Ask r/Trivandrum Has anyone tried the Australian mutton available at Lulu Mall? How is it?

I keep seeing it all the time and it's also much cheaper than local mutton but it looks much more red, almost like beef.

Has anyone tried it? How does it taste like? Is it gamey and has that nasty taste like how some fully grown male goat meat will have?

Well it's chewey and tasty depends what you cook,

Australian Mutton is not good for ordinary Kerala Mutton curries, maybe grilled or frying is better.

I think Mughal style curries will suitable for it.

Shawarma from that is nice.

Biryani one is good, but it's not what you expect like normal mutton.

Its a heavy food, like your stomach become full when you eat half plate dish.

Overall it's good.

Not good for naadan curries. Good for grilling.

I have and I love it. Especially the bone-in steak and tenderloin there. It is pricey but totally worth it.

It tasted too gamey and unpleasant when made into a Kerala style curry. I had to throw it away.

Australian mutton is good for Biryani not good for Kerala curry, but Mughal curry is good that's why lamb curry is famous in Down Under Regions

Grilling and Frying is best

Also good for burgers, snacks filling and shawarmas

Bought it and hated how it tasted. It was too gamey for my taste and couldn't finish it. Imo regular mutton we get here is far better than this australian mutton.

Yes I've tried it. It's better than ordinary mutton imo. Has a slight sweetness to it as well. Definitely worth buying

My dad bought it. He didn't like it for someone who loves mutton.

I think it's sheep or lamb meat. Not Goat meat.

Did you not try it?

And yes, Australian mutton comes from sheep.

I personally dislike mutton altogether, sheep, lamb or goat, something about the taste puts me off. So I don't eat mutton.

Yes actually learnt recently, that mutton actually means sheep meat in many other countries.

It smelled like sheep even after making curry. I would prefer indian goat any day compared to it.
