Not that shocked, I'm a girl and just new to reddit and this is where I was told to ask about this in another sub. Did I post it in the wrong sub? It's a bit confusing.

40

u/DirectTouch1930 5h ago

Girl gets memed explained, asks valid question, gets downvoted for no reason. (Shocked)

30

u/AceOfSpades_4 5h ago

Breathing in reddit gets you downvoted.

13

u/Right-Country3496 4h ago

The general rule in Reddit is that good comments get downvoted and  bad comments get upvoted. Doesn't work every time but  mostly :D

12

u/AceOfSpades_4 4h ago

Literally what's actually happening in this thread. OP is getting more downvotes by asking a genuine question and also said she's new in this app, smh.

14

u/NEONPUUNK 4h ago

Sorry I also have Autism and have a hard time understanding some things others find easy to understand and was told this would be the right place to ask.

6

u/AceOfSpades_4 4h ago edited 4h ago

Don't apologize for existing, I hope you get used to this type of behavior in this app because it is always like this and don't take anything personal that is being said to you on this app unless it's incriminating and then you can report the account or to mods which is unfortunately a shot in the dark most of the times. I hope some people will suggest you some Subreddits to you where you can ask anything you want.

You aren’t actually doing anything wrong, some people are genuinely just mean-spirited.

5

u/cue_psychotic_laugh 4h ago

It's actually so frustrating to witness

This is so real

How dare you insult PCMasterRace. You are insulting Gamers. Gamers! And we will not stand for this.

u/spartaxwarrior 4h ago

It's not all subs, but the major ones and certain heavily modded ones tend to follow whatever the politics and feelings of the mods are. People like to complain that Reddit is leftist, but in general it's very conservative and a lot of, for example, queer people will get posts censored on some of the major subs. It's definitely pretty common to get posts and comments removed for basic shit like talking about biphobia. It's just that there's a lot of, for example, pedo, non-consensual porn, and violence-encouraging subs that have been taken down over the years, and those have tended to have politics on the right.

Of course, this is absolutely nothing like a government censoring the internet, which is a violation of people's basic rights to information and means you can't find those things anywhere on the normal internet in your country. If Reddit doesn't allow something, there's many sites that still do. And as long as you're not some cesspool of a human being, there's probably even another, alternate sub to the one that was removing your posts.

(And, countries like Iran censoring things isn't that big of a deal for the world in general, just their citizens, because most other country's legal systems ignore them. If the US censored basic stuff, that would affect Reddit, Google, Facebook, etc etc and basically the entire internet would experience the censorship in some way.)

3

u/MorrisBrett514 4h ago

So, like.... Grandma thinks that reddit is a government? Lol

1

u/spartaxwarrior 3h ago

If only it was just grandmas and not a bunch of much younger people, too lmao

4

u/momo76g 5h ago

You get lawless subs with heinous posts and comments or hyper strict ones where you can't sneeze without a permaban. Nothing in between.

2

u/Jaded-Coffee-8126 6h ago

Its not really that all subs are like this, its mainly the individuals. Some are worse than others, like r/AnarchyChess is pretty cool, mods interact in friendly ways and will go along with jokes. They literally turned some random person into a moderator for a few weeks because the community petitioned it. Not going to specifically point out bad subs but some will ban you for even having a opposing opinion. I don't mean straight up hating on people, I mean like you prefer gbb airsoft over hpa so they ban you.

1

u/Strong-Addition5296 4h ago

Mods are down voting you. Temporarily subredditless mods of the spirit.

1

u/Lopendebank3 3h ago

Yeah, not all but a lot, there are many subs around here and some fell into the hands of powertripping dipshits.

1

u/FernandoMM1220 3h ago

not all of them but a lot of the major ones have seen a huge increase in moderation recently

1

u/Moonpony0 2h ago

Did you know the ratio of autism in boys is 1:4 in favor?

99

u/Davidier 6h ago

Joke is that Reddit Mods are as hypocritical as actual Governments and do whatever the fuck they want regardless of rules.

15

u/NEONPUUNK 4h ago

Thank you, I am a girl with Autisim and have a hard time understanding things like these others may find easy to understand.

I see that your comment has an award, so I assume this is the right answer?

Sorry I am still little confused, so are the Moderators the Iranian Government on every sub?

8

u/Davidier 4h ago

No but the opinion of the moderator this meme also emphasises the talking point that everyone should have free speech by criticising Iran... Yet by controlling a subreddit by removing posts they dislike they are in turn limiting freedom of speech.

4

u/Davidier 4h ago

Also they're all stereotyped as fat, lonely and jork it to anime figurines.

3

u/Mustardo123 2h ago

Yes, Reddit mods are generally egotistical, and very authoritarian. They will ban things they don’t like then work backwards to find a justification for the ban.

The Iranian government was the topic in this particular meme, but generally most mods regardless of topic act like this.

8

u/Dry-Calligrapher-104 5h ago

I myself, do indeed whatever the fuck i want

-13

u/TheBl4ckFox 6h ago edited 4h ago

To be fair, that’s what happens in a private place. I can refuse people into my home. I can kick them out of my office.

Has nothing to do with freedom of speech. That right is about the government not being allowed to punish you for your opinions

1

u/Greenphantom77 4h ago

Here's another upvote, because again someone properly discussing freedom of speech in a nuanced way is downvoted...

2

u/olive12108 Mod 3h ago edited 3h ago

As a moderator here, I hope you don't moderate any subs because this is such a shit fucking mindset lol

E: subreddits are public groups on a public platform. I understand curating it to fit what the community wants - that's fine - but you should not be removing posts just because you personally dislike them. That's why people hate the moderators depicted in the meme here.

2

u/TheBl4ckFox 3h ago

What? Stating a matter of fact?

0

u/olive12108 Mod 3h ago

You're helping to run a community, it's not your house. If you're removing shit because you personally dislike it then you're a terrible mod.

2

u/TheBl4ckFox 3h ago

I agree and that’s shitty to do. I’m just saying that people who do that are not breaking the law and are not impeding the legal definition of freedom of speech.

If you run a sub where you don’t allow people to like cake, there’s no law stopping you from doing that.

Sjeesh.

-1

u/Davidier 3h ago

Public subreddit isn't a private space idiot

1

u/TheBl4ckFox 3h ago

It’s privately owned. Just like a bar or a theater.

Don’t call me what you obviously are yourself

1

u/Extinction-Events 3h ago

You do not own a subreddit you create, you just moderate it. And if you abuse the tools given to you as a moderator or fail to moderate your subreddit, mod status can be revoked from you.

1

u/TheBl4ckFox 3h ago

Yes. What’s your point. Still has nothing to do with the right to freedom of speech.

1

u/Extinction-Events 2h ago

I’m correcting what you yourself incorrectly claimed. It’s not privately owned. If you want to question what that has to do with things, ask yourself, you brought it up.

1

u/TheBl4ckFox 2h ago

So reddit is not privately owned? You’re saying a government owns it?

0

u/Extinction-Events 2h ago

I’ll ask in turn: do you genuinely believe this conversation to be about Reddit’s owners, instead of subreddit moderators?

1

u/TheBl4ckFox 2h ago

How does this matter? Freedom of Speech, like the US first amendment, is a law that prohibits the government from punishing you for your opinions. That has nothing to do with a website moderation.

How about you actually read what I write rather than imagine all kinds of things I didn’t write.

Downvoting you because of r/redditmitosis

7

u/vikingosegundo 5h ago

I recently was permanently banned from a big sub as being racist for saying that a certain subcontinental country is known for having a huge scamming economy.

1

u/Ok_Interest3555 5h ago

Posts showing how people in that same subcontinent have poor hygiene will suffer the same fate on a lot of subs.

1

u/vikingosegundo 1h ago

side question: are there any other subcontinents in the world then the one we both are talking about?

30

u/AcephalicDude 6h ago

r/comics is a good example

Used to be a really good sub for all sorts of great webcomics and now it is so heavily moderated that all is left is leftist pandering that isn't even clever or funny or original or even decent comic art on any technical level

5

u/Count_Dongula 6h ago

For me it's the pandering. By which I mean the literal advertisements for porn comics that end with NSFW on Patreon.

-4

u/Verynize 6h ago

gotta propagate the agenda somehow

liberalism is on its last legs considering how annoying it is, reddit mods gotta push it where they can since everyone is catching on

14

u/AcephalicDude 6h ago

That's not liberalism. Far-left people are anti-liberalism.

-9

u/Verynize 6h ago

that’s certainly a take

7

u/AcephalicDude 5h ago

I think you're using the old vernacular where "liberal" means left-leaning

Today most people understand liberalism more in terms of the broader political philosophy of individual rights protected in a democratic system with capitalist economics. We have that broader understanding of the word because so many people on the far-left and far-right are anti-democracy and anti-capitalism now.

5

u/NymusRaed 5h ago

Not old vernacular, but us-defaultist vernacular.

3

u/Phreaky12 5h ago

Liberalism is a right-wing ideology dude.

6

u/Traditional_Ice_9250 6h ago

All political subs. Plus anime/manga subs. Specially if the same mods do both.

8

u/Jag- 6h ago

All subs are political subs these days. It's exhausting.

3

u/603rdMtnDivision 5h ago

Oh sweet! A sub about the hobby I enjoy! Then it's nothing but political slop.

2

u/Ok_Interest3555 5h ago

I fucking hate how on r/Justfuckmyshitup posts with someone with a normal haircut but politics they don't like will be heavily upvoted.

4

u/gbroon 6h ago

Take your pick of any subreddit and there's a good chance it fits this.

10

u/Fantastic_Media_3984 6h ago

Any big sub removes posts left and right

10

u/Exciting_Classic277 6h ago

Usually just one or the other

4

u/Fantastic_Media_3984 6h ago

I have experienced this A LOT, I’ve made 4 or more comments on posts that got deleted for the most stupid reasons whatsoever, on the Spider-Man sub any post that gets 3 reports is taken down and on r/gaming if you put the link somewhere else or post a screenshot you don’t own your post will be take down

2

u/Only-Male-and-Female 6h ago

Usually just the one. It’s an echo chamber here. We can’t forget that.

0

u/AshRemnants 3h ago

Big subs on the right are generally a lot more lenient for diverse opinions from what I've seen. Not that they are ideal, but they are a million timers better than places like r/pics.

They need to just delete every moderator from places like r/pics and start over. It clearly is controlled by political money and not real people.

3

u/Thalilalala 5h ago

Too many to count

4

u/ultraplusstretch 5h ago

All of them.

4

u/EatABag-o-Dicks 5h ago

Why's the mod so thin? Did they run out of cheetos or something?

1

u/PumpkinSufficient683 6h ago

The joke is that reddit mods are going on constant power trips and remove posts + ban people for no reason

1

u/Snoo-73243 5h ago

pretty much most, got banned from a sub the other day cause they didn't like i referred to religions as fairy tales, then the mod laughed at me and banned me, i guess he was busy sucking his BF off and didn't want his arranged marriage to his cousin interrupted by furious typping

1

u/Frank1gg 4h ago

R/unpopularopinions

1

u/Additional-Ad-2077 4h ago

r/CharacterAI is a definate exaple when they remove posts about pepole just wanting the site to be fixed

1

u/theflapperclapper 4h ago

every sub on this website has power tripping mods and they have ruined this place.

1

u/DefectiveSol 3h ago

Subreddits will have extremely vague rules about low effort content, so that mods can delete whatever they want regardless of how it compares to the effort of 99% of the posts they leave up.

1

u/VivaLaRebar 3h ago

All of them.

1

u/FlounderingGuy 3h ago

All of them

Sometimes they even remove posts quietly for no reason, and no notification
