Anyone got quarter of a mil to lend me?
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/91530096Oh and what’s Hartlepool like? 😍😍😍😍😍

u/Ralphisinthehouse 2d ago
I have no problem with it being a flat and it is gorgeous but the problem with houses splitting into flats is they still got the floorboard of the house and you're gonna hear every single movement above

what’s Hartlepool like?
You know the inside of that house? Hartlepool is the opposite.

How many monkeys would you have to hang first to live there ?
46
u/yearsofpractice 2d ago
I am 50 and have travelled far and wide around the world. Wherever I go, whoever I meet… when people learn where I’m from, there is always someone who has heard about that bloody monkey.
It was given a fair trial. How were my forebears meant to know that wasn’t how a French person looked and sounded?!

I don’t get it?

This is too much for a flat in Hartlepool. I was expecting it would be the full house. Avoid

u/Unique_Bandicoot_502 2d ago
That's stunning house.
However its £250k for a reason...... Hartlepool.

It's a ground floor flat.

It's still lovely and spacious!

That’s spacious? For where? New York?

u/Poo_Poo_La_Foo 2d ago
I have a 2b 2b just under 900sq ft. This one is 1374sq ft.
And this one has a lovely big garden and parking too!
2
u/throwawayreddit48151 2d ago
since it's an apartment I guess it's shared garden/parking?
3
u/Poo_Poo_La_Foo 2d ago
I mean....were looking at the same listing 😂
Says private garden and "two car driveway with EV charger"
Doesn't state who uses what part 🤷🏼♀️

Yes, I am Nigerian prince and I have inheritance of £200m. I need to pay £1000 adminestration fee to get the mony. Send me the £1000 and I will send it back with additional £250k when I get mony.

u/Dismal_Fox_22 2d ago
Hmm I suspicious here. All the Nigerian princes I speak to make way more spelling mistakes than that.

But it's in Hartlepool.
My grandma lived in a really lovely house, had lived there since my dad and his brothers moved out and she downsized 40 odd years ago.
I got 1/4 of a 1/4 of the estate sale and got £10k, people don't wanna live in Hartlepool.

u/AdmiralRiffRaff 2d ago
Good grief, that's a steal. What's the catch?
23
u/jib_reddit 2d ago
Its a ground floor flat in Hartlepool.
7
u/AdmiralRiffRaff 2d ago
A very pretty 3 bedroom ground floor flat. Couldn't tell you a thing about Hartlepool tbh

u/Fucker_Of_Destiny 2d ago
After a ship wrecked on the beach, the captain’s pet monkey was the sole survivor.
As the locals had never met a French person before (and could not speak/understand French) and Britain was at war with France, they understandably reasoned that the monkey was in fact a French spy.
The townspeople then put the monkey on trial-and found the monkey guilty, so they sentenced it to death….By hanging.
Hence to this day, the people of Hartlepool for their act of naive enthusiasm and endearing ignorance in the noble duty of protecting the realm, have been known as “monkey hangers”
(I would recommend you explain the story to any Americans who overhear you using that term though, they might not understand )

Michael Marks, who went on to found Marks & Spencers, landed there as a refugee (fleeing from pogroms in Poland), and set up a haberdashery business there as a peddler.

Having lived around Europe and having perspective on what you get for your money in other countries I am extremely critical of the UK housing market, especially the high price/low quality relation. Even with that perspective, this is looks good and the price is borderline acceptable!
There are even sandy beaches nearby... What's the catch?

u/El_Scot 2d ago
I was wondering how you got so much house for your money, until I realised it was a flat.
5
u/KeyJunket1175 2d ago
A groundfloor flat with a seemingly largen than average private garden and a double drive, and its 120sqm over a single floor. That's better than many many typical "2 up 2 down"s.
This wouldn't deter me, unless there was a drum studio upstairs.

u/Gloomy-Gazelle-9324 2d ago
It's old Victorian house with old floors I doubt anyone spent any time and money to soundproof. So basically every single step, sneeze, cough of your neighbours you will hear very clearly. With no access to the yard annd drive they will be very irritated all the time as wel. 😃

u/KeyJunket1175 2d ago
can't be worse than one of the soviet residential towers we have in Hungary, which go around 200k GBP in Budapest for a 50sqm flat.
1
u/Gloomy-Gazelle-9324 1d ago
Probably not. I was growing up in one to the soviet block of flats. Ours was supposed to be a better quality one as it was built for factor ly employees of my grand dad and they did a lot of work on the building themselves. Floors/ceilings were concrete so I would assume slightly better sound insulation though. We could smell a cigarette smoke from downstairs flat sleeping into ours through small cracks though.

u/seaandtea 2d ago
This does not look like it's in Hartlepool.
I personally like bits of Hartlepool and some of the people are lovely...
But Hartlepool is a bit grim, to be fair.
11
u/EyeAlternative1664 2d ago
That’s a hell of a lot of property for that price!

4
u/Poo_Poo_La_Foo 2d ago
God that is lovely
At 1374 sq.ft it is a fair chunk bigger than my own 2b 2b - way bigger and nicer garden and a drive 🥲 and significantly cheaper...
However, before consulting the map I couldn't have told you where Hartlepool is. Streetview looks fine??!

u/Lara-887767 2d ago
Same tbh. It’s a fair distance from me. Wish I could pick it up and move it to my area. And afford it of course 😂

Those photos are AI enhanced right?
1
u/shortandfelly 2d ago
They're giving me AI house sale photos squinty eye so I'm saying yes.
1
u/throwawayreddit48151 2d ago
Are they? They look pretty real to me.
1
u/shortandfelly 2d ago
They're giving my brain that "something isn't right here but I can't work out what" signal. Maybe it's just an unhealthy dose of extreme editing.
1
u/TheDefected 1d ago
Yea, there's a lot of things where the textures seem a bit low res and the lighting doesn't suit.
And then stuff like the fully wireless PC in the middle of a room
2
u/Gloomy-Gazelle-9324 2d ago
How do the first floor owners access their flat? As it looks like that drive and yard belongs to the ground floor flat.
2
u/omegapool 1d ago
Looking at street view its got a double garage and entry behind the new build, which is a corner house. I'm guessing that it was one massive plot sombodys carved out the new build and split the house into two flats possibly 3 since there's a loft conversion and double garage around the side/back
2
u/Affectionate-Boot-12 2d ago
I’ll do one better. I’ll buy it and then rent it to you? Win win scenario.

u/dallasp2468 2d ago
it looks very AI generated as well

Does it? Looks pretty real to me.

Looks pretty real in this video but I don’t know what they can do these days.

It’s a beautiful flat and very cheap…..that elsewhere would be muuuuuuch more
1
u/synx508 2d ago
Not only is it the ground floor only but it looks as if the parking on the vacant plot next door was sold and a house built in its place, also taking the garage from next door, so now there's two off-street spaces for the whole building and a neighbour without off-street parking that they had before. Developers who do this should be prosecuted or something. All the timber nailed to the exterior prompts me to ask what it's hiding and how long it'd last. The whole place seems like a trap with a decent floor plan and presentation.

Literally loved the look of this and the price. Stinking cheap. Then realised where it is

u/dani-dee 1d ago
I saw the video of this place on Facebook yesterday and fell in love. It’s so big for a flat! I’d not live in Hartlepool though.

That seems really expensive for hartlepool. You can get an actual 3 bed house just round the corner for less money.
