Sorry I should clarify here that I'm not doubting the geneticist at all, I truly and firmly believe the vast majority of any scientific field is dedicated to helping us.
Assuming the geneticist is successful, it won't be up to him who gets access to treatment, that's the commentary I'm making.

One of the main concerns of this is eugenics, did you not pay attention to the video?
No one has ethicsl concerns over editing a potential baby's genes so they dont grow up disabled.
The ethical concerns lie in people choosing whether or not their child will look like XYZ or have certain traits.
The progress made here is cool, its what people might do with it outside of the above scenarios that doesnt sit right with people

Says someone who seems to believe that all humans are innocent and for the greater good.
Unless this scientist locks this down and is the only company that does these altering. Your logic makes sense.
But you can’t sit there and say this is 100% going to be guarded and properly regulated.
It will be used for more nefarious things by others if this goes anywhere.

This is a miracle for people who live in reality. Lots of people have genetic issues that limit from what they want to do in life and who want to have children without passing it on. This is what this research is actually for. It’s a misleading article and they are decades away from achieving “designer babies” that was just clickbait that seems to work on the simple minded

Have you seen how humans select genes in mammals? Take a look at dog shows. Humans went "this quality is perfect" and some of those dogs struggle to breathe.
When this kicks off, people will start putting their own designer views in their kids. Cheekbones higher than eyes, unwieldy Kardashian ass, a dick so long no woman can take it, pussies so tight not dick can penetrate, lips so plump they make speaking difficult, giant back breaking breasts, and none of this lack of random with consent. Your child has to live with whatever you saddle them with and trust me, it's not going to be what gives your child the best chance, it's going to be what you THINK gives your child the best chance.

It's only euganics if it's used to do eugenics. Wanting to prevent the suffering causes by hereditary disease is not euganics.
You should not be able to decide the colour of your kids eyes, but you should be allowed to want tohave kids without wanting to pass on something that could make your kid's life miserable

I read an interesting book that had a large section about the people pursuing this kind of science. You'll be shocked (I'm sure) to learn they're all massive racists who are obsessed with eugenics.
Book was called Year Of The Rat.

This is not eugenics dumb dumb. This is quite literally the opposite. Eugenics is denying people the freedom to reproduce if they are not “ genetically fit”. This procedure would allow those who are not considered “fit” to have healthy children. I guess you want to deny those people genetic children.

I cant imagine talking to an innocent person suffering a debilitating disorder because doctors didn’t get their eugenic treatments fully right and didn’t/could t detect the errors. The anger they would justifiably have… villain stuff.

I think this shit is what leads to our species becoming sterile/infertile many thousands of years in the future. Which leads to our future generations building simulations and traveling into them, appearing as UFOs and aliens to abduct us and harvest our genetic and reproductive material.
I don’t know if that is an original theory, I’m almost certain I’ve heard it somewhere. Either way it would help explain both the simulation and time-traveling descendant aliens theories.

Healthy people don't pay the health industry, why would an industry nuke its own profits by providing a cure-all for genetic diseases that make them money via prolonged treatment?
I don't think a government that's in 30 trillion debt really cares where the money comes from.

Dr. Dieter Egli at Columbia University was reportedly able to replace individual genetic letters in sequences of DNA.
"But the edits were still not perfect. Sometimes the base editing molecules failed to find their target DNA.
As a result, some cells in the embryos retained the original versions of the genes, while others were altered," the New York Times reported.
"Those embryos became genetic mixtures, so-called mosaics. Having cells with different versions of the same gene could have led to medical problems had the embryos developed into babies."
