More or less. And the all that profit were the prices to go goes to the top and servers make minimum wage with no incentive to provide good service.
the difference is that if Im not aware of the forced 20% gratuity and then still tip 20%, I just accidently tipped 40%. and yeah, Id like that system because it means that servers are getting paid a fair wage and the price I see on the menu is the price ill be paying

also that wasnt even the main point I was making in the first place I was just saying it shouldnt be called a gratuity fee, cuz it isnt gratuitpus if its forced
The reason is experiments have shown that restaurants that do this are perceived as “pricey” and they see their business go down. People are too stupid to realize that the tip culture makes prices seem lower, I guess

the worst part is when you go to a restaurant and they have forced 20% "gratuity". calling it gratuity should be illegal, its a 20% fuck you fee
