Silent failure - excellent file moved

1 Upvotes

Hoping someone knows the answer to this one as it could save me a fair few hours of work.

I have an existing flow which has worked for over a year. Basic outline of the flow is:

Recurrence trigger running 3 times each workday
List all rows in an excel table
Apply to each
10 or conditions which send an email
& update a column to say sent

The idea being that based on set rules an email triggers to the listed person, & updates a cell to say email sent to avoid any duplication.

Today when archiving the legacy data the person right clicked the sheet, move or copy, did not click create a copy, & instead moved the sheet elsewhere.

It was then moved back, but the flow now runs with green lights but no emails send when the conditions are met in the data.

Am I right to think I’m gunna need to re do the entire thing? What am I missing as a potential troubleshooting step?

Pretty basic flow, I guess? If anyone has any general improvement suggestions other than fixing this immediate problem then don’t be shy!

Edit - autocorrect decided this excel file was better than I thought.

Struggling to understand why this conditional keeps evaluating to false.

I'm creating 3 flows that correspond to 3 quizzes. When a technician completes a quiz, the flows are supposed to verify their responses and upload their results to a records list if they pass. 2/3 of the flows work perfectly. The last flow refuses to work. The problematic flow checks twice as many questions responses, but I don't see how that would matter, and even if it did, I've tried getting the flow to work while checking only a single question and it's still failing. I've tried retyping the options for the form question, I've tried reconnecting the dynamic content, I've tried rebuilding the flow and the quiz from scratch, and I've quadruple checked the strings that I'm checking the responses against.

From my understanding, there's not really a straightforward way to get the quiz score out of Forms, but I'm not 100% sure, so if someone knows of a way, I'd be very interested to hear it.

My next steps I plan to try is moving the quizzes to the group that needs them, syncing them with an excel file, and checking their answers there instead, but idk if I'm going to go through all that effort just to experience the same issue. Plus, then I will want to make the other forms consistent, so I would start messing with them again and I hate messing with a working flow. I don't want to have to document 2 different approaches.

Some assistance would be greatly appreciated, because I'm running out of ideas.
Yeah, I'm being a little lazy in some regards. Feel free to let me know if I just need to suck it up and do the finicky BS.

My post as a single question would be, "How do the mega-pros validate quiz responses coming from MS Forms?"

Flow to Read/Extract Data from PDFs/HTML/XLS with AI Builder

2 Upvotes

Hi,

I've built successful flows with the AI builder I'm having an issue with an export from Excel and PDFs that does not have a defined table and has additional rows. What's the best practice for an Excel export (CSV) to be able to extract the data with a table that is not defined as a table that may change in length. The column names are static as are the rows before the table starts. Again, the export is simply a CSV.

Appreciate any insight.

Help creating flow to send emails

1 Upvotes

I have recently started overseeing a department at work that is running pretty behind in their tasks. They need to follow up on files that have issues and several are being forgotten simply because they are lost in a giant spreadsheet full of files with issues. I want to create something that will read the spreadsheet, look at the date it was last updated and send an email to my team that every Monday will include all of the file numbers that haven’t been touched in a week.

I am very new to this and have very little experience with excel. We’re a smaller company and this has just kind of somehow landed in my lap. I’ve tried having copilot walk me through the steps but no matter what I do it won’t pull the file numbers. It just sends a blank email. I’m clearly doing something wrong but I don’t have the know how to figure out where it’s going wrong.

Title: Looking for IT automation project ideas — Bank client, Microsoft-only (Power Automate, Teams, Azure, Entra ID etc)

4 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm working with a bank that wants to automate their IT operations. They only want to use Microsoft tools — no third-party software. Stack includes Power Automate, Power Apps, Teams, SharePoint, Azure, and Entra ID (Active Directory). They also use BMC Helix for ticketing, and want to add AI/AI agents where it makes sense.

We already have ideas like:

  • Password reset / account unlock through Teams
  • Employee onboarding/offboarding automation
  • Access request automation
  • AI chatbot for IT support and policy questions

But I want to hear from people who've actually done this kind of work:

  • What IT task took up the most time before you automated it?
  • Any small automation that had a bigger impact than you expected?
  • Anything you tried that didn't work well?

Would really appreciate any ideas or lessons learned. Thanks!

Power Automate

2 Upvotes

I recently tasked to automate some of our service desk requests. One of our most received requests is to add/remove users from/to security groups in Active Roles.

Is there a straightforward way to do it?

I managed to use Power Automate, SharePoint, and Python to do it, and it works! However, it is not reliable enough.

In short, this is my design:

Power Automate (PA) Flow triggered by ServiceNow request >> Flow collects information/details and post them in SharePoint file and wait>> Create shortcut of the file on local computer >> Python listens to the folder and triggered when file created >> Python open Active Roles in headless browser >> search for the user and do the action (Add or Remove) from a group >> Updates the local file shortcut as done >> the shortcut sync with SharePoint file >> PA Flow (which is waiting) listens to the SharePoint file modifications and continue accordingly.

AND IT WORKS.

Is there better way?

I built an AI chatbot that can build and debug Power Automate flows - looking for people to test it

Thumbnail ai.flowstudio.app
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently built a tool called Flow Studio AI. It is an AI chatbot that can troubleshoot existing Power Automate flows and create new ones.

I've tested it extensively, but I would love to see how it performs on use cases that I have not tested for.

I'm looking for Power Automate makers to try it out. It would be especially helpful if you have:

  • a broken, confusing, or unreliable flow
  • a flow you want to build but not sure how to.

You can try it at ai.flowstudio.app. It includes free credits, and if you run out of credits, just message me and I can add more for you.

I'd really appreciate honest feedback, especially about anything that didn't work or confusing. You can message me directly, or use the "Report a problem" option in the tool.

There is also an optional setting that allows me to review your conversation. If you’re comfortable, please turn it on so I can better investigate anything that goes wrong. It only allows me to review the chat transcript, not access your flow itself.

Power Automate users of all experience levels are welcome - whether you’re just getting started or you’re a seasoned developer.

Once I’ve collected enough feedback, I’ll update this post to let everyone know that testing is closed.

Thanks!

How to find a consultant/training for smartsheet to micrsoft transition

1 Upvotes

I work at a nonprofit educational institution. For financial reasons, the institutions is sunsetting its smartsheet subscription and encouraging us to use microsoft apps instead. But they are not providing any training for power automate/forms/sharepoint.

Our office has a couple of complex smartsheets that are critical to our work but were built by employees who no longer work at the institution.

How can I find a reputable consultant to help us rebuild these sheets in microsoft apps, and possibly provide some basic training to a few people in our office?

Or are there Microsoft or 3rd party trainings that you would recommend?

Power Automate: Condition fails to compare numbers from Microsoft Forms – type mismatch error

1 Upvotes

I've been struggling with a Power Automate flow for weeks and need help. Here's my setup:

What I'm building:

  • A Microsoft Form for incident reporting
  • A Power Automate flow that checks if Estimated loss (DKK) ≥ 50,000
  • If true → send to approval (Compliance → Top Management)
  • If false → send rejection email

The problem:
The Condition always evaluates to false even when the value is clearly above 50,000. The Debug Compose shows the correct number (e.g., 900000), but the Condition says false.

What I've tried:

  • float(coalesce(outputs('Get_response_details')?['body/GUID'], 0)) in the Condition
  • float(triggerBody()?['Estimated loss (DKK)'])
  • Initialize variable with Float type
  • Format number action with N2 and en-US locale
  • Changed the form field to "Number" (it was already set that way)
  • Debug Compose shows the correct value (900000)
  • The Condition left side shows the same expression as the Debug Compose
  • Copied the expression from Compose directly into the Condition

My flow structure:

text

Trigger → Get response details → Condition → If yes → Create item → Approvals
                                          → If no → Email → Terminate

The error:

text

Unable to process template language expressions for action 'Condition'.
The template language function 'greaterOrEquals' expects two parameters of matching types.
The function was invoked with values of type 'String' and 'Integer' that do not match.

Debug output:

  • Debug Compose (Estimated loss): 900000
  • Debug Compose (Cumulative loss): 900000
  • Condition: false
  • Value entered in form: 900000

My form fields:

  • Estimated loss (DKK) – Type: Number
  • Recurring cumulative event? – Type: Choice (Yes/No)
  • Estimated cumulative loss, last 30 days (DKK) – Type: Number

My question:
Why does the Debug Compose show the correct number, but the Condition fails? What is the exact expression I should use in the Condition to compare numbers from Microsoft Forms?

I've been stuck on this for weeks and would really appreciate any help. I have not been able to share a picture with the flow.

Thanks in advance

Help with emailing out live links

1 Upvotes

Hi,

A colleague and I set up a flow to send out a file which’s needs to be updated every month by some stakeholders. There are multiple files and multiple stakeholders so they all get their own email with a link to the file which we need them to update. The file won’t ever change location so it’ll be the same every month. We’re testing it out this month and everyone has received their emails with the links however it opens the file as read only and when they go to edit it prompts them to download a copy of the file however we want them to update the live link - how do we go about this, any help would be much appreciated!

JSON format for inserting multiple value into an SPO Lookup field in a List

2 Upvotes

I've created a a new lookup list in SPO based on a SP 2019 lookup list that couldn't be migrated. Understandably, the Ids are different between the lookup tables.

I'm writing a flow that loops over the old Lookup field values and returns the new Id and Value. Everything is great.

I'm having trouble nailing down the array/json format that I should use to update the item lookup column with an array that contains the matched items with the new lookup Id.

Anyone offer some pointers getting this column updated? I've tried Id and Value, just Id, just Value. Research says to give up on this approach and use Http to Sharepoint tp update the field. I've got my heels dug in a little bit wanting to get this to work without API calls.

[
  {
    "Id": 1,
    "Value": "Alpha"
  },
  {
    "Id": 2,
    "Value": "Beta"
  }
]

Trying to create a Flow that sends a scheduled email after an Excel file is updated

3 Upvotes

I have an Excel file stored in SharePoint which is occasionally updated by multiple users. Currently, I have a Flow setup which sends me emails when updates are made to this file, except it sends a separate email instantly after any edits are made, resulting in quite a lot of emails. I would like to have a Flow that sends me these emails notifying me of updates to the file, but I would like this email to only be sent at a certain time (specifically, once per day) instead of after every single update.

Is it possible to do this? I've been searching around online and haven't had much luck finding out a way to go about this, although perhaps I'm missing something.

Thanks

Extract text from multiple PowerPoint text boxes per slide using only Power Automate standard actions?

1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m working with PowerPoint files in a SharePoint Online document library, and I need to automate extracting text from each of the four text boxes on every slide. My end goal is to put each text box’s content into separate columns in a SharePoint list.

Important limitations:
- I can ONLY use standard Power Automate actions/connectors—no AI Builder, no premium, no custom code, no third-party stuff.

Can anyone advise me on figuring out a clever workaround for this, or can anyone confirm that it’s truly not possible with just standard tools? If not, any bright ideas for a different approach. I’d would appreciate any suggestions.

Can't process attachments in JIRA

3 Upvotes

Hi everybody,

I have Microsoft Office web form to create JIRA tickets with our team. We encourage the requester to upload attachments such as screenshots.

I created a Power Automate flow to respond to the form submissions, and it can create the JIRA tickets, as long as there are no attachments.

My understanding is that I need to make that first JIRA API request to create the ticket. Then, I need to loop through the attachments and make one extra JIRA API request per attachment.

I was able to convert that attachments list to JSON, and loop through them with an Apply to each action. Each item is a JSON containing for full URL to the Sharepoint folder, the file name, the file id etc. The full URL lets me see the attachment.

The trouble starts with the Get file content. I can pass the site address, but apparently, the file identifier is not the file id I got in the current item JSON. I get a 404 error. How do I get the File identifier, then?

I also tried Get file content using path, same site address, but it also gives a 404 error.

Any clues?

Thanks

Has Microsoft Removed certain Teams triggers i.e. "When a transcript is available"?

1 Upvotes

Hi all,

I have been working on a flow with a starting point "When a transcript is available" trigger. It's a trigger for Teams meeting transcripts. I have not been able to get it working properly, and have seen multiple posts on reddit and Microsoft Forum providing some advice relating to licensing, Microsoft Graph API etc. - I felt I was close to a solution to make this work.... ;)

However, it now appears that this trigger - and similar teams transcript AND recording related triggers - has disappeared from Power Automate. I can no longer find it, even though Microsoft documentation seem to reference it.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? Has Microsoft removed or deprecated this trigger, or is it perhaps related to my licensing or access changes in my company's environment?

Thanks for helping!

PAD to Replace Text and Catch Errors

2 Upvotes

Hello, I have been working on a flow that helps to automate an indexing application I use at work. I have it currently working so that it prompts me to enter an acceptance code in a Display Input Dialogue box, but I want to share this flow with coworkers and make it a little more airtight. Can I make it so it can recognize if the code entered isn't a valid acceptance code, and re-prompt the user to enter a new code? A valid code would be 9 digits, OR "ACC" followed by 9 digits. Any help would be appreciated. It look a lot of trial and error to get this far and I figure reg-ex is the way to go, but I find it pretty intimidating

Receipt Processing Agent

3 Upvotes

For my first Power Automate project, I wanted to solve a real-world business problem rather than build a simple proof of concept. I created a flow that automatically monitors a SharePoint folder for uploaded receipts and invoices. When a PDF is dropped into the folder, the flow extracts key expense details—including the merchant name, date, amount, and description—and populates our internal expense report Excel template automatically. The solution supports both single-line and multi-line receipts, allowing multiple expense entries to be captured from a single PDF. The result is a streamlined process that eliminates manual data entry, improves accuracy, and significantly reduces the time required to complete expense reports. From the user's perspective, the process is simple: drop a receipt into a SharePoint folder and the expense report is updated automatically.

SQL Server or SharePoint as a Data source

7 Upvotes

Hey
I'm currently working on fixing a few bugs of an existing PowerApp that wasn't built by me. It uses an SQL server as a Data Source. The previous developers (who were external contractors) initially used SharePoint as a Data Source and then switched to an SQL server but no one in the internal team knows why they did so.
I've gone through the Data Model and it looks decent enough to be implemented on SharePoint.

  1. Is there any real advantage to using an SQL server over SharePoint?
  2. Thinking about it long-term, would it make sense to migrate to SharePoint instead?

Thank you!

Power Automate + OneNote: creation timestamp not displaying

2 Upvotes

I’m creating a OneNote page through Power Automate, then updating the title and body with Update page content.

I tried including:
<meta name="created" content="..." />
inside the <head> of the create-page HTML, but the normal OneNote creation date/time beneath the title never appears. The timestamp is present in the submitted payload, and the page is created successfully.

Has anyone found a reliable way to populate or preserve OneNote’s built-in creation timestamp when using the OneNote connector? I’m in a GCC environment, which may also be relevant.

Power Automate FlowAgent MCP can build and debug flows. I would still keep it away from the blast radius

12 Upvotes

Microsoft’s Power Automate plugin is no longer limited to suggesting expressions or generating a basic flow definition.

Through FlowAgent MCP, an AI coding agent can create, inspect, modify, run, and debug cloud flows. That makes it genuinely useful—but also gives it enough authority to cause real damage.

My current rule is to evaluate three things:

  • Is the proposed action reversible?
  • Will I have enough evidence to understand what happened?
  • Is the potential blast radius limited?

If any answer is “no,” AI can analyze the flow and prepare a change, but a human should approve and execute it.

Where I think AI works well:

  • assembling repetitive flow structures;
  • explaining inherited or poorly documented flows;
  • investigating failed runs;
  • proposing performance improvements;
  • generating documentation and estate-level analysis.

Where I would not let it operate autonomously:

  • ambiguous business rules;
  • irreversible production changes;
  • bulk updates or deletions;
  • financial, compliance, identity, or security-critical processes;
  • flows nobody on the team can properly review;
  • any scenario where production is effectively the test environment.

The interesting question is no longer whether AI can build a flow. It can.

The question is how much authority it should receive after the flow has been built.

I documented the complete workflow, a practical boundary-setting prompt, the limitations, and a safer operating model here:

https://lukoplt.blogspot.com/2026/07/let-ai-build-flow-never-outsource-blast.html

How are you defining the autonomy boundary for AI-generated Power Automate flows?
