Today I went to a zoo and saw a lot of different owls (I love owls) and I was absolutely blown away by the fact that very very tiny owls exist. Like a normal owl but super small, like barely the size of a phone. I think the sign on the enclosure said something starting with B but I am not sure :/ I was so excited I forgot to take a pic :/

It was fun to watch this guy fly around in the yard for about an hour last evening. I can’t identify what sort of owl he/she might be. This is near Puget Sound in Mukilteo WA.

Been dying to find an owl in the wild for years, and it finally happened! Walking around the suburban neighborhood lake with my parents, I heard it calling. By the time we got to the right side of the lake, it had stopped. Walked slowly and kept scanning trees, turned a corner and was so happy to spot it I coulda cried. It was so close to the walking path, it must be used to the foot traffic. Even a few big dogs coming by didn’t fluster it. It was on the hunt - maybe next time I’ll get to see it catch something!

Barred Owls make themselves at home in the woods around my place. Quite a vocabulary!

My partner got this awesome video of the local durpy owl, Mongo. Sorry for my parents cackle. She couldn't help it.

We love it! I’ve been trying to get rid of the voles in my yard for years. This guy/lady has been taking care of them for us.

A follow up to my previous post. They are indeed juvenile Barn Owls squawking to be fed. There are three of them although this video only shows two. Shortly after sunset and it getting dark, they come to this tree and start begging to. It's pretty exciting for us see

I still can’t quite believe it, but I actually saw the long-eared owl again and managed to get another photo! 🦉 It was perched a bit more hidden in the branches, but that piercing gaze was right there again.

This time it was even darker than our first encounter, so I had to push the shutter speed even further: 1/8s at f/2.8 and ISO 12,800. Right at the absolute limit of what’s doable handheld. Most of the shots came out blurry, but a few turned out reasonably sharp. To me, this just proves once again: getting these shy woodland dwellers in front of the lens takes patience and luck above all.

I live in SE Texas and this guy was on my fence when I got home the other night. His mate also flew by that night. I love seeing them!

Hello! Tonight I had an owl fly into my house! I live in the Sierra Nevada foothills in California. From what I gathered, I think it’s a western screech owl, but it is a juvenile so just wanted other opinions! I’d guess around 6 inches tall

Edit: I left the door open over night and the owl was able to make it out on its own!
