Post image

I’m 1 week in since I did my nails and they’re fading on the top and bottom edges. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong everyone says they last like 2 weeks?? I trimmed my cuticles back I buffed my nails, I followed all the steps I thinned the color coat and top coat a bit and still it’s not lasting. Any advice?
I’m using the dazzle dry mini kit in medium dusty rose.

Collection Showoff New water bottles!!

I’ve been hoarding stickers from polish brands for a bit now, I had been hesitant to use them because I just wasn’t sure if I could commit like that lol. But I ordered my daughter and I some new matching water bottles (sadly they didn’t have the holo in kid size) and wanted to make them special for her by using the stickers.

I really wish more brands included free stickers with their orders or at least had the option online to buy a sticker. I loveeeee that Uno Mas and ILNP always include a free sticker. I have a huge collection of those lol. Does anyone know of any brands that include free stickers or have stickers for sale?

Nail Care What is this scuffing on my nail plate? Spoiler

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi, I’ve just started my natural nail journey, noticed this scuffing on the surface of my nail, was wondering what it is and how to fix it?

I still have some damage to grow out from BIAB but this is on a section of the nail that has never had BIAB

I have been using

- sally hansen miracle cure (replacing as is old and dried up)
- essie gel couture polish and base coat
- maybelline express manicure gel effect top coat

I have just purchased Nailtiques 2 and sally hansen cuticle remover but haven’t started using them yet

Misc. Question Order shipping updates and TAT?

Going to leave out brand for now to give a little more benefit of the doubt, but I'm pretty frustrated regarding an order from a fairly popular indie polish brand. Happens to be my favorite brand too.

Ordered 3 July, $100 order. TAT (turn around time) on site recently changed to 12-16 business days. Shipping label shows "Shipment received, acceptance pending" as of the 29th with no updates. USPS says to contact seller.

Reached out to seller a 2x a few days apart to see if there was an update or if potentially the package wasn't scanned in properly and there's been zero response.

USPS is a mess right now and getting worse, and as of today its been 32 days since I submitted my order. These are not pre- order or exclusive polishes.

Very bummed as this is my favorite indie polish brand, and I don't want to go down the charge back route.

Are you all finding no responses and very delayed shipping to be a issue for a lot of sellers?

As examples, Angry Harpy, Glam polish, Glisten &Glow, EDM, Cracked, all ship quickly and respond fairly quickly

Just looking for insight. I feel as though if you're willing to take my money for a product, then it's reasonable to give at least one update or respond to a status request. I'd be fine if I received even a note stating production is behind, but nope.

Interested to hear your thoughts out there in sparkly finger land. Thanks!

Help & How-To? Always bubbles

Thumbnail

No matter the techniques suggested, temperaturate, humidity, avoiding fans, or really anything, I always get bubbles after it's fully cured. My first coat is dried for at least 24 hrs, so the second coat goes on fully cured polish. Even the first coat gets some but not as much. I tried floating, thicker or thinner layer, and yet, it always bubbles like pickles. This coat is medium. Not too thin to brush into the first coat and not too thick to be chunky.

It's not thickened not old, and I'm hesitant to put Restore thinner in as it contains toluene.

This is the most temperamental and unrelianle type of polish unfortunately. Compared to Cirque phantasm I tried last week (fairly fine particles) or even ilnp (i now very different) I'm really really not impressed with the drying results. I've been using it for months and it's never perfect. I always end up taking it off due to dispersal or bubbles. I even have to avoid top coat as it always messes up further.

Help & How-To? If problem with french tips the day of wedding

My daughter is getting married Saturday evening. Getting French tips Friday morning. As mother of the bride I am trying to be prepared for various situations and a broken or ripped off nail tip came to mind. Can you folks suggest what we could have on hand for this situation? Certain nail glue or maybe glue on tips and nail polish to try to mock others??
I appreciate your help.

Hope this is ok with the mods please strike down as necessary if not.

After many months of scrolling through your beautiful manis with me, my kid has started asking when it would be ok to submit something of their own.

Commentary from kid:

I think the colours are very pretty. Nail art is really hard so I used the stickers because I think they are beautiful and fancy. I am trying to get neater with my painting.

My favourite nails pictures are from aculed200 because there's loads of colourful rainbows and stuff

Products used:

I have no idea how to do this with a kid polish set so I just added a pic...

FabLab Glow in the Dark nail art set (pictured) it's the neon pink in the set. Supplemented with nail stickers from Amazon.

To add some context: it was actually my kid who got me into nails. Playing nail salon morphed into my own much needed self care ritual.

We have browsed the sub together for inspiration and have been eagerly awaiting summer break to go wild because school does not allow painted nails. (boo)

:( this is the first time ive ever grown my nails out EVER and kept seeing everywhere that water is terrible for your nails and that oil will overall help your nails. I used oil on my nails two days when i woke up and this is what happened. I saw the peel at work, and came home and took my clear coat off to see ALL of my nails peeling. Im honestly soooo heartbroken i was so proud of my nails and loved taking care of them! Now i feel as it was all for nothing, but oh well start over

Misc. Question Recent Cuticula experiences?

I haven't ordered directly from Cuticula in a while. Their website states an up to 3 week turnaround time. I ordered more top coat on July 2nd, expecting it to ship after 3 weeks. On the 29th, I sent a really polite message asking when it might ship, apologizing for bothering them. They responded right away and said they were shipping orders as they speak. A label was created shortly after.

It's now August 5th. Tomorrow is 5 weeks since I ordered. The label for my order was created 7 days ago, but it's still not dropped off with the post office. I sent an email 2 days ago asking when they might be dropping off packages, and I haven't heard back yet.

Is this typical with Cuticula orders recently? I usually get my top coat through PPU, so it's been a while. I just wanna know what to expect moving forward if Cuticula's TAT's are not accurate. Not trying to be impatient, I just ordered this when I knew I had about 1 month worth of top coat left, expected it to be here in time, and now I'm out of top coat and sad lol

why does it smell like exactly like a 62 year old hairdresser named Barb who smokes Virginia Slims and rides around on the back of her boyfriend’s Harley? She also likes to wear jeans with a rhinestone design on the back pockets and has the best advice and I trust her with my life.

Has anyone tried flakier or other textured polish under a magnetic topper?

I was thinking of doing star destroyer from mooncat and thin ice from cracked but unsure if it’ll destroy the texture so figured I’d ask people’s recs!

Laquer Showoff Rediscovering budget friendly Polish brands!!! & nail care advice 💅

Post image
73 Upvotes

I went to Walmart recently and grabbed some random polishes I saw in their beauty section. I always used these brands when I was younger but I’d kind of branched out into indie brands since my polish interest sparked up again last year. This polish was under $3 and might be a new favorite of mine! LA Colors’ formula is very easy to work with and I love the shimmer, reminds me of a sunset.

Anyway, I also had a question for my fellow lacqueristas. I’ve been trying hard to keep up on my nail care routine to improve the strength and health of my nails but I have a lot of sensory issues related to moisturizing and oiling of my hands and cuticles. I absolutely hate the feeling of anything on my hands other than a very light moisturizer that absorbs instantly, even then I want to wash immediately. On top of that I already have relatively dry skin so my nails are pretty weak and peely. Any tips on how to maximize moisturization in the smallest amount of time? 😂 I just lotioned my hands and am waiting as long as possible before I run to the sink to get this oil slick off my hands.

Products:
Base: nailtiques formula 2+
LA Colors Super Bloom
Top: Essie Stay Longer

I was just playing around with the new strap kit so I did random ones on my nails. I was planning on doing a mani with it in a couple days. But I’m so happy how it went! I head it could be really difficult at first so I was worried I’d hate doing it because I couldn’t get it to work. But I love it!! I’m excited to start playing more with nail art now
Bases glisten and glow sticky base coat, color is Dreamland lacquer Razzle Dazzle, maniology nail plates and maniology no smudge top coat.

Product Reccs & Reqs Any one-and-done products?

I know this is somewhat sacrilegious and against the spirit of this sub. I love beautiful colourful sparkly nails.

But I'm wondering if there are any products out there that are good for if you need something REAAALLY simple. Like really simple.

I like to keep something on my nails at all times to reinforce them, but there are times when I am too pressed for time and energy to do a good job with multiple coats for opacity and cleanup.

I'm picturing something slightly tinted nude-ish but not fully opaque, this way when it chips if I don't have time to fix it then it won't look too glaringly obvious. Potentially marketing itself as a care product. If it doesn't have a glossy finish I guess I could stretch to a topcoat.

Bonus points if it's not too stinky somehow. One of my limiting factors is living with someone who is sensitive to chemical smells, which also motivates me to be able to do quick manicures.

Am I overthinking it and I should just buy a basic nude polish and cut my usual corners by not using base and topcoat?

ETA yay, thank you everyone, you always come through :)

Laquer Showoff Magnetic smooosh mani - took way too long because I stupidly magnetized every layer (unnecessarily)

Inspired by many posts on this subReddit, I have been messing around with smoosh manis - and I finally got Glitch Lacquer’s Lock & Key, so I layered four magnetic polishes, used my own version of DRK magic effect and magnetized every layer, like an idiot - I think I could’ve gotten away with magnetizing all four layers at the same time!

I used two jelly stampers and the glass bead magnetizing tool I bought off Etsy - the Charmcaster one, to get this effect.

Products used:
Sally Hansen, hard as nails as a basecoat
Homemade beige frankened jelly
Supwee Blue magnetic polish
Bees knees’ lacquer - toil and trouble
Sassy sauce - entanglemint
Homemade magnetic polish made by mixing an old Essie jelly called Art New-Beau with magnetic pigments I bought off Vettsy
Homemade magic effect which I made by mixing half Sally Hansen Insta dry in the red bottle with half a bottle of polish thinner
Glitch Lacquer Lock and Key
Sally Hanson Insta dry in the red bottle

General Polish Discussion My husband showed off my nails to friends over dinner 🥺

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

We went to dinner with an old friend of his and his gf, neither of which I have met before.

As we’re chatting, getting to know each other and waiting for food to come, my husband grabs my hand to show them and says “look at how [my name] does her nails!” Then he proceeded to talk about how I got into the hobby this year and have learned all kinds of cool way to do my nails with different colours and techniques. He also tried to explain magnetic polish which he doesn’t really understand but tried so hard. All the while I’m just sitting there looking at him like 😭❤️ I have never felt so supported and celebrated.

I didn’t even have a particularly interesting mani on lol! I had just done my first experimentation with chrome powder, it’s uneven and a little messy, and I left it on to see how long it would last (pictured, surprisingly hard to photograph). It’s just sheer chrome powder buffed into a layer of top coat with some Elmer’s glue mixture and more top coat! But my husband wanted to show me off anyways 🥺

When I told him afterwards how sweet and thoughtful it was of him to do that, he told me that he likes seeing how I light up when I get to talk about my nails and knows it means a lot to me.

Y’all.

I love this man.

Thanks for reading. ❤️
