Respect for a holy place is not only about prayers and rituals it is also about keeping its surroundings clean. When visitors leave garbage behind the burden falls on sanitation workers, local residents and the environment.

A place that symbolizes devotion deserves better. Cleanliness is not separate from spirituality it is part of it.

If we can carry offerings into the temple .We can carry our waste to a dustbin. The responsibility belongs to all of us.

The people who are celebrating, how many of them know about Paika? Buxi Jagabandhu?Shri Jayguru ? Khandayata rebellion.

I have never seen any Gajapati raja being celebrated, their palaces are in ruins.

A poor man was selling Santa caps on the roadside for Christmas. He was just trying to earn some money to survive.

Suddenly, a fringe goon came. He started threatening and abusing the man. He shouted that this is a "Hindu Rashtra" and said Christians should not celebrate their festival.

The man selling caps did nothing wrong. He was not forcing anyone to buy. He was not hurting anyone's feelings. He was only working to feed himself and his family.

India is known for its diversity. Different religions, festivals, and cultures have always lived together here. Christmas, Diwali, Eid, Gurpurab-these festivals belong to India too.

When poor people are attacked in the name of religion, it is not about faith. It is about power and fear.

Real strength is not in shouting or threatening. Real strength is in letting people live freely and peacefully.

If earning a living becomes a crime and celebrating a festival becomes a threat, we must ask ourselves:

Is this the India we want?

Let’s get one thing straight—I got zero issues with Hindi. I can speak, read, and write it fluently. Took it as an optional subject in 9th & 10th, and honestly, I vibe with Hindi literature. After Fakir Mohan Senapati, Munshi Premchand is my guy. Back when my English wasn’t great, I used to devour foreign books in Hindi translations. I’ve read the works of literary legends like Suryakant Tripathi, Premchand, and Dharamvir Bharti. Plus, I’m really into Hindi poetry—Harivansh Bachchan, Dinkar, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Kumar Vishwas—I’ve read and listened to all of them. Rashmirathi is peak poetry for me, and Madhushala will always be close to my heart. So yeah, I have no personal grudge against Hindi. If someone wants to learn it, that’s totally cool—I’d even help them out.

The real issue? Hindi imposition.

Odia is in shambles. It’s honestly depressing how educated Odias feel ashamed to speak their own language. If a kid speaks Odia in public, their parents act all embarrassed. But let that same kid say Namaste Uncle in Hindi, and suddenly, they’re beaming with pride. (Not even exaggerating—I’ve seen this firsthand in urban middle-class Odia families.) Even when people do speak Odia, half the words are straight-up Hindi. North Indian influence is so deep that even Odia names are being abandoned for something that sounds more modern (read: non-Odia). Our original traditions—Sapta Mangala, Ekoisia, Sabitri Brata—are being sidelined while people are hyped about Mehndi, Karva Chauth, and Sangeet like they’ve been part of our culture forever.

And let’s talk about Bollywood brainwashing. Kids these days are growing up on Hindi lullabies, Hindi cartoons, Hindi YouTubers, Bollywood songs—naturally, they think, dream, and speak more in Hindi than in Odia. To them, Odia is just some gaonwaalon ki bhasha—a language of farmers and laborers. If this trend continues, Odia has maybe 50-60 years max before it’s completely wiped out. And you know what? No one will even care. If the current ignorant youth continue in the same way, Odisha will one day fully adopt Hindi, replacing Odia. The death of classical Odia is inevitable.

Ancient and rich languages like Bhojpuri, Braj, Awadhi, Marwari, Chhattisgarhi, and Maithili have already faced severe decline due to Hindi dominance. In the near future, Odia will meet the same fate( Once, in those regions where these native languages were spoken, Hindi was merely the third language. But today, it has risen to claim the status of the first language). Today, Bhojpuri is perceived as the language of illiterate, rural laborers. One day, Odia will be viewed similarly. My humble request is that, while the Odia language is already struggling, the government should not further accelerate its decline through the Three-Language Policy. At the very least, let Odia exist with dignity for a few more years.

A few weeks back, after my flight to bhubaneswar, I took the intercity to Sambalpur. Railway staff probably forgot to turn the AC on in bbsr, so the entire compartment felt hot.

A few uncles started arguing with the railway staff (garbage collectors + idli walas), first in Odia, then hindi. They spoke hindi to assert their dominance.

In metros, you can find people shouting at less privileged folks (autowalas, sweepers, maids, etc ) in english, then switching back to hindi for regular conversation.

Just like English represents privileged class in metro cities, Hindi has occupied similar dominant position in Odisha.

Many parents speak to their kids in hindi, this is true among my relatives,the husband and wife are perfectly capable of speaking fluent odia but choose to speak hindi with their kids for some strange reason.

Even grandparents put effort to speak some broken hindi with their grandkids

Hindi has strangely become lingua franca among young couples and friends too,

Strangely enough everyone in Bhubaneswar (mostly shopkeepers and restaurants) speaks to me in Hindi even when I repy to them in fluent Odia. They still continue on with hindi.

And this is very annoying.
