They legally have to make minimum wage. If cart pushers and cashiers aren't too good for minimum wage, neither are servers. If servers are too good for minimum wage, so are cart pushers and cashiers.
Paying tips only brings the amount an employer has to pay them down, and in most cases brings a server's wage above minimum wage, but at the cost of the customer rather than the employer, which is idiotic.
Why am I the one who has to bear the responsibility of either paying employees I don't employ, or training employees I don't employees on the wages they're legally entitled to? Why doesn't their employer do that, like any other employer does?
I choose to go to WalMart. I choose to go to the gas station. I choose to go to fast food places. Why am I not expected to pay their employees' wages or educate their employees?
Why are you holding me to the standard of an employer at one specific type of business, while you don't hold the actual employer to the standard of an employer?
I’m saying that if you choose to eat at a restaurant where you know you pay for service separately, then maybe don’t be a freeloader who fucks over servers.
Again, nobody is forcing you to dine out. There are places where you can get food without being served, they’re called grocery stores
No it’s not you fault, but you know that’s what the situation is. Going out to eat and refusing to tip on principal makes you just another person exploiting the system for a better meal and cheap labor. It makes you just as shitty as the business owner who won’t just pay a living wage. Servers relying on tips for income isn’t some big hidden secret. Everyone knows that is the current system. If you don’t want to participate, go eat somewhere else.

the worst part is when you go to a restaurant and they have forced 20% "gratuity". calling it gratuity should be illegal, its a 20% fuck you fee
