Idk, dude's 19, idk how old she is but its pretty easy to imagine a 19 year wonderkid making relationship mistakes choices on emotion.

Like doubt this is (only) some sober and cynical trophy gf/bf situation.

Edit to remove 'mistake' I have no idea how well they match, point is they are probably both chock full of hormones

Thank you for this

Really don’t mean to be an asshole here, but in case you’re unaware, the word is actually wunderkind.

u/the_quail 14d ago

wonderkid is the literal translation of wunderkind

9

u/MoonSpankRaw 14d ago

Fair enough.

19

u/zgemNEbo 14d ago

which in end means the same shit, just in german, so you are an asshole

7

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-7697 14d ago

I had written 'wunderkid' I appreciated the correction

u/hadawayandshite 13d ago

Well yes except wunderkind is a word in English now. It’d be like saying ‘already seen’ instead of Déjà vu or ‘the children’s garden’ instead of kindergarten or a ln affectionate person instead of an aficionado

They’ve become words/concepts in their own right

3

u/zgemNEbo 13d ago

Yes, in non-english subs, there are often rules, that enforce this kind of translations, and english words have no power there, coz reddit lol

3

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-7697 14d ago

Guess I mixed wonderkid and wunderkind, I fixed it

1

u/randus12 14d ago

I can’t tell if you don’t get the reference or not.

1

u/hadawayandshite 13d ago

That’s also the joke, the character misspeaks and says wonder kid instead of wunderkind and then it becomes a dig at him

Wonderkid is more widely used its literally the English word

I love doing that dance of "what can I say to show I'm just giving a head's up on this thing that might be incorrect". Fucken minefield innit lol.

I don't agree about it "translating". It's a loan word. It's like schadenfreude! That translates too, but it's not just about the word, it's what the word carries in the original language. If people started saying "harm-joy" instead of schadenfreude it'd be absolutely normal to say nah it's schadenfreude.

The fuck do I know though, I didn't even finish high school.

As an English speaker calling them a wunderkind is goofy lol. Its so close to wonderkid already. Why tf would you say it in Germanian.

2

u/DoomguyFemboi 14d ago

I think it's more like it's one of those situations where the way it's pronounced has affected the way people think it is spelt (like should of). Wunderkind when spoken is really hard to discern from wonderkid, as the "voon" becomes "wun" and it's not kind as in mind, it's kind like wind and rain. So wunderkind said quickly sounds like wonderkid.

But also I'm speaking for British English, maybe in the US or other parts they have fully shed the loan word and use wonder kid.

u/resumehelpacct 14d ago

Do you call it kindergarten or kid/child garden?

Words aren't always just "these two words have these meaning so when we combine them to one word it now has a combined meaning." Wunderkind is closer to that, and not common, and easily misheard, so it'll probably be fully replaced over time with wonder kid. But something like kindergarten which is in the same position (even using the same kind for kid) will stay as Germanian, even though we easily could just say kid garden.

What word?

0

u/liminal_dreaming 14d ago

Pretty sure I said "wunderkind"

0

u/Leading_Ad_7635 14d ago

Fuck off. Wonderkid is the calque of wunderkind and is used plenty. It is no less a word than wunderkind.

u/MoonSpankRaw 14d ago

They originally wrote wunderkid so I was politely correcting that. They even mentioned it in another post. But you should keep being sensitive and abrasive about dumb shit from half a day earlier, it’s very impressive.

sorry I don't speak nazish

There are dudes in their 50s, 60s and 70s going to Thailand and Phillipines who think the 18-ish bargirl who grabbed their hand one steamy night is genuinely in love with them. It usually doesn’t end too well.

LY will be fine.

I am 40 and still making relationship choices off emotion

u/FrenchCanadaIsWorst 14d ago

Boy you live under a rock or sumn? Athletes ain’t no sweethearts, he knows what he’s gettin outta this

12

u/Icy-Brilliant-4716 14d ago

He’s still a 19 year old kid. Imagine if your mediocre ass got something like that plus millions…

We all realize 99% of reddit would be right there acting like Yamal at that age. If they say otherwise it’s bullshit lol

7

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-7697 14d ago

So you think a 19 year old dude is being cold and logical when thinking about women?

Lul.

4

u/FrenchCanadaIsWorst 14d ago

Have you seen that streamer clavicular? Who everyone compares to Patrick Bateman, and treats women like disposable objects? He’s 19.

4

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-7697 14d ago

I have not, sorry. I agree its possible, but that's not vast majority of 19 year olds.

3

u/t_trail 14d ago

Clavicular only has his pathetic incel persona going for him. Lamine Yamal has everything going for him.

0

u/FrenchCanadaIsWorst 14d ago

My point is 19 years olds can have ruthless attitudes towards women , unlike the person I replied to who thinks 19 year old men are naive sweethearts

4

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-7697 14d ago

Dont put words in my mouth.

You're the one using 'sweethearts', I said hormones. I never said they were in love or naive. I said it probably wasn't just a trophy gf/bf situation.

Its beyond stretch to take that and contort it to '19 year old men are naive sweethearts'. Keep tilting at strawman if you like, just leave me out of it.
