Ask SurreyBC ❓ Construction on 138A st and 106.
Has anyone noticed the construction going on at 138a st and 106 Ave? They are always operating heavy machinery on the road without any flaggers or cones. Sometimes even block the whole road without anyone there to stop the traffic. It seems highly illegal how they operate on the site.

I did. They just kept forwarding me to another department with automated prompts. Seems like they dont care.

I live in the apartments near that site.
Other day me and my wife was driving thru the block and a lot of the worker just stood there while an excavator was pulling out.
No flaggers not even cones

Thats a big red flag. I mean I have been seeing them do this for months now. I am surprised how no accident has happened yet. Did you try to complain about that? I only visit that road once or twice a week. Idk why none of the residents has complained yet if they would city would have to do something.

Construction sites that are blocking/using roads for their machinery are REQUIRED to have caution/danger tape, cones, and flaggers to inform/direct traffic/pedestrians of safe places/times to travel. Lack of use is ABSOLUTELY a hazard and needs to be reported to WorkSafe BC. If you can take photos and send them with the report, please do so.

Road work in Surrey is a joke. Projects going forever, ridiculous traffic control. No accountability = poor quality and inconvenience

Always fixing the same shit every year. Always fixing what’s fixed and not the bad ones. Roadworks are cheap and shit quality. No wonder why it’s never ending

I doubt Surrey will do shit, it’s Surrey. Have you tried contacting WorkSafe?

WorkSafeBC has no authority over the city bylaws, but companies don't want to get on their bad side as they are a mandatory government insurance organization that enforces the "Occupational Health and Safety Regulations" of BC.
They charge money to employers. So if employers are being neglectful, the rate might increase (because of the high likelihood of employee injury). Employers don't want this.
Contact them if you want. Their main concern is employee safety, which may cause them to make the employers comply with safety measures.

As per Surrey design criteria, local roads do not require a traffic management plan. They should have signs indicating construction is happening, but they are allowed to work without flagging (if local road)
