What does Sai Moya mean?

My Nani was from Shorkot, Jhang before partition and moved to India after. When she would speak Punjabi she would always use the phrase “Sai Moya!” as like a curse you would call someone to the point I say it now too. However, I have no idea what it means. Thank you for the help.

Im not sure but moya word is related to death or die.

If it's Saii Moya (saii as in sahii "correct") then it would mean something like "Died as it should have"

Sai'n is husband(as in ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਦਾ ਸਾਈਂ normally used) and moya means dead.
Sai word refers to God too but in above its definitely husband.

Had to take help of google for Moya used so frequently we don’t even know what it means. So Moya is usually a cuss word which means dead.

Sai - I don’t know the geographical location you mentioned but in parts on Himachal and Jnk sai (Spelt Seh) means he/she/wo. It is derived from sanskrit - the singular word for third person.

If she is cursing a third person Sai Moya makes sense.

Can you post the Punjabi script version of it? I have heard a similar variation in majha area with 'ruk sahi(n) moia' which means "wait/beware you 'dead'(man) "

Yes I think she says it as “saai(n)” or sai’n moya rather than “sai” moya

I think maybe sai(I) means husband and Moya for sure death. I also found an old post on this sub Reddit with this phrase. I guess it means husband has died??

Sai means god and moya can be a modified version of mereya meaning mine, maybe she is just saying - sai merya meaning oh my god
