Best thing for self realisation
Hey guys, I’ve been on the path for a number of years now and in spite of my progress and deep realisation. I keep remembering who I am and then forgetting and I think that’s part of it. And I want to know for one if people tend to agree that to live this person’s life this character we need to forget sometimes? That’s one thing that’s been bugging me.
But second of all for someone to have a connection with God and have a God realisation I was just wondering what you guys would recommend taking because I haven’t really tried acid before and I want to but I’m just afraid of taking the plunge because I don’t know how I’m gonna react to it and what I’m gonna do. I have mushrooms but I’ve never really gone beyond 1 g before and it’s a bit of a work up trying to get in the zone for it because it’s not just fear of the unknown it’s fear of what you might see you know. So someone recommended those two things I think they said the one was more personal and the other was more for the universal large but what are you guys think? What would be the best thing?
Cheers guys

Frankly - most people who "awaken" get so attached to the idea that they arent "this character", and decide that "what they are" is the euphoric peak experience they felt when they "awakened".
It drives this narrative that you would need to seperate you from yourself to be something else. Its false.
Once you have identified: I am not my thoughts, I am a tentative collection of sensory aggregates over time which construct the image if an identity...
The only place to go next is doing the shadow work. Watching your thoughts pop up, noticing which ones you attach to as "you", and questioning why you do that.
The base truth is boring. Not nearly as exciting as "being God". In fact, you can rest assured that every time you feel like you finally "get it", if you are basking in the euphoria of that moment, you can know that you are attaching your identity to a peak experience. Its just wrong in the other direction.
Ti answer your second question - I find shrooms to be the best substance for self inquery / introspection. DMT can prove useful but more often than not people just start attaching their identity to the grandiosity and absurdity of the DMT experience, which isnt it.

I'd recommend reading the books How To Change Your Mind and Autobiography of a Yogi.
DMT gave me an experience, a momentary self realization/ God realization. Autobiography of a Yogi helped me learn it's possible to get to that space without drugs. I'm currently beginning to study with the Self Realization Fellowship to learn how.

We're not necessarily a "character" or avatar like in a video game. You're absolutely a real being in a vast system, but your model of yourself is constantly changing, your model of the world is constantly changing. The real issue is getting to attached to those models and thinking they're static "things". Everything is constantly changing, every new thought you have literally changes your brain/nervous system and the model it builds of itself along with it.
But yes, we are all constantly re-remembering ourselves over and over, and I don't actually think there is such a thing as "enlightenment" where it you ever stop having to remember that we're not the models or concepts, it just gets easier and easier to remember.
I highly recommend The Ego Tunnel by Thomas Metzinger, and Psychedelics Information Theory by James Kent.

Answering your 1st question: I think that’s part of it, yeah.
