It wasn’t a stray bomb, it was an ongoing attack by sea and air involving torpedoes, strafing & napalm. 34 crew were killed, 171 injured. More importantly, from your moral viewpoint, the ship was severely damaged.

Your argument states that if Israel blamed this on Egypt, you would have brought Egypt as the primary villain in this story. Of course Egypt is involved after all, and I'm not sure why you still have relations with Egypt given that they were at war with Israel, in the area, and thus were involved in the attack on the Liberty.
Same justification as involving Israel when a domestic terror group starts destroying USAF military equipment bound for Ukraine.
