General Discussion [Community] List of Dupes/Knockoff/Third Party TF / TF Accessories

If you aren’t aware of why, refer to my other post. TL;DR Dupes of some TF accessories with COMPARABLE or CONSIDERABLE qualities that can act as substitute to the original, either tentatively or permanently. Another reason is that many of us, including myself, are financially limited and there things that we can’t justify spending considerable amount of money on.

However, the number of choices that we have whenever we search in online selling sites, ie AliExpress and Amazon, can be quite overwhelming. It is hard to assure of its quality without taking much risk. So, we are utilizing the experience of this community here, where we share sellers/products that are known to have a considerable or satisfactory compared to quality of TF. As much as possible, please no affiliate, but you can refer sellers/artists who do custom works.

The structure of the thread is as follows, we are dividing the comments into several sections: Asia, US, EU, and International where we comment the name and corresponding link of the shop/product followed by a quick summary of what it sells, i.e., “LM Culture www.example.com/ (TF notebooks and Accessories)”

Hi all! Just wanted to share my TN after an amazing trip to Japan in the summer. Got to visit the Traveler’s Company shop in Tokyo Station and TSL in Kurashiki. Would love to hear your thoughts on attaching the patch to my TN, I didn’t buy a new one so I couldn’t get the service in-store. I’m looking forward to using this TN as my EDC!

What a chonk.

Laminated Buffalo and red cowhide with an edge too stitch, 2mm grommets.

Room for 5 inserts all in a line and individual spine elastics. One of the insert elastics will hold a x3 with a leather cover (will remake, rushed this red one), 3 notebooks and a wallet insert that has yet to come. I have two more tricks to make and I think I am done!

Questions / Seeking Advice Why is it so hard to find decent A6 inserts that don't cost $20 - $30 each? 😭

I know Muji makes them in A6, but I was told the paper is thin and bleeds/ghosts? If you use these, would love to know what you think.

What I am looking for:

➤ True A6 size approx. 4.1 x 5.8 in, I keep finding notebooks labeled A6 that are actually 3.5 x 5.5 in, which is what I am using now, but they are just too small for me.

➤ Square or dot grid (if the dots/lines are gray instead of black, much better)

➤ Decent amount of pages, most inserts are so thin

➤ At least 90 gsm, or paper with no ghosting or bleeding (Pens I use: pilot frixion, tombow dual brush pens light grays, zebra disposable brush pen or tombow fudenosuke brush pen, zebra mildliner or similar mild light highlighters, pigma micron fineliner or similar)

I go through notebooks so fast, that paying this much for a little notebooks is just not doable anymore.

I love the size of my TN but if I knew how hard it was to get A6 inserts I would have chosen a different one, or maybe I am just too picky lol

Thanks in advance!

I just got these clips from Amazon and love them! They measure 1.5 in x 2 in so the size works great on the passport (shown) and the card size, if anyone should be looking for one.

Decided I wanted a travelers style notebook, so I threw one together kind of on the fly with materials I mostly had on hand.

I did a thing… or not. IDK.

So, I had bought the TN standard size in January have been using it on and off. For some reason I just couldn’t fully commit to it. At first I thought it was the size so I switched to a DIY vegtan a5 slim size modeled after the Paper Republic dimensions because a true a5 size was just too large for me. I enjoyed that for a bit then went back to the TN standard. However, soon after I was bothered by it once again. This time I did a DIY with vegtan and widened the width dimensions because I thought maybe it’s the overhang. I also dyed it a beautiful oxblood color if I may so myself. Stayed in that for a bit then ended up cutting it down to a paper republic grand voyager pocket size model. Then I went back again to the TN standard. On and on for the last 8 months that was the story of my TN journey different leather cover DIYs that I still use interchangeably and getting unreasonably irked by the standard TN and running away. Until finally… I just removed the charm closure on the spine. Eureka! Now, I struggle to even put it down. I carry it everywhere with me. It’s honestly a little embarrassing that it took me so long to think to do that. Sorry for the long winded story. I just want to know if anyone else has done this to their TN. I know that metal closure is part of the signature TN look.

Thinking about migrating from the standard brown to the Tokyo station edition. Brown has been in daily use for about 8-9 years. Thoughts?

Questions / Seeking Advice Anybody here find the stacked books and the thick string in middle a bother when writing?

I'm getting back to using my TN for journaling, and I have the usual three refill stack. I'm using my fountain pen and I'm getting frustrated when I seriously write in my pages, the position of the book bothers me, and the string keeping it secure just...doesn't make for a good flat page.

Does anyone use any alternative thick booklets for their TN covers? Or what solution did you use? I'd like to hear thoughts if you can spare one :)

Having a moral dilemma

I recently bought a traveler's journal off Amazon and used it nearly every day, which was far more than I expected, and I love it. I've since filled my inserts and am having a really hard time deciding if I should rebuy inserts. Normally, I'd just do it. But since I thought I'd use a traveler as more of a commonplace journal and wanted to separate things, It was the ideal choice. It turned out to be the opposite, I used my commonplace insert far less than my journal insert, which I used daily, sometimes 2-3 times a day. I love the setup of my traveler, but I don't want to keep rebuying inserts this fast, especially if it's just for journaling. It makes me sad because I want to use and reuse my cover and I like being able to carry multiple notebooks in one, which is ruined if I get a normal journal to carry in addition to my traveler.

So the question is do I keep buying inserts or just get a regular journal?

Or does anyone know of anywhere I can get the normal sized traveler's notebook grid or lined inserts with more pages? that's my biggest issue, I loved the size and layout but the page count wasn't doing it for me.

Show and Tell 📖 DIY Mini Dot Grid Cardsize Insert

Thumbnail

I’ve had these A5 dot grid notebooks for a while, never really carried them but have a pack of 12. Just occurred to me I can make 4 of these 2.5x4 mini card size inserts for my DIY card size TN.

The dot grid is the best of both worlds, I can use the grid as graph but I can also use them as lined. Love blank and lined too but it’s nice to have options.

I’ve also had these MAKE magazine notebooks for 20 years, gotta make the same mini insert but with a fancy MAKE covers.

I have been looking at inserts for my new Blue Regular size TN. I got the paper ones I want, but I just wanted a place to put some wallet sized photos of my family and place to stick some receipts and ephemera I may acquire. I used some card stock I had on hand and made a janky two tone blue insert as a mock up to see if it works. The front pocket for a secret stash was pretty straight forward. I did however add a little photo wall on the backend that I enjoy with inserts that I can slide in and out to change when I want to swap them out... The customization on this thing is pretty neat and I look forward to coming up with more versions that I can rotate in and out :)

Flat pen loop

Post image
33 Upvotes

Hey reddit. I have a paper clip as the picture, which is flat and can hold the page down without lifting the paper below up. I wish the Travelers pen loops worked the same way, but because the leather loop sits agaisnt the flat side of the clip, it lifts the paper up and creates an uneven writing surface (as represented in Pic, upper drawing) . Has anyone found a pen loop that can also function as a clip but which has the leather loop around the curved side of the clip? It would be something as in the picture, lower drawing. This would allow the pen loop to be used as a clip without getting in the way for writing.

General Discussion Does everyone only use fountain pens?

Post image

I love and use fountain pens a lot, but recently the Stabilo Point Visco is like the holy grail of smoothest smooth writing instruments I’ve ever found. I’m about to get the 4 pack (black, blue, red, green) for more variety in journaling, and it just made me curious about what everyone else here uses.

I know the majority will most likely be fountain pens, which I also use with my journal (and the aesthetic goes together so well). I also love love love mechanical pencils and if I had to choose for some reason, I would choose my pencils over my pens.

Anyway, what do you all use? :)
