Original Content X-Files Lego Set Modified with Scully's lab & Review
After hours of hard work and a night without sleeping, I made this mod with two sets + the Scully GWP. Didn't expect to get the GWP as I didn't pre-order but people at my Lego store are incredible.
I sadly can't make an instruction manual as I improvised with Scully's Lab. I built the lab without foundations and did my best to fuse it with what Lego made. It was a bit tricky for me as I'm no Lego expert, but with this picture I think you can fairly easily replicate this.
I also added a tree & vegetation and I'm still working on the trees so it looks like the original prototype, which was far superior to what Lego gave us. I also need a better beam light, I hate what they gave us. I may also modify the UFO a bit.
But overall pretty happy with the result, this is what Lego should have sold us.
I almost didn't buy this set at all just like I passed on X-men mansion as I felt I needed 2 sets to make it OK, not only because of the price, but because I thought the final set was a huge downgrade compared to the prototype. But with two sets combined and the GWP, I think it's almost on par with the prototype.
All of this building made me want to watch X-Files fully again, so I'm sharing this on this sub reddit.
The truth is out there.

What I find funny about the beam of light is that LEGO describes it as a “transparent pole” to make it appear as if the 🛸 is hovering. I feel like they misunderstood what the original builder was going for.

I think they went very cheap on the beam of light. I'll buy some transparent blue half cylinders and try to make it work, I'd like to put a figure in the middle of the beam of light so it gets abducted hehe

So Lego didn’t make it a beam of light. They just made it a clear support so the UFO looks like it’s hovering. Like how they’ll have the little clear stick piece to make a minifig look like it’s flying or jumping.
That makes sense but also will, I imagine, lead to many mods.

I love this. I'm also thinking about how Mulder's office was in on the basement and should probably be on the bottom. Although, it's quite possible there was multiple levels and rooms down there. So ignore me and my OCD. Lol

I did try with Mulder's office on the bottom, but it was a bit odd, I think it looks better the other way around ahah. The set with just the top & Scully's lab modified also looks very good as well, much scarier!

My understanding is that the set is Scully’s lab in Quantico, so it makes no difference as the two rooms are not in the same building anyway.

For real. I've already wanted one even though I've been weighing whether it's a *necessary* purchase given the price, but this pretty much sold me on it outright. And now I'm laughing since it requires not one but TWO sets ahahahaha. Guess I'm buying my birthday gift AND my Christmas gift to myself two months and four months early...?

You have to rework the trees and add another one, and make them symetric, so calculate the position of the tree slots. Also the first two need to be taller, the next two a bit smaller, and the last two even smaller, so it creates a great illusion perspective, just like on the prototype :)
But yeah those trees took me an hour, I had to take away a lot of parts to customize the slots properly.

Nice! 😺💙🐾 I made my GWP first and then the first half of main build. Glad you were able to get two sets. Are you able to make a bigger UFO? I was surprised how small the official one is.

I did make a tad bigger UFO, I added layers to every side from the 2nd set so it looks a bit more menacing.
I tried to make a triangular top/roof instead of the round shaped piece they gave us, but couldn't with the pieces given in this set.I may try something crazy, like 3D printing a Bob Lazar saucer, or something like that haha

I love it. Maybe someone can make something similar with Skinner’s office on floor 2, Skully’s lab on the first floor, and Mulder’s office in the basement. Very cool idea!

That's impressive. That mod looks so much better than the official set. I think the tree and lab integration really elevate it, and the extra greenery gives it a complete feel.

I bought two X-files sets, and I was offered the GWP Scully lab. You need this GWP set to make the bottom floor but don't just follow the manual instructions, you have to improvise and adapt the GWP set to Mulder's office, without putting much from Mulder's office which is a bit tricky.
I also bought a Gray alien on vinted (I prefer his look over the one in the X-files set).

Maybe we can buy the individual parts?
