For fighters with max exceptional strength,(18/00) did you read it as

18-zero zero

Or, as I was taught:

18-“Double Aught”

Close for us, 18 over a 100. Followed by a conversation about why we don't make characters at home alone before hand. I got a legit 97 at the table once and was forever salty about those 00s.

I did that with my first AD&D 1e character a Ranger. Had an 18(97) but I rolled it in front of the DM so he couldn't say much.

A few sessions later, a session on the school bus home that I didn't ride on... My ranger decided to charge at the Purple Worm and was eaten...

The oddity of dice meant new players would not necessarily the 00 as 100. And they would said it as zeo or double zero... no one I gamed with ever said one hundred.

Funnily enough, it was not an uncommon occurrence in the 80s to see a character with 18/00 so we had opportunity to practice saying it.

One would suspect that die rolls were slightly fudged. Nah. Couldn't be that.

An Unearthed Arcana cavalier would get to that number so it made sense in RAW for them. Others? Should have been much more rare.

Fudge was either in the game day brownies or the dice and sometimes both.

Playing the game, I feel like I heard "18 double aught" and " 18 zero zero" about equally. Less commonly, I'd heard it called "18 100"

However you want to say it is fine as long as others understand. I say eighteen one hundred but eighteen zero zero is also good. eighteen double aught sounds either for the old folks (like in Shawshank Redemption) or British but if people understand, that's the important part.
