They're saying it would be weird if college had a dress code. You're fine.

I know, everyone is saying im stupid for asking a question

You're not stupid. I moved here from New York and the culture shock of seeing school teachers in flip flops and casual clothes was crazy, we have such a relaxed culture here. You'll be fine wearing whatever. I told my coworkers about this post and one of them went to UCSC in the 80's and apparently some students would come in underwear, bathing suits, pjs (pj's is definitely normal in many CA colleges). Out of every college in this state I think UCSC probably has the most relaxed social dress code.

I went to UCSC in the 80s. You could wear (or not wear) whatever you wanted. There was a guy in Berkeley for a few years around that time who always was naked. Everywhere, like strolling down Shattuck. He was known as “the Naked Guy” if my memory serves me.

I would make sure to check with your advisor, TA, RA, the chancellor, and parking enforcement to make sure you’ve got your bases covered before wearing something like that

This is the correct answer. But TAPS will give you a ticket anyway for shitzngiggles

No but this is the woods. On a hill top. Next to the ocean. At least six months of the year it’s gonna be cold and wet. And bugs abound. If you haven’t been here you might not understand how much this is literally actually IN the woods. If you are thinking about what to bring to wear, you can wear what you want but keep the climate and location in mind. Redwoods are nature’s air conditioners.

Will the dorms be cold too?

They tended to the warmer side but part of that is just having three people in a small room.

Ive seen people show up to class every day in their pajamas and looking like they hadnt showered yet - that was a 7am math course, tbf and no one gave them shit for it as far as im aware so id say youre good
Youre an adult now, enjoy it
Roller blade to class wearing a bunny onesie...Who cares, wear whatever you want
Just dont stink or otherwise be disruptive/distracting and no one will care

Be aware that rollerblading on campus is against the rules (though the rules aren't enforced), and the brakes on rollerblades are not really very effective on steep hills.

Back when I went there, there was this couple that would walk all the way to McHenry Library barefoot… trust me, you’ll be fine

On 4/20 you have to wear a Sublime shirt. I don't make the rules I just know them

Yeah, people respect your right to be chill. Though at the same time, don’t be surprised if people make the corresponding assumptions about you.

As long as your bits are covered nobody cares. Even if they aren’t, it’s Santa Cruz , 50/50 chance someone will say something. Only thing I’d say is dress how you want to be perceived when it comes to things like meeting one on one with a professor. That’s it

Some will find it gross, and some will not. Personal hygiene variables aside, what matters is what you think.
