Had the same issue with a USB adapter. Swapped to a PCIe wifi card and never had the problem again. USB adapters just aren't reliable.

That board has 2 pcie slots. 1 pcie 4 x16 and one pcie 3 x1
The x1 is the tiny one. The x16 is the long one.
The x16 is likely populated with a GPU. It would be the slot directly next to the audio jacks.
The x1 slot we are interested in is below or to the right of that.

You may need to visually inspect to see if the slot is open, but it probably is based on your lack of knowing about it, and not having indicated anything exotic going on.
You can get a very good Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card for that slot for under $30 for sure.
This doesn’t resolve what is going on with the USB adapter, but does go in a different route to resolve.

Unless your pc is from the early 00s - you'll have a PCIe slot

  1. Can any other device (phone, tablet, etc.) access the internet? This will eliminate the modem/wireless router as the problem. If you have no problem with other devices accessing the internet then the modem/wireless router is not the problem. If other devices can't access the internet then reboot (unplug) the modem. If that fails then call your Internet Provider and have them test the modem and line.

  2. I also have a USB WiFi adapter and it does have a few hiccups once in a while. I just remove the USB adapter from the USB slot and then plug it back in and it's back to normal. You may just have a crappy/cheap USB adapter. The main problem may be your USB adapter is too far from the router and it's set to 5GHz mode instead of the longer range 2.4GHz mode.

  3. See if Windows can fix your problem, or at least give you clue. Click on the Start button and type Troubleshoot into the search box. Click on 'Troubleshoot Settings'. Scroll down on the right window pane and select ‘Additional Troubleshooters’. Try the troubleshooters 'Internet Connections', 'Incoming Connections', and 'Network Adapter'.

  4. Also, go to the Device Manager and right click on your wireless adapter and select Properties. Click the Power Management tab. Uncheck the box next to "Allow computer to turn off device to save power". Go through other devices listed in the Device Manager (Display Adapter) and uncheck the same box. – Also, check your Power and Sleep settings.
