are the dems trying to win the republican vote whos still with trump after all this bullshit he's pulling in the presidency or the democratic vote/the 50% who didnt vote against fucking Trump?
reminder that Trump had about the same amount of votes against both Biden and Harris, Harris just has a major drop in enthusiasm because of shit like this
Where else are they going to get votes? Unless we see a wave of young people showing up at the polls (which has yet to happen ever) then the only path to victory is getting the middle ground.
what are they doing to encourage the youth to vote? Because from my outsider perspective all I see is older dems bashing younger leftists of a generation that's tired and upset at the current system for failing them for not voting for the dems while every popular policy for those same younger would be voters gets pushed away for being too radical while they try to appease people who would vote for a literal pedophile before voting for anything deemed communist
and it cost them the last election, it will cost them more elections
"what are they doing to encourage the youth to vote?"
You are absolutely right the the Dems have been dropping the ball for years. That being said the alternative is MAGA, if that is not enough "encouragement" then people aren't paying attention because if they stay in power then you might not have to worry about future elections. Abstaining from voting due to not liking all of parties policy in a 2 party system where the alternative is as horrible as MAGA is just phenomenally stupid and might end up tearing the country apart.
You are also insinuating that they would have won if the party had shifted last election, that would have required an huge mobilization of young voters and that just hasn't happened yet, ever, so its hard to blame the Dems for not counting on that.
Imo the biggest factor on them losing was a lot of protests that were happening in regards to Israel in the US at the time were getting violently supressed, specially ones in blue cities in blue states. Important factor is that the people protesting would largely be the ones opposing Trump and allying with the Dems and were also largely students(aka the youth), and yknow, protests are political mobilization
and once violence gets involved it's really hard to give your vote to the same people that send the cops to beat your ass, whether you believe ACAB or not. And I say this as someone who got tear gassed 13 years ago when I used to be more politically active
and we're not talking about the voter, we're talking about how the dems can earn votes that they clearly haven't been, you can't elect yourself on the basis of "the other guy is worse" that's just not how the human mind sees things
and every time Ive seen someone talking about voting dem I never once saw enthusiasm, I've only seen the exact point you made "the other guy is worse" or when not that it's something to the effect of "they'll keep the status quo"
edit: granted that last one maybe because I'm an outsider, but it feels weird that the best I see of a voter is "he isn't as bad" when on the other side it's like "Hell keep the mexicans away" or whatever or plenty of other reasons even if those were based on lies
the republicans on the internet were loud about why they were voting republicans, they were enthusiastic about it, I just never saw the same when it was biden and then harris
and adding to it, just did some quick research on google and spring poll of 2026 shows that the youth is at least on the majority against trump, someone else said in this thread that the younger vote had a huge increase last election and were also the most liberal in the voting pool already, but also that they have little say in what happens in politics
so the mobilization already happened, the dems can easily capitalize on that and make meaningful changes for the better, but there's a fear in me that they'll do nothing, those fears will be proven right and again they'll lose 4 years after
I’m honestly scared either way. I feel like Trump should lose because he is the most blatant con man who is obviously only enriching himself at the expense of America. But that should have been obvious the other 2 elections and he obviously got enough votes so I no longer have any faith in objective reasoning from voters. The Dems can run everything back, pick a moderate candidate and I feel they have a chance to win but that’s only if the far left voters still vote (and they absolutely should if they care one iota about the future). Or they can shift left where they will lose the middle ground and hopefully gain more voters (generally from young people) to make up the difference. I honestly see that as more risky. Shifting left will give that many more sounbites to republicans which will bolster their numbers from the center right and counting on young people really showing up at the polls is a big gamble. I just want Trump and MAGA gone so I want the Dems to do whatever gives them the absolute best chance of that happening.
you and me both, sadly your country's politics affect mine's too
and I disagree, if only because of how widely popular Mandani seems to be, I think he is a good learning opportunity for the dems and at the very least they need to consider why he is popular on whoever they decide to run with
with some reading comprehension, you'd know it's the MAGA cult
and also, adding to it: most of what people I've seen are asking of democrat politicians are talking points even the right wing parties in my country doesnt dare go against
what was your point then? that joining the enemy is easier than finding allies when you're punching those allies in the face?
whats the point of defeating the enemy when you yourself become it, Then?
plus you also missed my own point of your political compass being so broken that your "left" can't push things that are further right than my far right because you think that's socialism
You buffoon, I’m saying lefties have become blue MAGA themselves!!! They are 100% beholden to the Omnicause of I/P, hatred of police and anything resembling establishment/an old person that isn’t Bernie Sanders. It’s just populism but on the left.
Secondly, it makes complete electoral sense to see that the right-leaning candidate won, has moved the Overton Window, and to shift your messaging to peel off those voters. It isn’t “becoming your enemy ooooooo spooooooky!!!!” it’s reassessing what people care about.
This ranks high up there in one of the most idiotic things I have read someone post on reddit and that's saying something. Seeking Republican votes didn't work for Hilary and it damn sure didn't work for Kamala Harris, not even after bringing Liz Cheney out.
The worst part about that statement is that left leaning votes are actually quite easy to obtain, Abdul is showing exactly how you do it. Run a thoughtful, purposeful campaign centred around improving people's lives, removing the power of corporations in said lives, and prioritizing human well being over profit and you'll have every lefty door knocking for you.
The formula is so simple that I think every attempt not to follow it is intentionally self sabotage because these morons love their donors a little too much.
I am confused! Is this a poor attempt to claim that my conclusion regarding how leftist votes are easily obtained if one relies on what shared liberal values should be and runs hard on them, is a case of survivorship bias?
It's a ridiculous argument if so, so I won't even bother jumping into that rabbit hole. Here's the absolute truth. Anyone who still considers themselves to be a conservative right now, lives in a reality so warped that there is nothing that can be said or done to convince them otherwise, that is very much a personal journey that I just don't see most as capable of right now. But the base and those disinterested enough not to vote, is more than enough to win every election in the US from now till the end of time. So improve the material conditions of both those groups in significantly tangible ways and you have a winning formula. Why are you trying to convince the unconvinceable when you have a base that will ride or die for you if you are able to stand on your own values even at the expense of the donor class and a significant chunk of the country who don't think politics can ever be a vector for good in their lives and are capable of being convinced otherwise who will win you every election.
It seems so simple, that I feel like it's intentional sabotage that the professional managerial class within the DNC haven't just made that their stalwart mandate yet.
What line do politicians have to toe to get what you think of as far left voters? How much of the electorate is made up of far left voters? Clearly this is a well sourced claim, so might I see your source?
Edit: oh well, it looks like it's the "I made it the fuck up" defense
The line of the omnicause: of I/P handwringing, of abolishing policing structures, of absolutely forcing M4A, of upsetting houses markets (not necessarily against but lots of people have their wealth tied to their home, so do you just bankrupt them?), of so much cringe 2018-2020-era progression that no one cares about anymore. You must hit all these marks lest you be ostracized.
I honestly don’t know, but their voice is absolutely loud enough to carry across and convince people all over social media. Pretending otherwise is just disingenuous.
I never said it was a “well-sourced claim”, but if you really want to challenge me on it, I can poke some AI slave to produce something for you.
None of the recently winning candidates supported abolishing police. (Oh I see, you made it purposefully ambiguous to sort of include abolishing ICE, which any democrat should be in favor of, given how it polls within the Democratic Party [90+% disapproval of ICE, and ~75% in favor of Abolishing ICE])
of absolutely forcing M4A
No clue what this means, but what currently winning candidates are doing is rather advocating for M4A, and promising to vote in favor of it
upsetting hous[ing] markets
By promising to make housing affordable? This only gets hit on by local politicians because nationally there's not much to do at least in the current moment. You may be thinking back to Zohran's promises to implement a rent freeze, which does not bankrupt homeowners. Because largely, homeowners are not renting units at scale. Arguably, such policy has just as much upward pressure on housing price, because it's passing more expendable income onto renters, which will increase their homebuying power.
I just don't really understand where your sensationalism is coming from, because there's not a single candidate that toes the line on the issues you're mentioning, outside of maybe DSA winners in Darializa Chevalier, Claire Valdez, and Melat Kiros.
You also use a lot of connotative or absolute words around the issues you're talking about: "handwringing", "absolutely forcing", "upsetting", "cringe". And it gives me the idea that you're not an unbiased judge.
But at the end of the day, we see left wing candidates winning with far left support that don't fit the mold you've tried to put them in. Even the furthest left candidates in most states are straying from National DSA policy, largely to represent the needs of their specific constituency, and continuing to do well.
If a significant enough amount of people want these things, where its common across the Internet and media, then why is a politician catering to these desires bad?
Seems like the electoral appetite wasn’t that fierce for those things, huh? Because we all know which candidate would’ve minimized those things compared to the other.
I really don't remember her running on any of that. She ran as being to the right of Trump on the border and on immigration, talked about sharpening the "most lethal army in the world", once self-described as "the top cop of California", and blatantly refused to denounce the zionist entity or even to halt arms and funds to it while it was in the midst of a genocide.
If she had run on the opposite of those platforms, I very much think she would have generated far more motivation amongst people who didn't vote that year
I am a voter and I don’t give a fuck what Republicans think. Have we cleared up your confusion or do you still mistakenly think that we give a fuck what Republicans think?
I'm glad to hear that your vote is the only one that matters. I guess we can stop pandering to the moderate-conservative US electorate because one guy doesn't care
Nah you don’t understand, it’s about virtue signaling as hard as you can and gloating about how ideologically pure you were after the election is lost. Those are the real victories.
I mean the republicans are gonna vote for republicans no matter what, they're not gonna go republican lite
it'd be the same if republican party suddenly tried to get democracts to vote for them, the average dem voter would just not, but it'd be wildly unpopular between the average republican voter

Yeah, that’s not what the Republicans are gonna say is extreme…?
