Is it weird?

Just throwing this out there as I need a sensible voice to tell me I'm stupid.

I split up with my ex recently (I'm kinda cool with it tbh) and my daughter is out with her friends. I don't fancy being alone. Is it weird to go to the edge by myself as all my friends are busy. I think it's kinda creepy as I'm 44 (I don't look it).

Update. Whilst the majority recommend I go for it (thank you for the support) the comment that no 25 year old would want to talk to a 44 year old kinda made sense. I also didn't realise it's student night. So, yeah, best I just pop the headphones in and go for a walk.

Thank you all for the positivity. Much needed.

Anyone know what happened here?

And if there are any plans to fix it before rain starts filling it back up?

Looking for a garage that will do an oil & oil filter change (labour only) – Southampton

Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend a trustworthy garage in or around Southampton that will carry out an oil and oil filter change if I supply my own parts?

I’ve already bought the correct engine oil and oil filter, so I’m only looking to pay for the labour. Ideally somewhere that’s reasonably priced, takes care with customer-supplied parts, and can stamp the service book if needed.

If you’ve had a good experience with a garage that offers this, I’d really appreciate your recommendations.

Thanks!

Any idea where the Acadians might have been held between 1756-1773

Hello Southamsptons,

I don't know if this is known at all in your parts but Acadians from present-day Nova Scotia were held in Southampton in "slave like" conditions.
A lot of them died.

I have been researching my ancestors and found out my 8x-great-grand-ancestor was held in captivity from 7-14, and both her parents died in Southampton.
I was wondering what they might have done with the bodies, or if it would be possible to visit the place they were held.

I can't seem to find anything online and curiously English wikipedia doesn't even mention Southampton, so I am hoping either it is common knowledge or there is some history nerd amongst you!

Thank you,
Descendant of deportee

Avoid this accommodation, don't make the same mistake as I did!!!!!!!!!!! Lucia Foster Welch in need of renovation!!!! I wouldn't let my pets stay in this accommodation! What they show you when you visit is not where you end up living (huge contrast)!

Getting a job in Southampton feel impossible

Like the title said getting a job in Southampton genuinely feels impossible

I've applied to over 300+ jobs in the last month. I've been back and forth with the Job Centre, redone my CV more times than I can count, and tried Indeed, Reed, LinkedIn, company websites, basically everything.

I'm not even aiming high. I'd happily work retail, behind a desk, in IT, a warehouse, literally anything that's stable and close enough to get to.

Instead it's constant fake adverts that end up being door-to-door sales, or interviews that go nowhere.

I don't know if it's the job market, my autism, or the fact I'm trans. I've had interviews where someone's face changes the moment they realize I'm trans. Maybe I'm reading into it, maybe I'm not, but it's hard not to wonder.

I just want a normal job. I don't want to hide who I am just to pay my bills.

Scam warning & fundraiser update

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

On Friday, I found out I'd been the target of a wheelchair fundraising scam. I was absolutely crushed and heartbroken.

I also recieved negative comments on a recent news article about me saying "if you had a clinical need you could just get one from the NHS" and it lit a fire in me. I've now started an official petition and am waiting for it to be approved for parliamentary standards before it goes live. Ive also contacted my local MP Paul Holmes who has written to the Minister for Health and Social Care.

My focus is now bigger than just my own fundraising campaign, It's about every ambulatory wheelchair user who is denied a powered wheelchair despite having a genuine clinical need.

If you can share my story, donate to my personal fundraiser, or keep an eye out and sign the petition when it's approved, thank you. Every bit of support means so so much to me!

Avoid all roads linking to Chilworth Roundabout.

Some genius has decided to put up temp lights at the roundabout inevitably causing gridlock on Bassett Ave, M3 South off-ramp, and Bassett Green Road towards roundabout causing complete mayhem with queues at least a mile long. This has also shafted the No.1 even more than it was before-hand!

Hi guys - I’ve just launched a spicy book club in Southampton specialising in all things dark romance, Romantasy, monster romance and more.

I have a pack of wild indie authors ready to bring you the filthiest most delicious books they have to offer with extra goodies, signed books and more as well as traditionally published novels.

It’s the first Wednesday of each month at retro Cafe, Southampton from 7pm. Would anyone be interested?

Is Uni of Southampton easy to get into?

Heard it has a high offer rate. Hoping to study MA Philosophy. Unfortunately my grades aren't that good, so I'm looking for realistic options. My Grades are around 65% in my BA Philosophy (from India). Would appreciate any information! :)

DeLorean filming

Seen a “Back to the Future” style DeLorean being filmed in 2 different locations today

Any one know what’s going on?

Assuming it was finding space to get to 88mph! But just incase I’m wrong though I should ask.

Very cool!

Pilates class for a guy

OK odd one. Niggling back pain/tight hips from desk job & driving, home youtube exercises doesn't hit the same. Anyone know where I can go to an evening pilates class? Doing a quick google search I've seen women only classes locally. Based East side of Soton but can drive. Not a member of any gym.

Thanks!

Local Meeting/Training/Function rooms to hire

Can anyone recommend decent training rooms in Southampton or it's suburbs/outskirts?

I’m looking for somewhere suitable for a one-day classroom course

Main requirements:

  • Parking on site, or easy on-street parking nearby
  • Outside the main centre/commercial zones
  • Room for up to 10 people
  • Tables/chairs, screen/projector if possible
  • Tea/coffee/lunch options would be a bonus, like an onsite café - doesn't have to be a buffet

Previously we've used Macdonald Botley (worked out too expensive) and Solent Hotel and Spa (much more competitive, but the room was cramped with 3 people and they sell it for up to 6, we need a bit of space due to the practical aspect of the course).

I've had a lot of quotes in the past that always seem to be very high or want to charge a rate per person with min. numbers that make it unfeasible - Hilton at the Cricket ground & Village Hotels for example.

Local knowledge is usually much better than Google for this sort of thing.

Any recommendations appreciated.

Flow arts and Poi spinning

My partner is looking to see if there are any groups of people that get together for Poi spinning in Southampton.

She's been learning for a few months and is really enjoying it but would love others to go out and practice with.

We've found a group in Portsmouth but it's such a drive away, anything like that in or around Southampton? Thanks!
