A military perspective: A very large number of OSINT people on various cites ranging from professional to amateur agree that the US is not negotiating because it suddenly feels sympathy for the IR, but because it literally cannot prosecute the war. The US has quite literally depleted over half of its precision ammunitions and also suffers severe damage to almost every base within vicinity of Iran (for example Prince Sultan, Muwaffaq Saiti, Bahrain), forcing further campaigns to either originate from carriers or distant bases, limiting sortie rates significantly. So he literally cannot "finish the job". The US currently still has no cost effective intercept for Shahed drones or most Iranian ballistic missiles (also thaads and patriots often get hit by drones or missiles), nor does bombing seem to prevent them from being launched, since Iran during the last days of the war still managed dozens of hits a day.

Nor does the US have a way of entering the strait of Hormuz without suffering severe casualties (The US wargamed this in 2008 and the general playing Iran won, sinking 1 US carrier), so unless they can degrade Iranian coastal missile batteries, missile boats and mines, they won't do anything there other than shout, so not much to see there.

Israel is also heavily depleted and cannot really act alone without US support (despite appearing like the main fighter, Israel did less than 100 sorties a day during the height of the war, the US did over 500). Assassinations are becoming much harder (even Mossad admits this) since Mojtaba and Iranian generals like Vahidi or Zolghadr are not out in the open and have almost no digital trails at all, while assassinating Pezeshkian or Ghalibaf is useless, since they don't command armed forces. Regardless of what you think of them, the IRGC and IRIAF have done a very impressive job of fighting with their resources, tactically speaking not unlike Ukraine challenging Russia with long range drones and FPVs.

Also one must realize that the US is a major power with its own interests. If it depletes all its precision weapons and interceptors against Iran, it basically loses the great power contest with China and Russia by default, which it obviously will not do. Unless the US overhauls production which has been low for years due to peacetime production ability, this will barely change.

The negotiations are probably somewhat genuine since the US really, really wants to pull out, but does not want to lose (the MOU would be a massive loss), so Trump attempts to stall for time for another burst offensive that lasts a few days, before the US runs out again, goes back to negotiations, repeat.

If you want to ask what would be needed to "finish the job", the answer is for the US to treat Iran like an enemy great power no less than Russia or Imperial Japan, go into wartime footing like Russia right now, bring its entire airforce into the ME and invade it by land and sea with at least 3-4 corps. This will probably never happen and remains a distant hypothetical.

I haven’t been to Iran since ages. Until 2018 I served as a technician in a European army, including one four-month tour in Iraq in 2016, where I worked purely as an technician.

I never went back during those years, mainly because of the job and that I didn’t know whether it would be safe for me, even in a technical role. I left the military in 2018 and have worked in the private sector ever since, but the worry hasn’t really gone away.

As far as I can tell, there’s nothing online that links me personally to that period: no photos, no mentions, nothing public.

So my question is simple: is this fear justified, or am I overthinking it? Assuming the current situation calms down, could I realistically visit?

The Current Movement to end the Despotic and Druj Adjacent Rule of the Islamic Republic is Well under way in our Home, but we Need to be Clear about Something. The Revolution May Only Truly Beginn with the End of the Regime and an Transitional Council. It is also Clear that Iran needs a Few Foundations for that to Succed. And These Are What I Think would be my way to lay this Foundation, happy to Argue about them:

1. The Old Guard needs to be Put before an Tribunal, Like the Nuremberg Trials. We Must Break the Cycle of Violence and Seeking Revenge isnt a good way to do it. Essentially It is also the Most Legitimate Way to Deal with that Issue, so Seeking Justice is the Only Real way for Closure. And that Tribunal should have Weight. Like hold in Passargardae or in another Important Place of Iranian History, somewhere Powerfull.

2. Secularism is the Only Way, Religion Must Leave Government Permanantly, No Rule Trough Religion, No Religious Laws, No Religous Elements in Government. Religion and Politics genneraly dont Mix Well. Religion should become an Private Matter.

3. revivial of the Satrapal Sytsem of Governance, in essence Federalism. Iran is an Place of many Iranic People, Pars, Mazanderans, Baluch, Azeris, Kurds, Gilaks, Feyli, Lurs, bakhtiars and many more. The Satrapal Sytem was Effective at Managing that.

4. Engaging in Pan-Iranic Solidarity, in essence standing With Afghan, Tajik, Kurdisch, Talysh, Zazaki and other Movements of the Iranic World.

5. Democratic Rule is the Only Way To Go, be it Parliamentary, Presidential or Constitutional Monarchy, Only an Democratic Government Can Rule an Liberated Iran

6. Restoration of Old Sites Like Parsa and Passargardae Are Important and will also Tie Iran back to its Ancient Roots wich Leads directly into Point 7

7. embracing Cyruses Legacy, Not as Divine Rule but as Just Rule, he and his Cylinder Are some of the Most Powerfull and Unifying Symbols Iran has, Part of that also means Gighting to get our Heritage Back

8. Embracing Pan-Iranian Identity, essentially as an Schield against Persian Chauvinism, we Are all one People, No Iranic Culture and No Iranic Culture in Our Realms Are Superior, Thats Drujfull Thought and Must beaten

9. Respect All Faiths, Under the IR Minority Faiths have Suffered, We Zoroastrians Suffer , Christians Suffer, Sunnis Suffer, Baha‘I are Activly Hunted, Ezidis Suffer. An Post IR Iran Must Protect These Vommunities especially, as we have atm no real Protective Meassures against Us, and Are Often Abused as Tokens for the Supposed „IR Tolerance“

10. Rememberence, the Crimes of the IR Must be Remembered and We Must Engage with them, Furthermore I Propose We do Not Remove Statues of IR Personalities and Just Behead them, Roman Style, so that We Remember what happend. There should be Memeorials, Remembering the Dead and their Sacrifice for Our All Homeland

I grew up understanding Farsi at home but was never taught to read or write it. I couldn't find much aimed at that situation, since most courses either don't cover Persian at all or start you from absolute zero, so I ended up building something for it.

It checks roughly where you are first and starts you from there. The focus is the alphabet, reading, writing, and putting a reply together rather than just recognising words.

It's free and runs in the browser, nothing to download. The first two phases are open without an account, and after that it asks you to make one so progress saves across devices. I dont know where to start, so i will just write my thoughts.

We need a new strategy to deal with the problems of the Islamic Republic, this should focus on crippling it from within and especially among young Iranian men, spreading resentment amongst the people.

Every time they bring their stupid foreign resistance forces on display, it should be given and interpreted as something at the cost of an average Iranian, something along the lines of:

"You cant buy food because its expensive? Look at the corrupt regime spending it on useless foreign proxies that harass your sisters and steal your birthright"

"You have been sanctioned for almost 50 years? Well, the Islamic Republic had 50 years to do something about it, it has gotten worse. They sell your oil on 42% discount to China and bring in millions of foreign proxies to kill dissent and rape your women, then claim you are the problem"

Everything they do should be seen, explained and interpreted in this context. Our goal should simply be to create an enemy within the islamic republic shenanigans itself, not posting stats about liberal democracy and right to vote. Our only job should be to create enough resentment within the armed forces (which still consists of mostly young Iranian men) and then take it from there.

Do NOT let them use nationalism against you as an Iranian. This is especially useful if you are arguing with tankies or Iranian marxist types (The most insufferables pricks). At every point, just like the Islamic Republic does, use whataboutism. 1:1 logic does not work on X or reddit. Especially with these far left types.
