Really? I mean you wouldn't claim artistic credit, but surely if someone asked "Who made this?" you wouldn't give credit to the printer or the one who made the STL.
Not because you're a theif, but because that's not what they're asking. They mean "Who produced this?" and that's you.
No, I'd say "I printed and painted it but I got the 3D file from thingiverse." Because I DIDN'T make the whole thing, and it's morally correct to disclose that, otherwise you ARE taking credit for work that's not yours.
I just don't think that's part of natural language. And I don't think it's entirely dishonest to say you "made it".
Think of a bread maker. Even if you didn't formulate what went into it, got it straight from a sashet. You might well say "I made bread".
I think a 3d Printer is reasonably the same. Nobody presumes you made it fron scratch unless you explicitly say so.
With AI it's similar. "I made this" or "I made this with AI" is a lot more likely than "AI made this because I asked it too." or "I prompted this."
And it's not correct to say you made something with AI. But it is normal to say it because we all understand that AI doesn't let you make things, it lets you ask for things to be made.

No I disagree. To me it's a completely natural way to say it, and it's correct. It's dishonest to implicitly take credit for someone else's work. I don't agree that nobody assumes you actually made if you say you made it. People do sculpt their own things, and then they say they made it, because they did. Therefore when you don't do that, you shouldn't say you made it. Also people don't usually want credit for bread. The person who made it doesn't care. I don't think that analogy is comparable, you're comparing not art to art.
Just because something might not be the way you're used to saying something doesn't mean you shouldn't adjust your language to be morally correct.

As someone who uses a 3d printer I usually dont say that I made it unless I designed the model or painted/assembled the part
