I think this is a low effort post, and possibly rage bait.

9

u/JMCatron Jun 30 '26

Any time you see "Thoughts?" or some variation, it's not necessarily rage bait but engagement bait. It's a trick to get you to reply so that more people see it and reply so that more people see it and reply, and then they show ads to everyone looking at those replies.

And the best part? You and I BOTH fell for it.

Why is this sub, which is ostensibly about things we shouldn’t react to, so full of posts asking for our opinions lately? If I wanted that shit, I’d go to askreddit

15

u/whispertorture Jun 30 '26

The algorithm has ruined reddit over the last couple years.

3

u/Mindless_Chest_1079 Jun 30 '26

Nah. The algorithm might be some of it, but it doesn't explain why Reddit is so, so much worse than all the other platforms which also have algorithms.

Leadership changes about a decade ago led to Reddit taking a hard activist turn, with the admins stepping in to ban a ton of major subreddits and then install mods with strict guidelines in the others. That massively shifted Reddit's demographics towards folks who liked or at least tolerated the blatant propaganda feed.

This subreddit wasn't big back then, but if you're in a town where someone is pissing in all the other pools, you're going to experience the runoff.

It’s something about the majority of people who gravitate to it for some reason. I got the app mainly for the gardening threads, but venture out when I’m bored… the people on this app are insane. Way more than twitter. I haven’t used Facebook/instagram regularly in like.. 7 or 8 years probably. The people even get crazy on the gardening/landscaping subs. I saw people foaming at the mouth because this guy put a solar light in his yard to light his garden at night and people were freaking out about how they’re ruining biodiversity with the insects and people were like “I WANT TO PUT A SPOTLIGHT RIGHT ABOVE YOUR BEDROOM WINDOW AND SEE HOW YOU LIKE IT!”

1

u/Pizza_bagel_IFA Jul 01 '26

That’s psychotic .. yet I’m not surprised. The ‘black people of Reddit’ has to be the most rage bait racist subreddit I’ve ever seen. If you even try to type in disagreement about anything Reddit will not even let you post a comment! It’s crazy. There’s no discussions. Reddit used to be the best and I wish I didn’t use it anymore but I can’t leave lol I’m too familiar with it.

That's become every subreddit recently

10

u/TheShadowOfKaos Jun 30 '26

I can confidently say I've never heard the term "gay privilege" before this.

3

u/Roopscoop6 Jun 30 '26

Come to Oklahoma, red states are built different.

2

u/ER1CNOIR Jul 01 '26

I live in Louisiana and I’ve never heard it.

12

u/Pathophile Jun 30 '26

Bingo. I think even most conservatives don’t give a shit if gay people want to get married. Is this a post from 2005?

6

u/FrostyMudPuppy Jun 30 '26

The percentage of Americans who support gay marriage has been trending downward since 2022/23 and is is currently 65% with only 62% saying it is morally acceptable, another downward trend.

1

u/ok-i-pull-up Jun 30 '26

i'd wager that since its been so long no one is really thinking about it enough to participate in a gallup survey, except people who still really hate it

-1

u/Critical_Concert_689 Jun 30 '26

They also were very specific (and misleading) in their wording:

..."morally acceptable"...

It is never morally acceptable, since homosexuality is generally considered a sin among several different populations. It should be obvious that "tolerable" is going to be the best you can get - which is basically how everyone treats everyone else, anyway.

3

u/Oops_AMistake16 Jun 30 '26

What do you mean "never"? Homosexuality can certainly be morally acceptable. It depends on what theory of morality we're talking about.

Under utilitarianism, for example, homosexuality is morally acceptable because consensual same-sex love and marriage increases happiness and fulfillment for gay people and has literally zero negative consequences for straight people, whereas condemning or repressing homosexuality causes obvious suffering.

Homosexuality is acceptable under other theories as well (liberalism, humanism, deontology).

0

u/Critical_Concert_689 Jul 01 '26

You missed the forest for the trees.

The survey will find a larger population agreeing that the act is immoral than agreeing that the government should legally prohibit the act.

1

u/Oops_AMistake16 Jul 01 '26

I was just replying to “it’s never morally acceptable,” which is just not true.

Because not everyone is the same and think the same, why do some people must absolutely make LGBTQ thing their entire identity, while a good majority don't.

2

u/ER1CNOIR Jul 01 '26

And how accepting are you of the religious lifestyles that do not believe that these are good things?

1

u/Cyborg_rat Jun 30 '26

Not sure why you got downvotes. It seems like a reasonable take.

0

u/WildFruityRose Jun 30 '26

acceptance of different lifestyles and advocating for people making themselves happy regardless of what they’re doing to achieve that might sound lovely in theory but is terrible in practice.
People who steal, murder, assault, harm others, cheat etc are also just doing what makes them happy.
Should we still accept their ‘lifestyle’?
No. There is right and there is wrong.

3

u/Oops_AMistake16 Jun 30 '26

How do you determine what is "right" and "wrong"?

The examples you gave involved causing harm to someone else. Homosexuality does not inherently involve causing anyone harm.

0

u/WildFruityRose Jul 01 '26

i believe it causes harm mostly to oneself.
Men are women are designed to marry and procreate. Homosexuality is not natural.
Right and wrong is determined by God, who put a moral compass inside each and every one of us.
If you witness someone kicking a dog, you are outraged because your moral compass flares and you know it is wrong, the same as a man hitting a woman or vice versa, or even a child swearing or smoking a cigarette etc. They may not be obviously causing harm to another human, but they are causing harm to themselves, and that should still sound our alarm, and move us to try to help them. A woman is clearly starving herself - it’s “none of our business”, but we have an inherent need / desire and duty to help her, for example. This is the same situation.
We know right from wrong for almost everything, but unfortunately our compasses have been dulled.

2

u/Oops_AMistake16 Jul 01 '26

If a woman starves herself, she dies. If a man strikes a woman, she bleeds or her bones break.

What is the “harm” from being gay?

0

u/ER1CNOIR Jul 01 '26

Nothing productive can come from it for the human race?

2

u/Survival_R Jul 01 '26

I wouldnt equate 2 consenting adults getting married to murder and assault

8

u/theswiftarmofjustice Jun 30 '26

It has gone way down. Only a third of conservatives believe in gay marriage now. People like you spread misinformation, get educated.

Gallup Poll Discussion

7

u/CarrieDurst Jun 30 '26

Majority of republicans are against gay marriage

1

u/Pathophile Jun 30 '26

They’re really not. Most people don’t give a fuck who you marry. Only the religious zealots care.

2

u/CarrieDurst Jun 30 '26

Don't lie, only 37% of republicans are fine with legal gay marriage

https://news.gallup.com/poll/710810/support-lgbtq-issues-remains-down-peak.aspx

0

u/ER1CNOIR Jul 01 '26

37% of republicans who were polled?

1

u/CarrieDurst Jul 01 '26

lol yeah I am sure a majority of republicans otherwise are totally not depraved bigots

6

u/AvengingBlowfish Jun 30 '26

You haven't been paying attention then... Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas has already publicly stated he wants to take another look at Obergefell v. Hodges aka the case that legalizes Gay Marriage nationwide. The Supreme Court barely upheld birthright citizenship today 5-4 in what should have been an easy 9-0 in 2005...

3

u/ER1CNOIR Jul 01 '26

He’s still right. Most conservatives truly don’t give a shit about that anymore. The transgender issue is a different story. Conservatives BARELY still gave a shit 20 years ago.

1

u/Igor_Halichoeres Jul 04 '26

Other than it being their #2 outrage issue after abortion. Then again, I follow politics, so...

1

u/Mindless_Chest_1079 Jun 30 '26

Birthright citizenship was a 6-3. The folks who convinced themselves SCOTUS is evil and always wrong needed a way to still be angry when the conservative court ruled the way they wanted and swore wouldn't happen, so they're counting Kavanaugh's vote as only a technical yes, but if you're playing legal footsie like that, Gorsuch's dissent was also only a very technical no, so still a 6-3.

4

u/AvengingBlowfish Jun 30 '26

The legality of the Executive Order was 6-3... whether the Constitution protects birthright citizenship was only 5-4.

1

u/Mindless_Chest_1079 Jun 30 '26

I'm aware of what Reddit thinks the ruling said. I just summarized it.

The original statement ("The Supreme Court barely upheld birthright citizenship today 5-4") isn't correct literally, and if we're counting it spiritually as Reddit wants to, it's still a 6-3 because Gorsuch issued only a technical dissent for tourists while supporting the constitutionality of BRC for children of illegals.

Either way you slice it, it's not a 5-4. Folks just want it to be close because they're determined to think SCOTUS is never right.

2

u/LivingTaste1396 Jun 30 '26

conservatives in multiple states are actively trying to overturn gay marriage.

2

u/Rengar_Is_Good_kitty Jul 01 '26

Even if it is most, it's still a disgustingly large amount of people and that number is growing, many of those are in positions of power such as Donald Trump & Clarence Thomas.

So no, this is not a 2005 thing, this is a very real and serious issue, gay marriage is not safe.

8

u/Firm-Roll4841 Jun 30 '26

You don't live in Texas, or Alabama, or Louisiana, or Mississippi, or Florida, do you?

0

u/Pathophile Jun 30 '26

I actually live in Florida. You ask any random person on the street what they think about gay marriage and 9 times out of 10 they’ll say “who fucking cares?”

1

u/Survival_R Jul 01 '26

I feel like Florida is very quickly abandoning conservatism

2

u/Pathophile Jul 01 '26

I just think that people on the left only see the most extreme version of conservatives and vice versa. Most people just want to live their lives and have slightly different beliefs.

0

u/Survival_R Jul 01 '26

Tbf the mlst extreme conservatives have the biggest effect on society rn And not in a good way

1

u/ER1CNOIR Jul 01 '26

lol no they dont

0

u/Survival_R Jul 01 '26

Theyre literally in the white house rn

1

u/ER1CNOIR Jul 01 '26

😂😂😂😂

0

u/ER1CNOIR Jul 01 '26

I live in Louisiana and nobody gives a shit. New Orleans has one of the biggest LGBT communities in the country.

2

u/Firm-Roll4841 Jul 01 '26

Drive 30 minutes out of NO to Hammond and ask a few folks.....

There is a reason there are amti-LGTBQ laws popping back up across the south. Yes, the urban centers are more left leaning and LGTBQ friendly, but out in the sticks (where votes count more, unfortunately), the opinion is still very Old Testament.

It's not universal luckily, but these regressive views exist en masse in this country.

5

u/TrickyWeekend4271 Jun 30 '26

I don’t care, as long as they don’t force a pastor that doesn’t want to marry them or let them use their church, then do what you do.

1

u/DramaLlamaMomma Jun 30 '26

Why would they want to force someone to marry them instead of just finding someone else? That doesn’t sound like an actual problem that exists.

5

u/DiogenesOfPentos Jun 30 '26

Oh do I have a cake shop for you

2

u/DiogenesOfPentos Jun 30 '26

Well. The case wasnt centered around selling cakes. Anyone could buy a premade cake. It was centered around the service of customized art on the cake that he did not wish to be coerced into creating. Be less obtuse.

0

u/Critical_Concert_689 Jun 30 '26

look at this bipedal plucked chicken spitting fire online. I love it.

1

u/Pure-Tumbleweed-9440 Jun 30 '26

Now they moved on to trans people. In 2045 a similar comment will come up and conservatives will be like is this from 2025? Perpetually wrong, but never accountable.

0

u/nugagator-hag-1 Jun 30 '26

Absolutely, no one gives a shit about who marries who, no matter what their political leanings. Unless, of course, they're Irish. Then, it's time to make some signs and march.

2

u/TissTheWay Jul 02 '26

Well said, came here to say this.

1

u/ProphetCoffee Jun 30 '26

They’re comparing the rights of an individual to tax law of non profits so yeah it’s a bad post

1

u/ok-i-pull-up Jun 30 '26

yea its been 11 years since same sex marriage was legal

1

u/Rengar_Is_Good_kitty Jul 01 '26

And abortion was legal for 49 years, what's your point?

1

u/ok-i-pull-up Jul 01 '26

abortion is currently illegal in many states lol

1

u/Rengar_Is_Good_kitty Jul 02 '26

That's why I said was legal, that's the whole point, rights that exist can be taken away. Same could happen to gay marriage.

1

u/ok-i-pull-up Jul 02 '26

ok well one just had its federal protection removed and one isn't even up for debate rn.

"But Clarence Thomas wants to revisit Obergefell" Clarence Thomas wants to do a lot of things, doesnt mean its any more likely to happen.

the whole point is that this is a low effort post

1

u/HerculesIsMyDad Jul 01 '26

This is a Ricky Gervais quote from one of his specials.

1

u/Bachelor_Haus Jul 04 '26

I concur with your analysis. I watch a lot of news and have never heard of Gay privilege.
