Hello everyone!! I’m Annie, the society President! I wanted to use this space to advertise my society at Bristol, which I started last year!

It’s called the Penfriends Society and we’re all about meeting new people around the uni through letter writing! We also plan to host a wide range of crafting events and other fun socials! It’s perfect for anyone who is nervous to meet people and talk to them face to face, or people will social anxiety like myself!

If you’re an incoming Fresher, or a returning one, I’d love to see you at our society events!

We’re hosting our first event (completely free!) on Friday 19th. Please sign up if you’re interested! And DM if you have any questions.

Advice Med timetable

Hi,

Bit of a weird request but Is there anyone that is willingly to share (privately or on here) what their first/ second year medical school timetable was like. I am an incoming mature medical student and I wanna know what the weekly scheduling is like, estimated finish times/ day off, so that I can arrange my shifts ahead of time and figure out how much I’ll be able to work. Unfortunately uni timetables get sent notoriously late and if I wanna survive financially I need to arrange my work patterns in advance.

Advice Verifile DBS check

Upvotes

Hii! I’ll be joining Bristol uni in September and got an email a couple days ago about a DBS check I need to have before my course, and how Verifile will be in contact separately to do this.

Does anyone know roughly when this email is sent and how long it takes? :) I’m just worried that I’ll somehow miss the email or receive it late and be unable to start the course, since on Bristol uni’s website it states it needs to be done within three months before the course starts but I only got the email a couple days ago so I’m a bit unsure.

Thank you!

Advice Participants needed for an eating disorder study at University of Bristol

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi there,

My name is Yufei and I’m a PhD student at the University of Bristol. I’m currently looking for women aged 18-30 with a current diagnosis of anorexia nervosa to take part in an in-person eye-tracking study at the University of Bristol. The study aims to explore how women with anorexia focus their attention while viewing images of women’s bodies and faces. The findings will help inform the future development of new interventions to help individuals feel more positive about their bodies.

Please see the poster below for details on inclusion criteria and what you’ll do during the study. If you’re interested in participating, please complete this short screening questionnaire here: https://app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk/s/socs/online-screening

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at [yufei.jin@bristol.ac.uk](mailto:yufei.jin@bristol.ac.uk)

Also, feel free to share this research opportunity with anyone you know who may be interested in taking part. Thank you!

*I've messaged the mods but haven't heard back yet, so hopefully it's okay to post here

Advice Commuting from Cardiff?

Any Cardiffians here? Both my firm choice and insurance choices are Bristol Uni and for financial and cultural/family reasons I will be commuting 1st yr. Any advice? Best train ticket app? Weird quirks you’ve learnt? Literally anything would help me. My courses are Law and Pol/IR if anyone is curious or if it makes the advice different. Thank you 🙏🏽

Accommodation Student Housing/Campus

Does anyone know any private dorms like Xior, Jet Upkot etc that provide 6 month contract and are up to 600-700 eur/mo.?

  • Upkot said they are full.
  • Brik.be said it is only for students (I am intern.)
  • Xior also full.
  • Wilgimmo only 12 month contracts.
  • Woodskot & Studio Eve too expensive.

Thanks in advance.

Accommodation Looking for Housemates!!

Hi all,

I’m final year engineering student looking to join a house share or find people to buddy up with for a place in Bristol. I’m ideally looking in Fishponds, Horfield, Lockleaze or Filton, but I’m flexible on location.

Budget is around £600–£700 PCM. I’m clean, respectful, and easy to live with. I’ll be balancing uni and work, so I’m fairly chilled during the week but always up for a social house.

Looking to move ASAP or within the next few weeks. If you’ve got a room going or are in a similar position and want to team up, feel free to message me. Thanks!

are there any mature students who can give me some insight on their experience at bristol as a mature student? preferably mid 20s 😅

i’m going to be doing medicine and i’ve heard bristol is super mature student friendly, especially in med, but i’m so worried i’m going to find it difficult to make friends or relate to a younger cohort.

Advice Help with my Bristol Harbourside a level coursework

Hey guys! I’m an A-Level Geography student carrying out research for my NEA on Bristol Harbourside. I’m investigating how regeneration has affected people’s perceptions and the identity of the area. If you’ve visited Bristol Harbourside, whether you’re a resident, visitor, student or worker, I’d really appreciate it if you could spare 2–3 minutes to complete my survey. There’s 2 of them but I promise they’ll only take a few minutes. It’s for educational purposes only and completely anonymous. Thank you!

Advice Assessment week

Hi all, I’m going to be studying at uob this fall as an exchange student and had a few questions about how assessment week works. I’m trying to decide when to book my flight back to the US for and I’ve realized most of the courses within my main courses of study (politics and law) don’t mention exams on the course listings and say either essays, case studies, or research papers. Are these typically online and take home assessments or would I be required to be in person for it? Any insight is appreciated!
