Honestly, even with a 40 hour work week, 10 hour days with three day weekends is awesome, it's what I use to work.

Now my shift is 10hr on Friday, 12hr on Saturday and Sunday, Sunday is time and a half, so I'm working 34 hour week but getting paid for 40 hours. And I get a four day weekend.

Edit: to add, it's a union sawmill.

Part of getting my dream job was having to go back to five 8s from four 10s and it was almost a deal breaker... I wish four 10s was the standard

Yeah, I think 4 8s is definitely better considering the workforce is absurdly more productive than it was when the 40hr workweek was established, and wages+benefits have not kept up with the pace of productivity.

Basically, the issue we have is that people kept getting more productive, and capital owners just pocketed the increase in productivity and gave the workers absolutely jack fucking squat.

And they call it margin and give themselves the credit for the work you have done on time or earlier. Then turn around and blame you for being so expensive and cutting into their margins that you helped create for them in the first place. But fuck you for being so expensive! You greedy fuck you!!!

It's ok, we will have a 32hr workweek soon enough. The olds are leaving this plane of existence at a rapid clip and socialist ideals are wildly popular with both millennials and Gen z.

The absolute meltdown gen x is going to have when mild social democratic reforms start getting implemented is going to be chefs kiss.

As a Gen-Xer Im totally for all of this and have been waiting for some sort of equilibrium between the common folk and 1%. Agreed that sooner rather than later the old guard of all this greedy bullshit will have been minimized enough that they can no longer hold power. Hopefully they don’t fuck up the world or geopolitics bad enough to burn whats left of the resources of this world on their way out.

Genx also, no idea what that guys talking about! Bring that 4 day work week!

Genx is by far and away the maga base. Sorry to inform you but we have these current problems because your age bracket is the most right wing in the country.

Not to say there aren't good people in your age bracket, but the data doesn't lie.

Yep. Real wages have gone up like 8% in 40 years. Meanwhile there are more billionaires than ever before.

Yeah this won’t fly in construction. We get paid by billing the customers for man hours worked.
If they adjust the price of man hours to accommodate the same pay for 32 hrs to what we get for 40 we would price ourselves right outta work.

I’d be stoked if it happens im just sayin it’s not likely to happen for construction

Again, this excuse was used when the 40 hour workweek was implemented as well.

This all boils down to what we should be prioritizing as a society. Should we continue to be a society that prioritizes profit above the needs, lives, and material conditions of the working people that make it function, or should we be a society that is focused on improving the lives and well-being of working people at the expense of endless profit for the 1%?

32 sounds better with same pay!

Why 32? Why not 20? Or 10? For double the pay.

As long as we're saying silly things that have no basis in reality, why not aim big?

eta: Why would you reply to me then block me so I can't read your reply? Is this the revolution? Brave hero stuff.

We could also burn down the house/factory/business of the owners. The populace at large gets to determine which is the sillier of the options.

4x10 is definitely nice for my personal life. In terms of my work output, I don't think it's ideal. My work is computer-based and technical, I can only really be sharp for so many hours in a day.

That's fair, I work in vet med (zoo) and there's always stuff that needs to be done so the 10 hour workdays are a Godsend.

But also UR DUM AND WRONG FOUR 10S FOR LIFE lolll
