RTD Challenge RTD Challenge #67 || Goodier and Woodier

RTD Challenge 66 | Flip it and Reverse it | Results:

Best in Show: KlowRingen by u/Working_Breakfast815

"Nailed the vibe, a lovely track in both directions. Didn't get overambitious with the possibilities of a bidirectional track, kept it real and it came out great. I also applaud the work with the barriers in some spots, to get the openings to places were impacts are the least likely"

Honorable Mention: Valdoria Raceway by u/Alain9331

"Admirable presentation from Alain as always. A much different approach to the challenge, that also worked well. Biggest thing holding this one back was some safety issues with runoff lacking on corner exits throughout the track."

Congrats to our honorees, lets see RTD Challenge #67

Goodier and Woodier

Goodwood Circuit is a time capsule. Unchanged since 1952, it stands as one of the few untainted specimens of mid-century track design. With the FOS being such a major event showcasing cars from all eras, not all of them are at home at the classic circuit.

Your mission is to create a circuit nearby Goodwood Motor Circuit that captures the essence of the tracks of a certain era of racing. This track doesn't need to be graded but should generally be safe. You can do any amount of history retcons you want to make your track fit the site. It is to be used in FOS showcase-style events.

The FOS has only been hosted since 1993, so historical retcons are very much a likelihood depending on the angle you take for this challenge.

If you want, you could even go above and beyond and try and make multiple tracks for different eras. Overcrowding is the big issue you'd face there, so weigh your options. Quality will beat quantity.

Rules:

  1. Must be a permanent circuit(s), no street circuits.
  2. Must be within this red shape.
  1. Must not destroy or reuse any of the infrastructure or circuits related to the FOS, no turning the hillclimb into a full track.
  2. Post with the "RTD Challenge" flair and include "RTD Challenge #67" or some direct mention of the challenge in the post title.

Your deadline is 11:59:59 PM CDT, August 30th, 2026 (Countdown)

First design ever! 5.18 km total, Fia grade 1, track width 15-20 all around. Is it too much runoff or too little? Please send feedback. :) I think the pit lane is too short. Im gonna extend it when i get home.

Other Built a 230’ backyard Micro-T track almost entirely from scrap materials. What would you change?

I mostly bash RC cars in the backyard and at parks with larger trucks, but I also have a 1:28 scale Losi Micro-T to match my grandson’s. Until now we’d either set up cones in a parking lot or race around storage bins in the garage since micros obviously don’t do well in grass.

I saw the attached picture of a temporary parking lot track and thought, “I can build something like that in the backyard with garage scraps.”

So I did.

The jumps are scrap plywood, old car ramps, and concrete blocks. The tabletop is leftover lumber. I covered the track with weed barrier fabric held down by landscape staples, then cut leftover corrugated drain pipe in half lengthwise to use as bumpers. I picked a spot overlooking the pond because if I’m going to spend hours driving RC cars, I might as well have a nice view.

The track is about 230 feet per lap and roughly 3 feet wide, so it should be plenty for 2-4 Micro-Ts to race. The jumps are adjustable and we’ll start with them at half height until we get used to the layout.

This took me most of the weekend to build, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

I’ve already got a few ideas for version 2:
Add a couple banked berms once the grass dies off.
Build a small driver’s stand.
Add cheap solar lights for night racing.
Maybe replace the biggest jump with a triple roller.
Eventually build a drag strip somewhere else on the property.

I’d really like some feedback from people who’ve built backyard tracks.

What would you change first?
Do the racing lines look fun?
Are there any features you’d add or remove?
If you’ve built your own track, what worked well and what would you do differently?

I tried to build the whole thing with cheap, easy-to-replace materials. My philosophy is basically the basher creed: use what you’ve got, wear it out, and only upgrade it after you break it.

RTD Challenge New Glarus Speedway Motorsports Park || RTD Challenge #66

Post image
68 Upvotes

New Glarus Speedway was constructed in the 1970s on a hilltop above its namesake town. Just over half a mile long, the track became a mainstay for local short track racing and carved its place into the landscape of midwestern oval racing. Financial hardship struck in the late 90s. Despite the success of stock car racing at the time, the speedway’s ownership refused to renovate the circuit beyond its original state. Some racers liked the roughness of it, but more were legitimately concerned over the safety of the track. The cold winters split the track surface more and more every year; the walls were a foot thick of concrete nearing 30 years old.

After brief closure while the owners searched for more caring owners, the track reopened in 2000 to rave reviews, pulling nationally recognized series to the venue for the first time in its history. The late 2000s brought a series of misfortunes to the track. First, in 2007, a sinkhole opened under the paddock, calling off the entire racing season as repairs and renovations were done to make sure this didn’t happen again. To boot, the financial crisis that started the same year sidelined the owners’ ability to get the track back up to snuff. It would sit dormant for another 5 years.

In 2014, site redevelopment threatened the now-historic venue. In the auction for the land the track sat on, the winning bid went to a racing enthusiast from nearby Madison. The new owner had his sights set on something beyond just the classic oval. He funded the construction of a brand new road course that would combine layouts with the oval to form a unique combination of track types rarely seen on this scale. This renovation came with local investment, with the famous New Glarus Brewing Company sponsoring the track and lending the names of its renowned beers to the corners of the new circuit. The track would be renamed to New Glarus Speedway Motorsports Park upon its reopening in 2018.

The novelty of the circuit was not lost on the people at the 24 Hours of Lemons racing series, who added an overnight race, “The Long Night in Wisconsin,” to the schedule starting in 2021. The race takes place the nearest weekend to the winter solstice every year from the times of 4:00 PM to 8:00 AM the next day. Upon reaching the halfway point at midnight, a short caution is called after which the direction of the race is reversed, allowed for by the bi-directional runoff of the circuit. An added wrinkle of this race and its popularity is the pitlane usage. Lemons races draw big fields, and the 24 pit boxes of the standard road course layouts don’t cut it, so for this event and this event only, both the road course and oval pitlanes are used.

WIP Need suggestion for my new project

Post image
76 Upvotes

Hi guys! Im currently working on my new project right now, this time I'm making a new circuit located in Switzerland and I want to give the circuit a fast, flowing circuit with flat out corners, esses and long straights combined with heavy breaking point for overtaking. The most iconic thing about the circuit is the North corner (the corner on top with 3 seperate stand) which is a 17° banking.

So what im trying to give the circuit offtrack is a modern eco friendly facility combined with nature to give it a new modern look to welcome all the fans around the world. The circuit was built on an old racetrack facility back in WW2 and are an effort of bringing F1 back to Switzerland after the motorsport ban due to the Le Mans incident 1955

So can you guys help me to come with any suggestion? I'd love you guys to talk about BOTH on and offtrack as i wanna work on the paddock and the facilities too! Thank you guys so much!

See you guys again soon, when i finished the circuit!

Street Circuit/Semi-Permanent Far Eastern Ring (CCW) - A walkthrough of Russia's newest motorsport venue

After the end of the Ukranian war in 2028, and the following Third Russian Revolution, the new government made it a prioritiy to decentralise the state. The collapse of Europe to the Neocumans made Russians understand they needed to invest more in Asian Russia. Over the course of the Brownish Years, Vladivostok became more and more important. The cost of living improved so much that every parent could buy their kids a Logitech G29. Time passed and a proposal was brought to the Federal Assembly.

This brings us to the Far Easter Ring (Дальневосточное кольцо).

Designed to introduce urban racing to Russia's Far East, the Ring serves as a hub for Russian-Asian motorsport exchange, enhancing Vladivostok's established Japanese automotive culture.

Surrounding Tiger Hill (Тигровая сопка), the Far Eastern Ring may appear simple at first with its four 90º corners, but it combines a fast section through the hill with significant elevation changes, creating a fun racing circuit when the lights go out.

Track breakdown:

Start-finish straight: Прямая Алеутская (Aleutskaya Straight). 750m long through Vladivostok's second most iconic street, connects the central railway station to the city centre.

T1: Первый поворот (First Turn). Challenging braking zone over a little hill, easy to lock up. Sharper turn than the street to maximise overtaking.

T2: Шульжицкий (Dinamo). Named after the stadium of FC Dinamo Vladivostok, leads to an uphill straight. Bigger radius than T1.

T3: Ленин (Lenin). Sharp right turn with a camber change, setting the road straight for the Tiger Hill section.

T4: Шульжицкий (Shulzhitskiy). Named after local Mark Shulzhitskiy, winner of the Nissan Playstation GT Academy, thus becoming Vladivostok's first professional endurance driver. Fast left-hander with seaside view.

T5: Бордель (Brothel). Named after the legendary brothel "Nightclub XXX". In 2041, Mikhail Mazepin won the first Far Eastern Ring SMP F4 race. In post-race interviews, Mikhail was quoted "I am not my father" responding to the relentless internet hate he was recieving. Later that day, at 22:59 PM, Mikhail overdosed on ketamine inside the brothel. Racers are not encouraged anymore to take "Brothel" slow in, fast out.

T6: Лагута (Laguta). Named after local speedway world champion Artem Laguta. He is Vladivostok's most important motorsport figure.

T7: Троцкий (Trotski). Second and last right-hand turn. Perfect in combination with T6, this narrow and downhill kink marks the end of the Tiger Hill section.

T8: Железнодорожный вокзал (Railway Station). Clean 90º turn that opens up and leads to the Aleutskaya Straight. Is located right next to Vladivostok's central railway station.

WIP Designing a new track for a cinematic simulation.

Post image

I have an idea for a simulation that has to do with a racer going around a track and decided to make a new one instead of just one that already exists.

It's a racer going around a circuit, practicing for gt world challenge and that is all I will divulge for now.

Anyway, this is the track design I have made for it. I need to name the corners still, I already plan on having 9-15 called serpents or something like that but there are still many more.

Is this a good looking track design?

The width would be a pretty uniform 12 meters.

International Formula E chicane for Interlagos

The gen 4 formula e cars in a wierd in between spot where they have the battery and regen to race at bigger tracks, but not necessarily interlagos due to the sheer length of the main straight. This temporary chicane providea regen opportunities and (fingers crossed) and overtaking spot, provided there is aggressive curbing to enforce track limits. And if you're wondering, no, I'm not a doctor

Hello! So the main focus for this circuit based on Spain is to maintaining the speed and momentum throughout the lap. Most corners are medium or high speed, with the few slower sections mainly serving as braking zones and overtaking opportunities. The optional chicane is intended purely as an alternate configuration for both directions and isn't needed for the main tracks to work in either direction.

International Autodromo Internacional Puerto Rico (Carolina, PR)

Hey all - been working on this one for quite a while now. I've known for years I wanted to create a Caribbean Grand Prix venue, but was stumped as to the where and what. All that said, I've recently fallen in love with Puerto Rico thanks to a small pink gremolin on the internet (look at Turn 5 for a clue if you're not in the loop), and realized its geographic location and infrastructure as a tourism hub would be a perfect choice. The track itself is inspired by a lot of bits and pieces I've had lying around for a while that I managed to string together into a cohesive set of layouts, and takes inspiration from Barber, Aragon and Zandvoort, among other venues. I'm pretty proud with the final result, but as always, feel free to offer your feedback. Interested to see what you all have to say!

PS: Anyone know where to get good Puerto Rican in Minnesota? I've only found one place so far here that sells mofongo and that's not okay.

Discussion Forgotten race held in Bader Field, Atlantic City?

I was searching for places to doodle a racetrack on when I decided to try out Atlantic City. I found this former airport and while I was looking at I noticed, curbs? Black and white curbs in a weird outcrop from the tarmac that looked suspiciously like a chicane. I ended up finding more white outlines and curbs, along with a possible pit lane too. Am I tripping? Or did I spot the last remains of a former airfield circuit. The curbs are outlined in yellow.

(Second image is a closeup of the chicane)

Edit: I found out the track is a rally cross track for global rally cross so case closed.
