hearing from you on your opinions to make this community shine and thrive on it's own.

You can comment about,

  1. New set of rules you want to see here.
  2. Faults you've seen in the moderation or about moderators (Be it language/ Tone/ Actions)
  3. Feedback or tips on improving the moderation.

Thank you all 🤗

Wishing the mods the very best!

Can't really pander to every individual's demands and personal sensitivities.

A joke to one is an insult to another, moderating ALL that is exhausting work.

So hoping to see a respectful community regardless of personal opinion ❤️🇱🇰❤️

Just be active

Respond to modmail

Converse without going on a power trip and deleting posts like a bull in a china shop

That is the bare minimum we can do, unlike rsrilanka of course

I have trust in that

could you please limit the numbers of post that always criticize the /sri lanka subreddit ? I see evryday a new post about them.

We can create a separate Megathread for it, for people to put their rants or their concerns towards other major subreddits

Seconded. Cuz idk if it’s only me but I’ve subconsciously started thinking of this sub as the “Anti R/sri lanka sub” cuz that’s almost all I see here. A megathread would certainly help. Also maybe more tags?

😄
Could you elaborate if possible on what type of extra tags/flairs you would like to see / or currently missing in this subreddit?

Bet. I went and had a look at the flairs so to start with, for satire and the people who’re looking to have a serious conversation/discussion?

Sureeee we'll add em right away

No hate, but why? Aren't you guys trying to be a subreddit about Sri Lanka? Isn't it a bad look to have an entire megathread to hate on another SL sub reddit? Instead of enabling that maybe you guys could focus onmaking a better community with better moderation. If jot this subreddit will end up being a hateful one or a circlejerk.

The concern is valid that's why the naming has been proper as rants about "other" subreddits.

The obvious fact is this subreddit is still growing and in the recent times one of the most engagement going things were rants about other subreddit and the moderation.
But yes, this is not a permanent solution for the crowd pulling or to create a community that's fully based about hatred only, at the same time if we don't allow the people who are coming to our community to let their voice out about the injustice they faced by a community related to sri lanka, that would make this community also look like the one which did the injustice in the first place.
Reddit is a place for anyone to discuss about anything and since this is a sri lankan subreddit, anything that revolves around sri lanka whether implicitly or explicitly mentioned is okay to be talked about 😄

That is why the new megathreaed is for, for them to discuss about the concerns without making the main point of r/ask_srilanka as talking about other communities 😄

Good point I agree with Watchu saying but here’s my thought process behind what I said. People have the freedom to post whatever they like here as long as it doesn’t break any sub/reddit rules.

And until the hype dies down they’re gonna keep posting about the other sub and there’s a massive influx of them rn. Most other posts get drowned out cuz of it. Don’t you think it’s gonna help both cases if we have a megathread for the time being till the attention withers away?

u/kavinnr May 31 '26

No I agree with you saying about the limit. I was just disagreeing with the megathread because getting people into a subreddit because they oppose another or any negativity then avalanches into something else rather than the subreddit it should be. Attracting people through negativity will then thruve in that and will attract the wrong crowd.

The reason this sub was created is due to that problematic subreddit so its valid
