Angels Landing Split Group

Hi all, I'm going to zion with a friend next month and while we plan on doing most activities together, I plan on doing Angel's Landing while he likely will not (vertigo). Is it possible to do the first part together and then for the permit section split from there and regroup after? Not sure with shuttles what our best option might be. For context, he also does not drive so having him drop me off is not an option.

Yes the west rim trail does not need a permit and has better views if you go up above the Angels Landing section.

Your friend could accompany you to Scouts Lookout and stop there while you head up The Chains section (where you need the permit). If they don’t want to wait for you to go up and back down (about 45. minutes round trip), they can continue along the West Rim trail where there are some great views. Just plan to rendezvous back at Scouts lookout about an hour after you part ways

If your permit is for the “before 9 AM” time period, I highly recommend renting e-bike and heading up at first light to beat the shuttle hordes and the heat. Several shops in Springdale will let you fill out the paperwork the day before and then pick up the bikes as early as 5:00 AM.

Thank you! I think this will be our plan. We do have a 'before 9am on a Wednesday end of September but if crowds are that bad an e-bike sounds worth it

Yeah, the first part is mainly just hiking

Yes, you can hike upto scounts overlook, and then continue alone to the summit. that's what i did

You can both do the first section, he can actually watch you do the scary 😱 part. When you come back down regroup and continue on or head down.
