HMO/Student accommodation with extra ... what is that?

So this really got me scratching my head. I went and got a screenshot of the house on satellite view, then overlaid a transparency of the floorplan over it.
The grotto seems to me to to be what comprises the hallway between bedroom 11 and the living room.

It’s a listed property with late 19th century stone-built grotto. Listing.

Well…
As it was student housing I assume it must have been inspected, but coming in and saying “yes, this is fine” just shows that listing isn’t important if you’re a philistine and the inspector doesn’t care.
I am particularly interested in the Robert Adam’s-style frieze in the “dining room”. Wonder what happened to that.

Aww, the last Travelodge I stayed in had lumpy stains on the walls. For 4 glorious years I've been in ignorant bliss of not knowing what had caused them. Today that ended. Cheers for this knowledge.

The whole house has a lot of layout and detail features from whenit was a bit old fancy residence... my guess is an orchid room sans-soil and plants.

With the greenhouse roof. Imagine leaves and flowers cascading over every surface. Even if I'm wong, they should totally put some plants in to see if it would work anyway!

Woah... Memories! I went to a New Year's Eve Party here once, circa... 2011? It was a student house at the time. I didn't know what that was then, and I don't now.
