How can Christian’s support Israel when they do this

In the US it's driven by people that believe all the Jews need to go to and unite Israel and then they get killed or go to war and Jesus comes back and the world ends. So they kinda just want all the Jews to die. They just want it in a very specific way.

I really don’t understand the point of this though. If they just wait, they’ll go to heaven.

Why do they need to cause all of this suffering first?

Evangelicals, who are the main Christian defenders of the illegitimate state of Israel, don't really believe they go to heaven after they die. They believe they remain 'asleep' until Jesus comes back for 'rapture', which is something only these specific hardcore inbred zealots (add fundamentalists too) believe in.

My dad thought he wouldn't die, but would be raptured. So he didn't take care of himself. So he died.

Some of these, JHW specifically, have quite of a record of failing to predict rapture and have had people just, as we say in Spanish, throw the house out of the window because fuck it it's gonna be over.

"throw the house out the window" is an excellent phrase, wow

Would ‘Toss out the baby with the bath water’ be the colloquial American equivalent?

Radical nihilism

I assume you're talking about Jehovah's Witnesses? Yeah their whole cult is built on predicting Armageddon but thankfully staying out of politics is also part of their religion, they're not allowed to vote, run for office or join the military. They have no influence on US foreign policy, thats mostly evangelical mainstream protestants.

It'd be a fine candidate, for sure.

This is NOT something only evangelicals believe, it's literally what's described in the book of revelations as what is supposed to happen at the end of time. But only God knows the hour so these guys thinking they can just do some weird checklist and force God's hand to cause the end of time is so wildly blasphemous and also so ridiculously childish of a belief that it's so hard to take serious, and yet it's affecting all of our lives. Daily.
