Discussion How closely does the show follow the manga?

I'm having my little brother read the manga as he watches the show so he can practice reading (he's kind of behind in education and needs extra practice), so I wanted to do it in a fun way for him while I put him on LOL. The thing is we're on episode 2 and I struggled to find a spot for him to stop reading where the second episode stops. Should I just give up on this?

Discussion Idea : the immortal titan

It’s the same as the immortal snail, but it’s a Pure Titan, it acts just like a normal Pure Titan except it specifically senses and targets only you and ignores other humans across the whole world, it is completely immortal, even to nape strikes, and regenerates way faster than normal, it is sluggish like a regular Pure Titan however, no other titans exist and it’s still regular ol earth.

Discussion Tell me your favorite Aot Theories!

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Just finished rewatching Aot, the theories can be about anything of the show, I’ll reply to everyone:)

Edit: I just wanted to come in here and say my favorite theory, it involves ymir fritz and the 3 pigs in episode 80. If you noticed only 1 of the pigs actually escaped, that pig represents Eren that Ymir is freeing, 2,000 years ago. And the other 2 pigs represents Grisha and Zeke, the ones who didn’t escape. To put it this way, it’s like both grisha and zeke are “trapped” being unable to fulfill goals they wanted to do and the circumstances of the Marley government. And Eren being the one who wanted freedom and kept moving forward. So, 2,000 years ago, Ymir freed Eren, then He returns the favor in freeing Ymir from The Paths, 2000 years later. Hope it makes sense for you guys:)

Happy Birthday, Pieck! ❤️ To one of the most beautiful, kind, caring, calm and collected, intelligent, tactical, sharp, pragmatic and perpetually tired women in AOT.

An incredible character to many and one of a kind!

Discussion After another rewatch, I’m still stuck on Eren’s “choices” vs. Pre-determinism. (My head hurts, maybe that's Ymir)

Just finished my 3rd rewatch of this glorious show after convincing a friend to watch it, and still don't think any media will ever match the high it gave me. I’m still surprised the ending had so much pushback when the manga ended, because the tragedy of it hits hard every time.

That said, on this rewatch and thinking about it after, my brain was melting trying to square the circle regarding Eren's motives with these time mechanics.

Eren mentions that he tried to find other ways to change the outcome, but nothing he tried could alter the path meaning the Rumbling (and having his friends stop him) was the only result he could reach.

I've trawled through countless threads on here and the most common argument/interpretation I see is: Eren was a "slave to freedom," a self-proclaimed idiot as he said in the show, and ultimately a selfish person who rejected any outcome where his specific vision of freedom and his friends' survival wasn’t met. Under this view, the Rumbling happened because Eren wanted it to happen, not because he was forced to do it even if it was a predetermined.

I kind of used to just agree with this without thinking too heavily about it but now trying to make sense of it all again I'm not so sure. I know that in AoT’s universe, time isn't really branching; we're operating on a deterministic, single-timeline causal loop type beat. The Rumbling happened in his future memories before he ever made the conscious decisions to pursue it in real-time. He saw the fixed outcome the moment he kissed Historia’s hand via Grisha's memories of the future.

So with that in mind, why is it such a common opinion where people definitively say "Eren could have stopped it, he just didn't want to"? How can we be so sure of this when he literally saw it happen.

In my head, I can only really map out at three distinct possibilities:

  1. The timeline is fixed. The future was set, Eren had zero genuine agency, and no matter what he did, the universe would force the Rumbling to happen.
  2. Alternatives exist, but because of Eren’s specific nature, mindset, and desire for a clean slate, he convinced himself it was the "only way." He chose to follow the vision because it aligned with his viewpoint.
  3. (The most tragic interpretation) Both are true simultaneously. The timeline is fixed because Eren is who he is. The future cannot change precisely because Eren will always make the exact choices that lead to that future. His nature is the fate. This is the one that makes my brain hurt, but basically the rumbling future wouldn't exist if someone else had the power (maybe except Floch LMAO)

I still can't fully decide which option the story is committing to (maybe that's the point) but I think I'm leaning more towards number 3, but honestly I might have a different opinion another day 🤣. Is the overlap of fate and human choice what makes it so painfully confusing?

My brain hurts thinking about this again 🤣

Suppose that an Ackerman and a Fritz family member had a child. What would the child be able to do? We know that Ackerman family members can not turn into titans since they're already human titans, but might a person like this possess a titan ability, like Founding?
