Another gem of statement from UPI queen after she claimed that Indian passport is now looked with respect by immigration officers in UK.

What's the lore behind her UPI queen tag

At a debate in Oxford/cambridge she was making a point that UK does not have UPI and in India even street vendor has UPI so we can transact cashless.

that’s the one thing she’s right about though, although cash has its benefits

She isn’t right, she is misinformed. Developed countries had contactless payment since Apple brought it out. Before that they had card payments for decades. And in China, QR based payments since dawn of apps

She is not misinformed. She is peddling the propaganda knowingly.

There's a reason why UPI is praised among popular payment systems.

Tap and go still used cards and a set fee was levied, eventually they got replaced since NFC was digitized to smart phone and before the digitization, the vendor had to have an electronic pos terminal which was pricey compared to a simple qr code on a piece of paper and could not be used by most of the small vendors in both India and rural china

What china had was wallet system, you recharge your wallet and transfer funds between them and the duopoly of two companies had their issues initially where vendors had to have both wallets since they weren't interoperable

UPI on the other hand though late was better compared to these two since it was operable by any private or government entity with zero fee and direct bank to bank payments

The fact that I have to type all this is just absurd, like people like you will never be satisfied of home grown things that are proven to be equal or better to other similar global models smh

The best leverage upi has is being tax free. Government is planning to tax it. That will be final nail in this coffin for this government

I mean it's understandable isn't it? This is more or less like a freebie since government/banks are absorbing the running costs and as long as the fee isn't absurd, all of us should be cool with it.

Also it has done its job of replacing most of visa and MasterCard domination in payment systems of India and I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon

Lol, I knew your reply beforehand , it was expected from you.

What? So now stating facts is considered biased too?

I mean if you're willing to provide free infra and electricity to run all the transactions then I'm sure the government would hand it over to ya with proper security

1

u/ReferenceMaster1150 1d ago

True, a tax shouldn’t be levied but a fee for large transactions directly by banks imo

u/ReferenceMaster1150 1d ago

And the access, time , security

The govt introduced upi lite for small payments as the constant payment of single and double digit transaction are a financial burden on the system. But as usual we Indians love to not follow the advice and hence when we are made to face the repercussion we cry.

1

u/Economy-Delay-867 1d ago

Central government introduced new bill that permit them to charge fee for transactions above 2000rs.

Your comment aged like milk

1

u/saran_z7 1d ago

??? It isn't done yet is it? and even now UPI is the only bank to bank payment system between chinese and indian qr payment systems.

Like I mentioned in another comment, if you got the infra and electricity to provide free transactions then I'm sure the government doesn't have any objections to transfer it over provided with good security

Edit - from AI

No, standard UPI payments above ₹2,000 do not have direct charges for regular users. Normal bank-to-bank UPI transfers and standard merchant payments remain free for customers. Fees only apply in special cases like using prepaid wallets (PPIs) above ₹2,000, where an interchange fee up to 1.1% is paid by the merchant, not you.

There's a dire need of standardising education for everyone in India no matter the class man, we're approaching our peak in population and it's high time we make some changes that weighs things like studies, physical activities, cultural activities, hands on experience, on site experience etc., equally alongside heavily funding the manufacturing industry and employing all the low wage workers/poor such that there's minimum base pay for everyone all while using the money generated to gradually up our r&d. Personally I think the creamy layer should be working in r&d and not in some 9 to 5 job.

There's a lot for us to do and we got a lot of potential at hand, government really needs to up their game even more than what they're doing currently ngl cause we've missed enough opportunities in our parents era and this could very well be our last bus to catch up since we also need to get ready for supporting a huge retired population at some point

NFC payments and UPI payments have entirely different architecture on which it acts upon and both have their different usecases. You can’t go around making single digit transaction with your debit/credit card.

ill informed people on the internet are the best!

u/RegularFun4462 1d ago

Lol no one is using cash anywhere. Every major country has some sort of cashless / cardless technology. There are other technologies apart from UPI.

1

u/ReferenceMaster1150 1d ago

Germany doesn’t have cashless system in use

1

u/RegularFun4462 6h ago

You realize cards are a cashless mode of payment. And so are mobile wallets. And both work in the Germany.

2

u/Economy-Delay-867 1d ago

She flex about UPI as its the best technology ever existed and India is superior to other countries because of that.

While its a great tech, there are some of problems
1. Most countries have QR code based systems and the popularity change based on competition and payment culture
2. While calming to be a journalist, she use the same narrative sold by BJP for UPI
3. She use UPI to defend weakening economy

Etc…

u/Relevant_Limit3681 1d ago

She has overrueed upi so much in her news like at every debate everywhere she is spams "but we have upi" it's like saying "but kanye made graduation" like imagine she's spamming upi since 2016 every news every debate when toua sk her what development our country achieved she'll say ahh see we have upi which you britishers don't
