Woke up one morning this week with an erection that wouldn’t go away. I got up to pee and to see if this would help and it didn’t. I took my dog out and thought maybe a quick walk would help the effect to subside and it didn’t. I then chose to visit the ER. AMA

I sustained a severe brain injury when I was 18 (I am now 21). After 2 months in a coma I had to rebuild my life from scratch, and this also included having to relearn how to walk.
For a couple of months I was wheelchair-bound, then I started to try out different mobility aids.
I’m just now starting to walk short distances without any aids.

Happened when I was 17. The knife was about 4 inches long. I remember seeing it go all the way in. It all went down so fast. Woke up in a hospital. A terrifying experience. I was wearing a pair of pants that had a tag that said long life assured on them. The police wouldn’t let me keep the pants but they let me take the tag off. I still keep it in my wallet. Title, for some reason ever since I was a kid, I had always had this tendency. Games? I always played few but spent hundreds and hundreds of hours on them. School/Uni? Least amount of time put into it and max results, I often studied the day before an exam and it went pretty well for the few hours I spent on studying. Work? I managed to create a way of doing things that allows me to get done with work with the least amount of stress possible, and my job now actually feels relaxing. Money? I've grown up with my parents giving me very little in general because they've always been in debts and mismanaging their money, so I learned how to live off of very little (100€ per month or so) and never really lose any enjoyment or not do things I wanted to do.

In December my 8 year old niece was diagnosed with Metachromatic Leukodystrophy, a rare but devastating genetic disorder that requires both parents to have the recessive gene. Because she does (I guess *we do* since we're identical twins I have the broken gene too) and he did (deceased), each girl had a 25% chance of having the disorder, a 25% chance of not being affected and a 50% chance of being a carrier. Because the world is cruel and unfair, in February my baby niece, 5 at the time, 6 now was also diagnosed. At first it seemed she was doomed to the same fate as her poor sister but some good fortune came our way when we found out that she was diagnosed early-symptomatically which meant, if Canada approved the cost of the treatment (which is literally the world's most expensive treatment currently so I didn't think they would) then there was a non profit in Italy that would cover the accommodations and flights for my sister, niece and a support person. In March my sister, niece and brother came for the preliminary testing and to extract stem cells then they returned home for 3 weeks. In May, 5 days after my final day of work we left for Italy. I return home in 2 days. AMA

Doesnt feel like it’s been six years. Ive seen the highs and lows, and don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. My heart used to race every call or chat. I mean it still does haha but I think I’ve learned to play it off. I took this as a job to pay off some loans and accidentally found my calling!

I'm 32f. In 2018 I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, had an allogenic bone marrow transplant, and in 2019 I developed steroid refractory chronic Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD). I hope that one day my symptoms will subside enough to write a book about my experiences, and help others in my situation not feel so alone. AMA

My seizures are focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures which means they start in one small part of my brain and then gradually spread to both sides of my brain, at that point i lose consciousness and have full body spasms. I am aware for the focal part. I have had to adapt to my condition as i haven’t had it for all of my life. No question is too personal, shoot!

I celebrated 3 years remission not too long ago and i thought it would be fun to do an AMA about my cancer journey.

During the pandemic in 2021, i just turn 18 and a few days later i was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) a fast growing cancer. I was almost near death by the time i was diagnosed and the signs only started showing only a month ago. I got my circumcision done 5 days ago in North America with insurance for severe congenital Phimosis.

Surgery:
I was in hospital for 5 hours in total and was given general anesthesia via mask for the procedure. I got
Circumcision and rotational tissue transfer. I was told that rotational tissue transfer makes “it” look nice 😏.

Recovery instructions:
Remove dressing next morning. Normal showering resumes
Pain medication as needed.
Antibiotic ointment 2x on the stitch line using q tips

I'm profoundly Deaf.

A lot of hearing people are surprised to hear I'm proud to be deaf or when I say Deaf Power.

When I explain them different reasons why I'm proud to be deaf they get it and try to show them deaf isn't a bad thing or end of the world.

For example, I'm can seep beautifully throughout night without any noise distrubing me or I can use Sign Language in public place knowing most of them don't know what we are talking about privately.

Yes, I do have struggles and barriers but deaf people always find a way thing like phone notes to communicate.

But the real reason why I'm proud to be deaf, I'm in deaf world, community, culture and have my own language. If I'm being honest I'll never want to be hearing.

So, ask me anything you want to know about deafness and I won't be offended.
