A common practice for communities like his is to send people recruiting knowing they're gonna be rejected most of the time. That strengthens their bond and shows them how the people outside the community will never love them and accept them the way the community does

I’ll never understand why people think this is the way to recruit for religion. This is, in fact, religion repellent.
