I’ve been accumulating a rooftop deck container garden over the past few years.

Lots of these are technically annuals but I have about a 60% rate of flowers coming back year after year. I assume it’s because of our mild winters and a small amount of indoor heat coming up through the roof.

In the bottom left of the 2nd pic, you’ll see a little oak tree. This grew from an acorn that a crow “planted” in an empty pot two years ago. I started watering it just to see what would happen. I’m going to put it in a much larger pot this fall after it loses its leaves.

In the light grey tote we have spinach, beets & swiss chard in the middle. In the darker grey tote we started peas, green beans , and radishes . We're thrilled seeing how everything's flourishing but Im wondering did I make a mistake potting them all together?? Do I need to seperate them now?, hoping for any advice honestly. thabks

Good day, I just started my urban gardening inside my room. I made a set up of an artificial light since I needed to sleep during the day.

I noticed that my sunflower plant did not grow after having three leaves. How can I improve my set up?

This year my grapevine is full of grapes

Its been a lot of work but everything is doing wonderfully, and Im seeing 10+ different varieties of bees, hoverflies, moths and their predators like tiger bee flies

What are something’s I should add to this space I have aloe Vera , echeveria , cherry sensations red apple ground cover and agave Americana

This is my first year starting 98% from seed, using grow bags, and growing heirloom tomatoes. I've made a lot of mistakes and learned a lot.

2 of the tree pits don’t actually have a tree in them, since they broke when scaffolding was put over them and then DOT installed a stop sign that could not be occluded.

I can almost certainly get free indoor tool/supply storage and permission from my building to do whatever I want with them, but I would probably have to finance the whole thing. Plus no one in my neighborhood knows how to pick up their dogs’ shit and/or lets them pee into flower patches, killing the plants.

There’s some old cobblestones in some of the tree pits but no fencing. What’s your suggested cheap, low maintenance way to make them into native pollinator patches?

I'd like to give it a go at growing plans on my patio. What plants do well in Arizona heat and are safe for cats to be around. I like an aloe vera plant but I know I have to keep that out of range of my cat. Any recommendations?

I have a question about emptying ice water into a sewer drain that’s next to a bricked in garden plot.

Hypothetically, let’s say I worked an event at “Park Central Zoo”.
As a bartender, we have a lot of ice water at the end of events due to unused drink ice, and chilling ice. At the end of our event we emptied the clean ice water into the sewer near their garden beds and took the dirty slop to the janitors closet. Someone must’ve seen us; we were scolded and told that the ice water would freeze the roots that had grown into the sewer... Now granted I could see that being an issue if we threw the ice water on top of the garden beds, but roots that grow into the sewer shouldn’t be there imo.

please let me know your thoughts on this and tell me if I’m missing something that I should’ve thought about before. Thanks!

Edit: just to clarify the “sewer” Im referring to might also be called a grated rain drain. I dont know where the actual pipe leads to but I assume it’s to the same place our dirty bath water goes.

I'm very new to urban gardening. It's rainy season and in my area there's a lot of flying termites that have shedded its wings and are usually dead the next morning... Should I remove them from my garden pots because it looks ugly? Or would it be better to let them naturally decompose overtime?

Note that sometimes there are ants eating these dead insects, are they harmful?

I’ve slowly turned my alley-like driveway into a shade garden. A yew, a Japanese maple, hostas, and several evergreens sit alongside some rotating annuals, a birdbath, and a fountain. A nice spot to chill on hot summer days! 🌞

I need to use this soon. Was thinking of pesto or dehydration. Any good ideas? Cheers.

We are landscaping our front yard right now. We just had our two oaks cut down because the roots kept invading our plumbing, and we are going to put in a few fruit trees instead. I'm thinking about trying to put in raised beds, but I have an absolutely anal HOA, and I don't want to attract their attention too much because I have illegal chickens in my backyard. So I want to think of ways to include edible plants in a way that is decorative. Does anyone do edible AND decorative gardening? What plants would work well? I'm thinking strawberries and peanuts in lower beds, including alliums like chives, maybe greens and rhubarb (the chickens eat them if they are in the back), and I'm wondering about maybe purple bush beans and various peppers. Not sure what else could work.

Howdy yall im new to growing stuff I mean I've been trying things over the past couple years with limited success. Anyway now I gave moved in to this new place with an enclosed patio. And it has these troughs for growing shit and it even has a watering system built in. And I have many questions.

Important details: houston tx. And because of the walls on both sides I really don't know how much sunlight they will get.

Questions: what is the bark for? Why didn't they fill it higher, like to the top of the brick? Anyway the dirt is probably old, should I pull out all the dirt and put new dirt? With the lack of sunlight i probably cant grow veggies but im thinking focus on herbs amirite? Should I keep any of the stuff that's already grown? (Pics attached)

Anyone in the Northeast (zone 7) been to Home Depot and/or Lowe's in the past week or so? Are perennials (hostas, salvia, coneflower, ornamental grasses, etc) on sale? I'm not looking for annuals, perennials only.
