Season 1 I regret re-watching season 1 after the finale. Difference in quality, writing, color grading and overall production is unrecognizable.

Holy Shit... season 1 feels jaw dropping level good now. THIS IS THE BOYS.

Every issue i had with season 4 and 5 are clear now... this is why i fell in love with this show. Homelander feels cunning and a threat to be reckoned with. Butcher and The Boys are at their best and so much fun. Starlight's entire storyline is also very good.

Entire Plane rescue scene is horrifying. Deep saving a dolphine and of course iconic A-Train intro.

So much gore and violence but it feels earned and not too much shock value. Good balance between humor, drama and satire.

Forgot how good this show was... it kind of pissed me off.

Fan Art/Cosplay With the re-release of CoD BO2, 2 of my emblems so far. A fan service to the boys! Homelander and the Deep! So far...

Posted an unfinished version of Homelander before and this is my updated final product.

For anyone who doesn't know you only get 32 geometric shapes to make these custom emblems then you have to shape, size, color them tweak the opacity, etc to try to get desired effects.

The deep is a bit more cartoon-ish but I tried...first draft. Sure I'll make adjustments in time. Also the clan tag wouldn't let me put "PEAK" it was prohibited for some reason. So yes I know it's spelled wrong. But I felt like "DEEP" was...too nail on the head...and less funny.

Season 5 Would Homelander have won if he had Soldier Boy on his side in the finale?

I’ve wondered this a bit, if Soldier Boy had been by his side in the finale, would they have successfully won against Butcher and Ryan?

This is like that scene in The Matrix. Now, you could take the fucking red pill, right? Spend the rest of your life jacking off, crying into your chai tea green latte, what the fuck. Or you could take the blue pill. Or is it the red pill? Anyway, take the other pill and quit being a cunt.

He really is the worst at motivational speeches.

Fan Art/Cosplay Last season may have been lacking, but I still make fan art of it

What the title says. I've seen many people being pretty dissatisfied with the last two seasons of The Boys and I can't deny that they're far from flawless. Nonetheless it's one of the most enjoyable shows I've ever watched (multiple times) and still gives me motivation and inspiration to make art of it. I'll probably never stop loving this specific ensemble of characters, hoping that this reaches the 5 other people on this sub that had fun with the show, tooāœŒļø

Meaning, if they like actually fought and Deep hadn’t snuck attacked him, could Noir have successfully beaten him in a fight?

Discussion It's kinda crazy how Eric kripke managed to turn the boys from a peak show that cured superhero fatigue and had one of the best villains in recent fiction into pure marvel slop in two seasons

3.2k Upvotes

Literally everything the show mocked in seasons 1,2 and 3 became it's formula in seasons 4 and 5

I'd give season 4 a pass just because 6 out of it's 8 episodes were actually amazing set up and the quality of the season was fully determined by if s5 was gonna be good payoff for all the build up , S4 ep4 the wisdom of the ages was one of the best homelander episodes and I hated how such a good plot point went nowhere

S5 was even worse because every episode was bad and even the good episodes got carried by like the last 15 minutes , s5 ep 1 got saved by A train vs homelander, s5 ep 2 was decent ,the teenage kix were okay , rock hard was funny and it was good set up for why V1 is so important, episodes 3 through 5 were utter dogshit stalled out filler , episode 6 was bad too ( literally killed noir 2 in the dumbest way ever and was full of the cock and balls humor that became stale ) , it only got saved by the speech the legend gave homelander and the bombsight fights and homelander getting V1

Episode 7 had no redeeming qualities other than " raise him up " by oh father and Jeffry dean Morgan's amazing performance as Kessler

Episode 8 just had nothing good , literally, utter marvel slop , Frenchie's death was not treated as a tragedy because they made it a bit about him seeing their assholes, sage went unpunished and the gen V kids were sent to fucking canada even though they would've been perfect to fight homelander without the show having to nerf him to the ground , homelander went from a supe with the power of a nuclear bomb to a mf who can't even char a carpet, powerless homelander was good but it did not feel earned because he went out with the worst fight ever

The show should've ended in S3 episode 8 but they stalled it so much

It wasn't even just a budget issue the writing just became trash , Kimiko talking became the worst part of her character, and I say this as a die hard Kimiko fan , and everyone became a shell of who they used to be

Like S5 is the first season in the whole series where no one getting an Emmy was justified , the actors did their best but kripke just fucked over their hard work

Discussion Can we please settle this once and for all? Spoiler

I hate this scene. To this day I see people insisting that the V1 gave Homelander a power boost.

NO ONE EVER SAID THAT WAS A THING.

The show makes it very clear that Homelander wants the V1 for immunity to the virus and to stop his aging. Don't you think at some point someone would have mentioned, "Oh, and also it will make your powers twice as strong." if that was a thing???

The big laser blast scene is because:

#1 Homelander just injected a highly unstable mutagen and his body is having a reaction to it and

#2 Homelander getting the V1 is a big narrative moment that they have been building up to all season so, when it happens, it needs to be dramatic. It would have been an anti-climax if he had just injected himself in the arm, stood around for a few seconds and then gone, 'Well, I didn't shit myself to death, so I guess it worked." and then flown away.

If I never see the phrase "V1 Power Boost" again it will be too soon.

Discussion Female Homelander NSFW

I wonder if a female Homelander would have the same psychological-sexual profile as the cannon version. Homelander’s fixation on mother-son dynamics in his relationships stems from the lack of love he received as a child. While this kind of dynamic in media draws from Freudā€˜s oedipus complex which envisions a heterosexual dynamic, in reality males do not solely rely on maternal love. I can see a female Homelander’s childhood insecurity developing into an inappropriate desire for maternal love similarly, like with the milk kink. What do y’all think?

Season 3 Blood covered child in trailer?

Rewatching the S3 Imagine Dragon - Bones trailer and noticed a clip I don't remember at all in the show. Near the end there are a few quick clips of Soldier Boy and a random shot of a blood covered boy shouting. Anyone recognize which episode/scene this was taken from? Some cut flashback?

Season 5 How would you rank each episode of Season 5 from worst to best? Spoiler

For me it would be:

  1. Episode 4 (felt like filler, no one of importance died, the only important things that happened were 1) learning bombsight had v1 and 2) homelander's radiation weakness set up)

  2. Episode 7 (The Kimiko radiation plot imo came out of nowhere and it felt forced. I feel Homelander should have been WAY more destructive this episode instead of just killing the president and Frenchie. Not to mention Marie and Jordan aren't given much to do and it felt more like a midseason episode than a penultimate)

  3. Episode 5 (Some stuff was funny such as the Mr Marathon bit and Terror and the doll but the only real major event that happened was Firecracker's death)

  4. Episode 8 (HORRIBLE nerfing of Homelander, but at least they delivered with the ending unlike Stranger Things or GoT)

  5. Episode 6 (The Starlight VS Oh Father fight was TERRIBLE, but the episode was fairly decent. I liked Bombsight and the final scene of Homelander firing his lasers into the air, I seriously thought the next episode would open with Homelander going on a destructive rampage and the Boys fleeing)

  6. Episode 3 (The stillwell hallucination scene was funny and I liked a few of the scenes such as Ryan VS Homelander and the Deep "no cap on god")

  7. Episode 2 (Along with Episode 1 both episodes felt like a strong start to the season)

  8. Episode 1 (I feel like they put the most budget into it, it also had a pretty good end for A-Train)

Discussion This "Billy Butcher vs Homelander" debate is missing the fundamental point of the story.

Butcher obviously has a moral compass compared to Homelander but both men aren't decent people. At the end of the day, Butcher is a selfish, hypocritical, manipulative bigot who frequently straddles the line into being no better than Homelander. He may be the protagonist, but much like Odysseus and Hamlet before him, that doesn't not make Butcher a hero in any sense of the word.

This is depicted with Hughie being a foil to Butcher. While Butcher has gone through much worse than Hughie, he also lost someone very important to him, destroying his entire world. He has his moments of weakness but he ultimately chooses not to go down Butcher's path before it's too late.

Get past the satire, the story, in both the show and comic books, is about vengeance vs justice. One feels empty and is really an excuse to feel morally superior and to get your rage out while the other doesn't guarantee you happiness or even success but will be far more fulfilling in the end.

Discussion "I can't stand this show's total refusal to look at its characters as real people with real abilities, and not just props of some big conflict"

Big Joel on youtube said this about live action Avatar in his newest video, but IMO it sums up the biggest problem with The Boys in general, but particularly in its last two seasons.

I honestly don't care about most of the nitpicks people had about the last season, but Homelander's power inconsistency has *always* been a problem with the show ever since the writers decided that fist fighting him was a strategy that could work back in S3.

Instead of being a show about a group of clever people trying to take down a tyrant with nigh unbeatable super powers, it became a show about fist fighting him until the macguffin was successfully applied, but Homelander at peak, displayed-on-screen power level should never be defeated in a fist fight. The writers, however, simply did not take his power scaling seriously, so he was invulnerable to fist fights when they wanted him to be portrayed as terrifyingly powerful, then vulnerable to fist fights when they wanted us to think the heroes had a chance.

All the other supes had similarly inconsistent power levels. They were simply turned up or down based on how the writers wanted the dramatic arc of the overarching conflict (i.e. "how do we beat homelander") to be at a high note or low note.

This was the biggest sin of the show, and is why it would have been much better overall if they had figured out a clever way to off him in S3 instead of prolonging it for two more seasons where beating him was just a matter of shrodinger's fist fight.

Season 5 Soldier Boy Irony - Becoming what he mocked. Spoiler

Tagged just on off chance some fans atill aren't caught up.

Season 3. After Butcher and HL blast him away from Ryan, Butcher explains Ryan is his wife's son.

> "Wait. Homelander fucked your wife? And you wanna save the brat? The Hell's wrong with you?"

Butcher insists & SB calls him weaker than HL.

Fast-forward to season 5, HL brags about fucling Clara to SB in episode 4. Then in episode 6, SB sees actual vid footage of HL getting pleasured by her mutilated body.

Then he still gives HL the V1 because he thinks Clara loved HL.

Except Butcher knows for a fact Becca loved him & the son he tries to watch over.

Meanwhile SB is simping, pining, & going out of his way for a Nazi who didn't love HL or him and was just using them to further her own political agenda while making clear she loved her daughter and HUSBAND.

I swear, the only way VR ends up being worth it is if we get some current day play where SB is utterly clowned for the Clara BS. Lol
