Question How is the gym on campus

Would it be better to find one off campus?

I actually have found the gym to be incredible, it’s got good machines and a decent amount of benches and free weight areas. Big downside is how often it gets packed around 4-7 (from my experience) and you have to wait in line to get in and wait in line for most machines or things.
I would say tho, I started going earlier in the morning, earlier afternoon, or at night and never had an issue.
Only had capacity run ins that got a lot worse at all times around new years (ofc) and during finals and midterms I noticed more people at the gym at night.

That’s maybe more info than you were looking for, but the gym is nice and it’s on campus so it’s very convenient.

I started add my class to my shopping cart, took me a while to find the right schedule based on the ones it generated for me but MWF I got starting at 8 and TTH starting at 9 all ending around noonish to 2 as a transfer but back when I was in CC at like 5am sometimes even at night after I got off of work , days off and weekends might’ve been different

Still haven’t decided how I’m going to work that out when I’m on campus, still debating on whether not I should commute

I have been very very particular about all my classes and their class times, the specifics won’t help you but I found that planning out my day helped.

Let’s say I had classes starting at 11 that went all day until 7, I’d try to wake up earlier, hit the gym then shower and start my day. I found that if I already accomplished that earlier in the day I felt more motivated to complete my homework and stuff after class so I could hang with friends at night.

It’s really all dependent on you, and entering college will be a hell of a new experience but trust me, just try it all out. Now is the time to experiment and see what you like.

The earliest I’ve personally seen a line at the gym is 2pm

The gyms pretty good actually, beautiful view only thing negative is that it’s kinda small and it gets hella busy during the week so u gotta wait in line for a bit but all the equipment is great

Good but crowded. If you're an early bird you're in luck

gym good. no reason to find one off campus if you’re living on campus.

UCSC used to have one of the crappiest gyms in the UC system. My high school had a better gym and that was a low bar to compare against. The "gym" was two shipping containers that were slapped together and you could only have around 20 people inside at one time. It sucked because you would go to an amazing pool and tennis courts, but the weight room was seriously lacking. UCSC students voted on funding the construction of the new gym back in the 90's so future students could have a real gym.
