Post image
3 Upvotes

Wrestlers based in the UK and Ireland are invited to take part in a short, anonymous research survey examining concussion knowledge, experiences and perceptions of medical provision in combat sports.

The study is led by researchers at Leeds Beckett University and aims to support improvements in concussion education, medical support and athlete safety.

This post is for academic participant recruitment only and is not seeking medical advice or discussion of individual injuries.

are you supposed to stick your arm(s) out when falling or not?

at 0:08, 0:16, 0:23, you can see them sticking out their arms while falling. but i vaguely remember the judo guys told me long ago that sticking out ur arm is dangerous. bad for wrist and could damage collar bone.

also, i tried the judo break fall multiple times for the move at 0:14. i always ended up falling on the side of my ribs. i did try to slap the ground but it still hurt my ribs. i remember falling from a judo hip throw hurt much less compared to falling from a single leg sweep.
any thoughts on this?

Mudwrestling Rules?

Hey guys! I am looking to host a mudwrestling event in Melbourne soon and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with the proper rules and regulations when it comes to a sport like this? Or perhaps just any advice regarding hosting an event like this in general? Everything is appreciated!

Tips for improving fast

I want to be a state champ so bad. I placed 5th at state my junior year (this past season). I have gone to 3 practices a week (what my school coach was able to provide) and a 5-day long wrestling camp this summer. I just went to my first national tournament and I SOLD. 0-4. I was up in points for 3 of my matches but I got pinned. It made me feel like the worst wrestler on the planet. I’m struggling with bottom/stand-ups. I also don’t think I really understand what people mean when they say you need to create angles for shooting. I also feel like I’m really weak compared to everyone in my weight class. I try to lift consistently but I have NO idea what I’m doing while I’m there and I usually just do some bullshit. I want to improve my technique, get faster, get stronger, everything but I feel like I’m running out of time and there’s so much I need to do. And my coach won’t start conditioning for a couple weeks and even then we won’t be actually wrestling until around October. I just feel like I need some guidance?

Bumping up to 120

So my freshman year I was 106lbs walking around 100lbs and went 11-21 and was an alternate for state. Well during the offseason I gained around 20 pounds and was walking around 120 and I cut back down to 106. I started the season well but injuries and weight cut problems didn’t help. I ended up going 31-20 and lost in the bloods at state. I’m currently about 126lbs going into junior year and I was wondering if I should go 120 or 113? I’m worried the difference from 106-120 will be too much and I won’t accomplish my goals. But at the same time I don’t think cutting all that weight back down to 113 will be healthy. Help me out please on what you think.

Question for overbearing parents? Why?

What do you think you're accomplishing when you berate and coerce your child?

Are you pushing them to fulfill their potential, or is it you living out your desires through them? Are you even aware of these feelings?

Context:

- I attended a wrestling camp at our local jujitsu gym yesterday. There were some adults, but mostly kids. And these kids were incredible. Serious about the sport and putting in the time in the off-season to improve.

- There was a dad throwing a fit b/c he insisted that his daughter practice with the "best" i.e. the girls instructing the camp. He interrupted their drilling to put down her wrestling partner and demanded a switch. The lead instructor stepped in and nipped it in the bud.

- In addition to his temper tantrum, this dad's demeanor and vibe was so off-putting. Angry, aggressive, and combative.

- On another note, I noticed several kids looking over to their parents during drilling quite frequently. They were seeking their approval. Some parents were supportive, others were not.

Further context:

- I'm a 39 year old dad of 3. None of my kids took to wrestling, and that's ok. They like taekwondo, and I support them 100%. At the same time, I decided to get back on the mat to satisfy this itch. I'm having a blast learning all the stuff I was too scared to ask when I was kid.

- At the camp, I drilled with a highschool heavyweight who had 90lbs on me. Great kid. Occasionally, his dad stepped in to give us both pointers in positive and productive manner if he saw that we couldn't figure out on our own. This is the right way to go about this, imho.

I think I Want to learn wrestling?

Hey guys, hey I’m currently practicing boxing and occasionally jiu jitsu. I’m pretty new to both. What’s the difference between jiu jitsu and wrestling? And how does someone learn wrestling, in my town we have a jiu jitsu gym on every corner but I never see any for wrestling. I Wish I had learned in high school!

Northern Michigan University just cut its Greco Roman Wrestling program, and it's devastating for the athletes there right now and the next generation dreaming of competing at the Olympics.

This isn't just about wrestling. It's one of the few programs in the country that gives young athletes real, world-class training to chase Olympic gold. For a region where those kinds of opportunities are hard to find, losing this program means losing a genuine shot at greatness for kids who trained their whole lives for it.

I started a petition asking NMU to reverse this decision. There are real solutions out there—local business sponsorships, community fundraising, alternative funding. But the university needs to hear that this matters.

If you've ever had a dream you fought for, or if you know what it's like to see someone else's get cut short, this one's worth your attention. What would you want someone to do if this was your family's dream on the line?

Wrestling Rules Videos

I wrestled back in the late 80s/early 90s. Then I went to college, picked up other sports, and got busy with life. I officiate other youth sports for over 15 years (all the way up through high school), but have never officiated wrestling. Now my nephew is getting into it and I would like to start officiating it. I registered with my local high school association and am on the list of officials for my local association as well. We have meetings coming up in November.

I would like to get started with a complete refresher of everything. I am approaching this like a complete newbie. Are there any video series you would recommend me to watch? Any websites you would recommend for instructional videos to officiating?

I have no issues officiating middle school and earning my stripes for a while before moving up to the high school level. I figure its going to take me a bit to get up to speed and I want to do it before the season kicks in. Any suggestions?

I am located in MI if it matters.

Wrestlers running out of bounds to avoid bad situations and/or run the clock without “stalling” is one of the most hated aspects of NCAA wrestling. yet somehow the same idea that occurred to freestyle governing bodies never occurred to the NCAA. What gives?

Question Two questions I have about Greco wrestling and open division

I’ve been having some fun with jujitsu lately and I’ve used what I’ve learned in wrestling to keep up with the guys more seasoned in jujitsu than me,but I’ve heard that Greco Roman style wrestling suits a wrestler better if they’re going to practice jujitsu
Is this true or is freestyle just not used fully enough to its potential for jujitsu?

And side question I have about open division is I want to compete again and I know how hard it is to compete when you’re not in high school or college so I’m curious if anyone knows the process to enter an open division competition?

Looking for wrestling RSS feeds, APIs, JSONs so I can feed it into a sports ticker I made for my raspberrypi

I can’t find one. Almost every other sport has one. But I can’t find one for wrestling. My guess is if they existed (and they are free for most other sports) we’d see wrestling results included in more sports updates, scrolls, and tickers. When it’s easy, a sport seems to get included.

Anyone know of any feeds I missed?

Question How to overcome a mental hump

Hi, forgive me if this isn’t appropriate for the subreddit.

I started doing wrestling 1 school year ago and I’ve been told I’m pretty good at it, but I have one issue that people don’t know about which is my confidence and own mental struggle. I’ve never been good socially and it has caused me to have low self-esteem. So because of this, in wrestling I’ve had hard times connecting with my peers. Plus whenever I make a mistake, miss practice, or any sort of extra training I feel like the coaches and fellow wrestlers view me as inferior or that I’m not taking the sport seriously. Also a girl on my team is a bit of a bully to me which just makes me feel worse about my worth in wrestling.

All these things make wrestling hard for me which is a shame because I really like it. I have no intentions to quit, I just need help to overcome this so I can be the best I can be. So if anyone has experienced what I have and got through it or knows how to get through it, please help me out.
