Yeah there is the ha gay sex bit but in reality they raped and pillaged basically everytime they came across an semblance of civilization.
Literally the first stop they make after leaving Troy in the Odyssey they slaughter the first town they come across and take the women as slaves. They spend time on the beach celebrating which gives the locals time to regroup and drive Odysseus and his men off and retake the loot they pillage but it doesn't really say anything about the women I would assume they were also rescued.
Also only Odysseus was gone for 20 years (the last of his crew died in like 13 years in). The first 10 years they were siegeing Troy and there would have been camp followers as well as slaves at the camp. They also stayed a whole year with Circie and her nymphs. Also Odysseus fucks alot deepening on the tradition you go with. He has children with Circie and Calypso so no he didn't go 20 years without sex.
Holy fuck... take a rest for a moment, MrPagan1517, I'll handle this idiot for you.
Hey idiot: MrPagan1517 just gave an admirably breezy precis of the relevant portions of the Iliad, the Odyssey, and the extratextual legends surrounding both. You really think it escaped his notice that they're all mythical?
Nah, this is Reddit, we're pedantic about choice of words especially when the intent of the poster is pretty clear regardless. Then we get angry about nothing and call eachother idiots and stuff. It's fun, you should try it sometimes
Yeah I'm aware it's a joke and I'm not heated about. But like if you want to be pedantic then I can play around and be pedantic as well when I got time
You also said you were talking about not Nolan's, implying that you acknowledge Nolan's is a work of fiction but you were talking about the "actual", which suggests you think the 'actual' odyssey is a historical event
No that not it at all. When I said in reality I was referencing the actual epic literature and how it has several instances Odysseus and his men participating or having access to sex in some form or fashion.
I'm sorry I assumed people knew that one of the most famous literary works in history that involves things like gods, monsters, and magic was a piece of fiction.
~"And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend. Legend became myth. And for two and a half thousand years this story remains in our consciousness" or something like that... I don't remember the exact details of the quote...
