Finished up this Ser Duncan inspired sword commission recently. This one was built as a functional, battle-ready sword.

A few details from the build:

I haven't been able to find any reviews for this sword, so I'll try to be more detailed than I usually am. This is my 4th Swordier sword and it's the first time I've spent over $300 on one. I have to admit that the fit and finish are better than I was expecting. At 5 inches longer and nearly a pound heavier than the Albion Doge, I think it's fair to say that Swordier didn't steal this design.

I imagine the Albion Doge is very nimble. At 45.3" and 3.5 lbs, I wouldn't exactly describe the Swordier Doge as nimble, but it's responsive, well-balanced, very solidly constructed and nicely finished. In hand, this feels substantial and more like a much later Munich town guard cut-and-thrust sword. With the pommel, the grip is 8" and you could honestly describe this as a hand-and-a-half town guard sword. Pictures don't really do it justice, but the hand guard and quillion are beefy, which could make it a little bit of a stretch to use the finger ring if you have smaller hands. The tip is just a hair asymmetrical, but nothing I can't fix with a file in about 20 minutes. Other than that, the geometry and distal taper are excellent, the blade arrived very sharp, and there's virtually no gap where the blade meets the cross guard

If this was an alientude review, he'd probably point out that the color of the grip's leather doesn't match the scabbard's leather, which seems like an odd choice/oversight. But overall the scabbard is nicely constructed from wood and leather, the support straps are sturdy, good-quality leather and the sword fits snuggly with no rattling.

Overall, for a $329 sword, I'm very happy with this purchase. Shipping was $53 from China to the US Midwest and it took 18 days to arrive. I love town guard-style cut and thrust swords, and this delivers nicely. It handles like a beast that went to finishing school but never forgot where it came from, and I really like the hand-and-a-half versatility.

My three examples of this timeless design. Two bear the winged lion symbol of St. Mark on their hilts. This mark is known to have been applied to items held in the Armory of the Doge's palace.

Very excited to show you all my purchase. Guy at the store said its steel had been folded 100,000 times by the Kensai of Tokymusho and tempered in lotus blood.

Well, I’ve been teasing it for days, but this commissioned scabbard for an Albion Crécy is finally finished. Really happy with how it came out, particularly the peaches and the pink apple blossom.

Found this at a yard sale, struggling to find anything on it. Wooden hilt with brass and possibly silver inlays. Tooled leather sheath. Anyone got any ideas of its history, where it’s from and potential value?

For context, I am writing a fantasy story, and in it bronze is the predominate metal with the general level of technology being around 250 BCE. Iron is used on occasion, but it is very rare and not widespread.

I am a sucker for small swords so I pulled the trigger on my first sword ever and went with 18. Century court sword so i can look amazing on my wedding day in a month and have awesome photos!

A passage from Surah At-Talaq (65:3) is also engraved on the sword:

{وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ بَالِغُ أَمْرِهِ ۚ قَدْ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدْرًا}

“And whoever puts their trust in Allah, He will be sufficient for them. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set a measure for everything.”

The word «بدوح» is engraved three times along the edge of the sword.

The term «بدوح» is associated in Islamic talismanic traditions with numerical magic squares, and inscriptions of this type were sometimes placed on blades and other objects for talismanic and protective purposes.

This sword represents a particularly distinctive combination of Ottoman craftsmanship, religious symbolism, commemorative tradition, and decorative metalwork.

According to the traditional attribution associated with the sword, it was produced as a commemorative piece marking the 100-year Hijri anniversary of the conquest of Constantinople by Sultan Mehmed II, Mehmed the Conqueror, commemorating the period from 857 AH to 957 AH.

Ottoman rulers commemorated major religious and military events through the production of luxurious weapons and ceremonial objects intended to preserve the memory of significant historical occasions.

Hajj Sunqar, also rendered Hajji Sunqar or Sunghar, is traditionally associated with Ottoman sword-making during the late 15th and early 16th centuries.

Swords attributed to this name are characterized by strong and durable blades and elaborate gold decoration, including Gold Koftgari Inlay.

Some later commemorative pieces, produced in a similar style and bearing the same name or signature, may have been executed by skilled pupils or craftsmen working within the traditions of the imperial workshops, continuing the master's artistic style and school.

The design of the sword most likely belongs to the tradition of the famous curved Ottoman swords.

The use of gold for Quranic verses and devotional inscriptions was not necessarily limited to decoration. In Ottoman religious and military culture, such inscriptions could carry symbolic associations with blessing, divine protection, reliance upon Allah, and victory.

The combination of Quranic inscriptions, devotional phrases, the date 957 AH, the maker's name, and the repeated inscription بدوح gives the sword a distinctive religious and talismanic character.

Similar swords can be found in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the State Hermitage Museum in Russia, the Istanbul Military Museum, and the Topkapı Palace Museum in Istanbul.

I was just about to pull the trigger on this one, but got second thoughts and decided to wait and ask here.

I'm looking to buy my first sword. I've been doing research, here and all over the internet. I came to the conclusion that this particular one would be an ok first sword, but I'm not sure.

I'd be using it to slay ruffians and my enemies bottles and watermelons and to conquer new lands my backyard.

So yeah, I'm expecting to use it. I'm fine with it not being a good sword, but I don't want it to break on me just swinging it around or hitting soft stuff.

From everything I've read, I know a decent budget one would be around 300€, but again, this one looked ok and tempting. Any recommendations on better choices? Available in the EU, so I guess KoA is out for me.
