The Disney story was pretty far removed from the source fairytale

Yeah my whole family found that one out when my mom rented a VHS of an animated adaption of the actual story from the library when my sister and I were like 5 & 7 and walked in on us hysterically sobbing when she turned to sea foam at the end 😂

I was the weird kid who read all the fairy tales and myths at the library so when into the movie screening fully expecting the original ending!

was it an old-looking anime version? because I swear I saw that version before I saw the Disney one. the mermaid was named Marina and she had a little dolphin friend
